36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2022

While driving a very loud noise was coming from the rear end of SUV.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while reversing into a parking space, she shifted into drive(d) and depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal and shifted into drive(d) again and the vehicle then responded. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving on the highway. The contact had shifted into drive(d) however, the transmission shifted into drive two(d2) inadvertently. The contact veered to the side of the road and shifted into drive(d). The contact was able to continue driving. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v413000 (power train) which she associated with the failure. However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2021

Driving on the interstate at 60 miles an hour the vehicle randomly lost all propulsion and died, which caused an immediate quick slowdown and almost caused a 4 car/semi pileup. Causing me to hit the ditch to avoid being killed by a semi. Vehicle no longer starts. Appears to be a faulty flexplate that caused engine and transmission issues to which Ford has been no help. Ford has only recalled the 2017 Edge 2. 0 for the flexplate issues despite the same engine being used in the 2015-2018 models. Countless mentions of faulty flex plates in the model year range with the same engine but Ford refuses to address the mass issue.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2021

The flex plate on the vehicle has broken twice within 10000 miles. This is most certainly a manufacturer defect. The vehicle then runs rough, has a loss of power along with transmission shifting issues and can nearly die or not accelerate properly while driving, leading to several near collisions which could result serious injury or death.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2021

The engine flexplate cracked and disconnected from the torque converter. The vehicle lost the ability to move and left the vehicle stranded in the traffic lanes, nearly causing a major accident.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2021

Automobile was making a loud rattling noise. More noticeable at idle. The rattling noise then became loudest with start-up. Temperature gauge increased, but did not get to overheat as the vehicle was discontinued from driving. Towed to kenny ross Ford route 30 @ blackhill road adamsburg, PA 15611. Initial evaluation done by kenny ross Ford: cracked flexplate. Further evaluation is currently being done for further damage with pictures taken. This problem has been well made to Ford in 2015-2018 Ford Edge models with technical service bulletins issued. Class action lawsuits are being conducted. There is no reason for a cracked flexplate except a manufacturer error. Communication has been poor with kenny ross Ford, as phone calls are not answered or voicemail messages not returned. Thank you.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2021

My panoramic vista sunroof has cracked. The cracks are wavy and everywhere on the rear passenger side. This cracked at 52k miles I also have just replaced the flex plate that cost me $2,275 and 1 month without driving my vehicle. I have 68k miles on this vehicle currently. My transmission fluid was black when they replaced my flexplate as well.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2021

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was at the dealer for routine maintenance when they were advised that the power transfer unit failed causing the seal to fracture and leake transmission fluid. The dealer advised that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 86,836.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2021

The 2015 Ford Edge started to not blow hot air, and eventually the check engine light turned on. Took it to the dealer and they tell me it needed a new engine, but it was covered. The dealer explained that there is a bulletin tcb is # 19-2346. However, today I found out by the sales person that it not covered and I have to pay for it. This about $7500. I'm reading several post that this is a know issue. I don't know why there isn't a recall or more press on this issue.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2020

While driving my car I started to notice a rattling noise from underneath the vehicle. After about a week, I took the car to my local mechanic and he indicated that my car needed a new water pump, which he repaired. This did not fix the rattling noise and he informed me that my car most likely had a cracked flexplate. Upon contacting Ford customer experience, they indicated that my car would have to be checked by an authorized Ford dealer to verify this issue. It was verfied by the dealer and they have quoted me a repair bill of $3,800 and that is only if the engine is not bad due to the cracked flexplate issue. Ford has not offered any assurance that this will not recur or assistance with the obvious manufacturers defect.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2020

I have what appears to be a coolant leak with any warning whatsoever I purchased the car used (one owner) 3 months ago.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2020

The flex plate/flywheel has now failed for the 3rd time in less than 2 years. This is confirmed by an authorized Ford dealership and still has no recall on this part that is clearly a manufacturer defect. The damaged flex plate has caused my 2015 Ford Edge to have a terrible rattling noise and causes concern for safety if this part where to break apart while driving causing the wheels or motor to lock up while in motion. Issue began while city driving.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

This is a re-occurrence of the issue reported as NHTSA complaint 11317068. On 09/01/2020, a distinct rattling suddenly occurred when driving the vehicle. Given that this is the exact sound that occurred six months earlier with the flexplate failure, I immediately drove to the dealer. (the first event ended in a catastrophic failure at highway speeds because the dealer could not diagnose the problem and did not know if anything was wrong so I kept driving the vehicle despite the rattling. ) this time I was able to safely drive to the dealer and the dealer replaced the flexplate under part warranty (with the vehicle at the dealer for repairs from 9/1/20 to 10/8/20). In my previous NHTSA complaint, I listed four other identical NHTSA complaints on the same model. In the intervening six months, I have found two more complaints of an identical nature - NHTSA ids (11327304 and 11320476). This is clearly a systemic issue with the potential for loss of control at highway speeds as has been documented. I urge a specific investigation of this mode of failure.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v469000 22v413000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic, power train). However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was/contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available and parts distribution disconnect.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2020

After stopping to park the car in a street parking spot (the vehicle was stationary), I placed the gear shifter in park, however the vehicle went into reverse. The shifter cable bushing degraded and fell off the cable which detached the cable from the transmission. I know that other Ford vehicles have the same issue, but there is no recall issued for Ford Edge vehicles even though they have the same problem. The dealership replaced the whole cable (claimed that the bushing is part of the cable) and charged me $700. The dealership invoice and a couple of pictures of the missing bushing are attached as a pdf document.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

The contact owned a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon parking the vehicle in the driveway and taking groceries inside her residence, his wife heard an abnormal clicking sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle started rolling down the driveway onto the street independently. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into the neighbor's vehicle that was parked in the driveway across the street, pushing the neighbor's vehicle into the garage where his neighbor was located. The contact's neighbor sustained back injuries and sought medical assistance. A police report was filed. The contact's vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that there was no open recall and it was not a known failure. The contact became aware of NHTSA campaign number: 22v413000 (power train), which he associated to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not available.

53 Power Train problem

Parts distribution disconnect.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

My 2015 forrd Edge has only 16,500 miles on it as I only use it on occasion. This week the powertrain symbol came on and a few minutes later the check engine light came on!! I was driving on the freeway when this occurred.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2020

The Ford Edge has a cracked flexplate and emits a rattling noise and Ford will not address the problem. A cracked flexplate should not happen, let alone at 50k. The vehicle now sounds like a diesel and puts the driver and others at risk. Should the flexplate fail, the resulting damages and injuries could be deadly. This happens are startup and when slowing down.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2020

While driving at highway speeds, the transmission will make a loud bang and it feels like you ran over an object on the road. The vehicle momentarily (up to 5 seconds) looses all acceleration. This has happened many times, but most concerning is when this happens while entering onto the highway and merging into traffic or passing on a 2 lane road within a passing zone and power is lost and there are oncoming vehicles. This has been reported to the local Ford dealership numerous times, but the same response is received each time, "unable to duplicate transmission problem). The first time this occurred was 02/26/2021 and has continued (25 incidence I have documented) to the most recent time 05/25/23.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2020

The flex plate (flywheel) cracked twice now, first time was at 62,000 miles and second time was at 81,000. My safety was at risk the first time due to the fact I had just entered the interstate and loss all power to the engine as my oil pan and crankshaft seals also gave way and all engine oil was drained out with no engine oil warning what-so-ever. This nearly caused a semi to rear end me as I limped over to the Edge of the road powerless. The wrench appeared earlier that morning denoting a transmission issue for the first time as I was driving to work, then at lunch time it died on the interstate with no warning indicators at all. The second time it cracked I was also driving 75mph on the interstate saw the wrench and heard a loud grinding noise and the engine would just rev up when I pressed the gas. I pulled over safely without issues, but the flex plate cracked again and took out the transmission this time. Both repairs were completed at a Ford dealership and neither repairs were warrantied or covered by Ford.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

Upon starting my vehicle this morning 10-11-19 a system indicator light came on related to the traction control. The stability control lights (2 lights) are on and stay on - they are not flashing. Not sure what to do?.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

I started my car and turned on to a busy street. My car then slowed to an almost immediate stop. I received an error message stating hill assist unavailable (I wasn't on a hill at all), then a wrench light appeared along with an engine light and airbag light turned on as well. I was unable to accelerate when pushing the petal. Meanwhile there is traffic behind me forced to move around my vehicle almost causing serious accidents.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

Vehicle installs after starting or.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2019

When accelerating from a stop light, the vehicle hesitates/stalls and then jerks as I try to accelerate again. This has happened several times.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2019

While driving down the street or highway, the vehicle is randomly shifting hard to change gears.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2018

Car was taken to liberty Ford in warrensville recently for an oil change. Told that the oil pan was cracked and oil was leaking. Needed repair. Indicated that the car was under warranty. So repair would be done free. No indication of problem until car was taken in to shop for oil change. Told it was a small leak when asked why I didn't notice it!.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2018

2015 Ford Edge transmission shifts extremely hard when changing acceleration rates from low to high. Some times you can hear the engine rev before it drops it into gear. This happens in both city and highway driving at all times of the year.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2018

I pulled into my garage, put the vehicle in park, & noticed the letters displayed behind the steering wheel still showed that I was in neutral even though my gear shift was in park. The gear shift would not budge from park even with my car on. I turned the car off & on a few times, but still no change. I could actually roll my car forward & backward by hand while in the garage while this was happening. I put my emergency brake on to avoid any further, unwanted movement. I called aaa to come tow my vehicle out of the garage & take to the local Ford dealership. They determined that the shifting cable had broke, & $350 later I got my car back. Thank goodness this happened in my garage, because if that had happened anywhere else I or someone else could've been injured or caused a wreck if the car had rolled had I not noticed the problem in time. The dealership had said that this was the 2nd Ford Edge that this exact problem had occurred with in the last month. Big concern!.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. While operating the vehicle, a rattling noise was heard from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the flex plate was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred approximately 40,000 miles later. Tallassee Ford (1618 gilmer Ave, tallasee, al) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,328.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2018

After driving the car under normal conditions for the first 40k miles it started to make rattling noises. Took it to the dealer and it had a broken flywheel. 18k miles later it has another broken flywheel.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

While driving the rmps all of the sudden increased rapidly (I had my foot on the accelerator traveling around 50 mpg) as the vehicle continued to slow. The vehicle then started to sputter like it was running out of gas (had a full tank). I pulled over then started out again. Then I realized it was the transmission. I reluctantly went into first, smoothed into 2nd then felt like it totally skipped 3rd before settling into 4th. I have 6 years. Traveling around 60-70 was fine. It was the lower gears when starting from a stop that was giving me issues. I need to advise you that this is a 2015 model with only 12,885 miles on it when 3rd and 5th gear dropped out of my transmission. This is what the licensed Ford mechanic advised me. I'm very upset because it's still under warranty and Ford will only fix the broken parts and not the whole transmission. Only 12,885 miles and I bought it used - I've only had it for 3 months at this point.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2017

I was driving 55 mph and car power dropped to coasting and I had to pull off the road. The oil indicator came on. I called triple a and then tried to reset the oil light to reset and the car started again with power. Cancelled triple a. Car was not reset after oil change. I could have been rear ended!! really scared me.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2017

Vehicle lost all forward driving power when merging into traffic on 3 lane major highway from on ramp during rush hour traffic. Wrench light came on and vehicle entered limp mode. Nearly crashed because of limp mode caused reduced steering and reduced speed to maximum of 10 mph on highway with 55 mph speed limit. No where to pull over on highway so drove vehicle in limp mode off next exit. After parking and re-starting, reverse not engaging and now slipping in and out of drive gears. Towed to dealer. Dealer unable to diagnose transmission problem. During diagnosis dealer performed cost analysis and decided to replace entire transmission. Vehicle at dealer service center for 30 days. After picking up "repaired" vehicle a loud exhaust note is now prevalent. Need to take vehicle back to dealer service department for further diagnosis.
