The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
Twice this weekend, when I parking on a steep driveway, I put the shift lever into the park position, I turned off the vehicle and began to exit the vehicle. When I released my foot pressure on the brake pedal, the Ford Edge began to roll backward. I had to reapply pressure to the brake pedal and then engage the emergency brake to stop the vehicle from rolling. . Read more...
I have a 2017 Ford Edge with a 2. 0 ecoboost motor that was recently diagnosed (by Ford) as needing a new engine due to coolant intrusion into cylinder #4. The car has only 57,000 miles and is said to have a known manufacturing defect that causes this. Fortunately I reported this issue to the dealer before it got too severe; however I've been told that the car can catch on fire due to overheating or stop altogether on the freeway because of this issue. From what I've also read Ford has numerous cars equipped with this engine and have thousands of complaints regarding it, though they refuse to do anything to remedy the situation. I therefore would like to report the situation to the NHTSA out of an abundance of caution for myself, family, and other motorists that could be impacted by this.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who retrieved a dtc code for a torque converter failure. The mechanic informed the contact of NHTSA campaign number: 18v390000 (power train) which the mechanic linked to the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Transmission developed a very hard first to second shift and drive to reverse sounded like the transmission had fallen out of the car. I have Fords blue oval warranty and my car has been at the dealer for 6 weeks now. I was only provided a loaner for 10 days.
Car started misfiring due to coolant intrusion in cylinder 2. Had to immediately pull over to side of highway during rush hour traffic. Car is just outside manufacturer power train warranty. This is a known issue by Ford, the dealer community, service contract providers and independent mechanics. We purchased this car used that was serviced at dealers to now find out that this engine has known issues and are subject to a $12k long block replacement. . Read more...
The engine has malfunctioned due to coolant leaking into the cylinder’s. This can cause the engine to stop running. The engine light did come on but was not sure why until I took it to the Ford dealer. The dealer said Ford will not pay to replace the engine which is 9,000. The power train has a 7 year 100,000 warranty.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle was sputtering and jerking. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she decelerated and drove to the residence. The contact stated that the failure recurred while her husband was driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was test-driven. The dealer diagnosed that the torque converter was falling apart inside the transmission, which was contaminating the transmission. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
Check engine light has been on and white smoke coming from exhaust and engine been in for recall repairs several times. Steering wheel feels unstable when driving suspension is unreliable. This is a very dangerous vehicle to be driving and needs to be recalled for these known issues.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard a rattling sound at the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that flex plate had cracked and needed to be replaced. The contact then stated that she received notice of the customer service satisfaction program: 22n122. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that vehicle mileage was not covered then advised to contact the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 131,636.
I recently bought a 2017 Ford Edge back may 2022, my flex plate broke at 121,000 miles and the manufacturer will not cover it after 120,000 at all. I see this is an issue with many of these Ford Edges. They are saying it’s a “customer satisfaction program” not a recall. I don’t understand why not, when it is in fact, a safety issue and the flex plate was a recall before back in 2018 for this same model vehicle. This caused my whole transmission to go due to this issue within an hour of hearing rattling then metal grinding and now it’s in a shop not drivable, I thankfully got home and put my car in park in my driveway and then my car wouldn’t move.
Engine and combustion chambers cylinder 2 and 3, yes it's available for inspection sudden overheat and engine failure on road can lead to a serious accidents, also with coolant being leaked in to the combustion chamber could lead to explosions or implosions with the pressure conditions, also there was lot of white, blue smoke outside which was unbreathable yes, coolant leakage to the combustion chamber is observed by a independent service center no, not at the moment, however this was observed in many 2015-2018 Ford Edge models according to the manufacturer and also said by the independent service center they appeared with the failure but not prior to the failure.
My 2007 Ford Edge / 2. 0 ecoboost engine model (with only 69,000+ miles) had a distinct unsettling shake upon starting, and would occur occasionally during regular driving - causing check engine light to appear. Ford dealership inspected and verified that "coolant leaked into the 3rd cylinder - causing a crack in the engine - and only remedy is a total engine replacement. " obviously now an unsafe vehicle to drive. Upon my research / lengthy investigation, I found hundreds of similar failures with this model (to include 2015-2018 Ford Edges with 2. 0 ecoboost engine). Models with this engine version will eventually fail - usually around the 70,000 mile average landmark (which is ironically slightly out of from Ford's 60,000 warranty coverage - rendering this "not covered" by Ford) - and Ford has apparently known this for years. Ford's choices / options offered to me (and upon reading, hundreds of others) center on my being responsible for paying for the replacement - making me responsible for the cost (quoted price from the dealer was around $8200. 00) on a vehicle with only 69,000+ miles on it - with a flawed engine design that Ford has been aware of. Was told (in similar if not exact terms) that they aren't responsible for the replacement cost because "there is no recall on this", and "you are out of warranty" (but by less than 10,000 miles). Or another option is "you can trade it in" (for substantially below what it used to worth). In addition to my being responsible for the cost, the Edge is now worth less than what it was, as if I resell it, I'll need to disclose the problem - and engine replacement. In summary, this is not only unacceptable on the surface, but morally reprehensible. A recall on this (and other similar models), making Ford responsible to costs regarding this well known engine flaw is the right course of action not on for myself, but for the (at least) hundreds with the same problem - and thousands that will eventually have the problem. Thank you.
Vehicle engine runs extremely rough and shakes the vehicle after starting the engine. White exhaust smoke is also observed and coolant levels are steadily dropping over time. A pungent unpleasant odor is present near the exhaust as well. Vehicle has been experiencing this issue since June 2022 and has progressively gotten worse. The check engine light was illuminated so a obd-ii code reader was utilized on July 2, 2022. The diagnostic codes p0300, p0301, p0302, p0303, p0316, p1026, and p1285 were found. I have reason to believe that it is related to the issues related to the technical service bulletin (TSB) 22-2229. I am concerned about safety regarding this issue. My immediate concern falls on the poisonous gases produced when the engine is burning coolant putting the driver and others near the vehicle at risk. In addition, the vehicle is unreliable and the issue may cause other parts of the engine to fail. I believe this is a Ford design flaw and they should be held responsible. A certified Ford dealership in colorado will be running diagnostic tests after it has been dropped off for an appointment scheduled on 7/10/2023 at 8:45am mst.
So the car has a code p0302 coolant is leaking in cylinder #2 which is causing the car to run rough and overheat because of coolant loss and from what I understand can eventually cause a engine fire I’ve taken it to a shop to find this out but it hasn’t been inspected by the manufacturer police or insurance representatives the check engine light has been intermittently coming on and going back off until one day it just stayed on.
Vehicle had the transmission flywheel (flexplate) crack and fail on 07/24/2020 which resulted in having the flywheel replaced at 86,191 miles for the cost of $1,588. 73. This resulted in a dangerous situation as it happened at night, on the highway in the mountains of GA. Vehicle again had the flywheel (flexplate) crack on 05/08/2023 at 128,515 miles and is being quoted $2,804. 67 for replacement and repair. On August 26, 2022 a customer satisfaction program 22n12 was issued by Ford for this problem. I never received a copy of this letter. Ford admits this is a problem, and my vehicle was included in this program and confirmed by VIN. The program covers 100% repairs up to 100,000 miles and 50% between 100,000-120,000 miles. My vehicle as over the 120,000 miles and I was told there would be no coverage for the repairs. My complaint is the fact I have paid for the first repairs, and had to pay for a hotel, meals and costs due to being stranded in GA as I was on a trip when it happened and the repairs took 4 days. The vehicle again has the same problem, and this time the quote is considerable higher, so much so it is not cost effective have it done. Ford needs to acknowledge the fact they have a problem at pay for the current repairs.
Vehicle had coolant intrusion issue. Vehicle is out of factory warranty and is not covered under extended warranty. Said vehicle was purchased used but within 5 months the head gasket failed (a known issue). Now purchaser is being quoted a $7200 repair bill on a known defective product.
A check engine light came on in our 2017 Ford Edge 2. 0l engine and the engine would shake when turning the car on. After taking it to the dealership, the car had two codes that came 0316 and 0302. After inspecting the car further, the diagnosis was that it was a blown head gasket. The car has 34,000 miles, and this issue should not happen this early. After some research, we learned that Ford Edge with our 2. 0l engine, years 2016-2018, keep having this engine issue. Our understanding is this is a known issue due to the block design and the head gasket seal not being sized large enough. This problem was reproduced by the dealership and the recommendation is to replace the entire engine with a new 2. 0l produced after 2018 when Ford redesigned the engine addressing the problem. The online community is complaining of having to deal with very high repair costs of this issue (needing to replace the whole engine), but Ford has not addressed it with the many owners or issued a recall.
Under acceleration the vehicle will sometimes enter into limp mode. Vehicle will violently brake and come to a halt and the driver can only accelerate up to +/-5mph to be able to pull off to the side of the road. The deceleration when this happens is sudden and violent. During this event the steering wheel is difficult to turn. All dash warning and fault lights flash during the malfunction. You have to pull over, shut the vehicle off, and then restart. This has happened with our two kids in the vehicle while merging onto a freeway. I have brought it to Ford 4 times. The first time they said a harness was loose and they fixed it. Other times they blamed my use of a narrower diameter winter tire, but it happens with the stock wheels as well. The malfunction continues to happen. They have not been able to duplicate the issue, so they asked me to drive around with a obd2 scanner attached. When the malfunction happens, no error codes are reported. The Ford technician said that if it were their vehicle, they would not drive it with their children in the car. Ford has had the vehicle for almost a month now and have requested we pick it up because they cannot duplicate the malfunction and have suggested that I drive until it happens again, which is pointless as the malfunction does not trigger an error code. My wife refuses to drive the car, especially with our children in it. I have talked to Ford corporate, and they said they would escalate, but now they are not returning my emails or answering their phones. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. It may be helpful to know that when I first started bringing the vehicle in for this malfunction, it was still 100% under warranty. Thank you.
My engine has coolant intrusion, which makes the car more at risk for engine failure or can start on fire and the only way to fix is a whole new engine replacement. This vehicle only has 56,800 miles and Ford isn’t willing to replace engine because it’s met its 5 year warranty period but has not meet the 60,000 warranty period. I use this vehicle to travel with my family and just thinking it could start on fire any time do to an engineer flaw is ridiculous. This vehicle poses safety concerns for many families and I hope you guys hold the manufacturer responsible for these issues.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the vehicle started after pressing the push to start button several times and depressing the accelerator pedal simultaneously. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal rattling sound while driving. The contact stated that the rattling sound became louder when the vehicle was idling. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure could be related to customer satisfaction campaign: 22n12; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that 50% of the cost for the repair would be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
The contact's daughter owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter and bolts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17v427000 (power train) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 88,317.
Vehicle has a knocking noise and struggles to start up and when it does it shakes. When driving the vehicle it can lose power to the wheels. In one instance I was driving on the highway around 75 mph when it suddenly lost power and could not go about 35 mph. Now the vehicle will not start at all.
Got diagnosed with needing rear differential work $5k right after extended warranty was up, I proudly maintain my car well and in timely fashion. The vehicle is now unable to turn and reverse without sounding like something is breaking; this is two months after diagnosis. Spoke with Ford quick lane rep who stated a lot of the Ford vehicle’s differential have been going up. Such a expensive important mechanical power train issues shouldn’t be a issue so soon in the life of a vehicle; this appear it needs to be a recall or something done for the thousands of people that have this issue.
The 2. 0 ecoboost engine 2017 Ford Edge titanium coolant leaking into many places. White smoke coming from exhaust flooding into the streets I have been told the long block issue as well. The vehicle was at an independent service center where it sat for over three weeks while they worked hard trying to find the issues. Finally they advised me to get a second opinion through Ford which I did for over $300 for the same inspection. They have given me an outrageous estimate of over $16,000 to repair the issues. This is a common issue with this particular engine. I have read numerous complaints since purchasing it . Ford needs to be held accountable for all these defective engines they have yet to recall these dangerous vehicles. My vehicle is currently sitting in storage because it is inoperable. I’m still making loan payments on this defective vehicle. I have reached out to Ford many times for assistance and they have turned me away. I will soon have to file a lawsuit against Ford if they do not come forward and resolve this issue. I will never ever purchase another Ford.
Due to faulting welding in the torque converter, the transmission failed and the car would shudder and disengage while driving. . Read more...
2017 Edge 2. 0 ecoboost 1. Cylinders have coolant and oil in them. . . Affected by the engine misfire associated with the coolant leaking into the cylinders. Available for inspection. 2. Car started to smoke. And over heat while my kids were inside, the risk of fire was exponentially high. 3. Inspected by car dealership, due to desire to sell it, and autozone manager who is a mechanic. 4. Yes check engine light anx then the " reduced power to protect engine " and then " coolant over temp" and at a little over 60 thousand miles.
My Ford Edge se flex plate broke while on the highway I was rapidly slowing down and could not get over cause of cars passing me on the right and left causing the vehicle behind me to almost rear ending me. I had it towed to the Ford dealership and he has confirmed it is the flex plate that broke. There was a rattling sound approximately a week prior to it breaking I had an appointment with the dealership the same day it broke and got towed in.
2017 Ford Edge coolant leaking into cylinder(s) dealership unable to schedule appointment for four months. Vehicle unsafe to drive due to possible engine failure estimate to repair, per 3rd party mechanic is $10,000 (Ford tech confirmed) power train warranty is 60,000. Problem occurred at 69,000 miles. Research indicates this is a common problem with this and other Ford vehicles, with class action law suits in several states. However, it is not covered under a recall at this time.
Own a 2017 Ford Edge 2. 0l ecoboost engine with 68,000 miles. Check engine light came on so took it to a local mechanic who replaced the spark plugs, coils, evap sensors, and cam shaft position sensor. The code was stating a misfire in the #2 cylinder. Less than a week later the light came back on and got an engine overheating warning. Added coolant and then had to add more coolant a few days later with no evidence of a coolant leak. When starting the vehicle or accelerate from a stop would notice a liquid swooshing sound. Also when starting the vehicle it would tremble and run ruff for a minute or two. There would be a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe with a bad oder that would eventually dissipate after diving a few miles. Finally drove the car to work and when I went to leave afterwards the vehicle would not start. Would crank but would never turn over. Had the car towed to a Ford dealer that diagnosed coolant leaking into the number 2 cylinder. They told me the only fix was to replace the engine. They gave me Fords number and told me to call and complain since I only had 68,000 miles on it. They gave me a copy of Fords response which states, “as a subsequent with no recent new vehicle or paid repair history, the customer generates a 0% share recommendation, meaning they do not meet the clv requirements for the flp assistance. Ford motor company is unable provide financial assistance in this case”. Called Ford and was told that there was nothing they could do since I was 8,000 miles over warranty and refused to offer any discounts or assistance. Asked to speak to the warranty department that made the decision not to cover and was informed there was no extension for that department so I can not speak to anyone that made the decision not to cover any of the costs. Was quoted from the dealer the cost for the repairs will be $7,710. 81 plus taxes. This is a major safety issue as the defect can cause the engine to overheat and start on fire.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while reversing into a parking space, the vehicle suddenly stalled. There was an abnormal cracking sound coming from underneath the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had been towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed. The contact stated that vehicle failure was related to a customer satisfaction program NHTSA id number: 10144200 (power train) and NHTSA campaign number: 22v413000 (power train) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure then referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 71,600.
On 08/17/22 I took my car into bill collins because there was a loss of coolant, and my SUV was acting up. It was jerking randomly. At the time the SUV was noted to have 63,860 miles. Dealership fixed recalls on vehicle and did a pressure test and said there was a water pump leak. Replaced water pump and gasket. Check engine light remained on and when asked dealership about it they said in order to get the check engine light off it would have to go to another part of the dealership, and we would be charged another $99 diagnostic fee. On 11/21/22 SUV was taken back to bill collins because it was still doing the same thing. This time you could also hear water moving/draining from behind the dash and the check engine light was still on. Dealership fixed another recall showing on vehicle and said that the water pump had air pocket. Sent home but sputtering engine was not fixed. 12/08/22 contacted dealership again to let them know that nothing they have done over the past several months has worked and SUV is still acting up. Was told they would have a higher up mechanic look at vehicle to see what the issue was. Dealership contacted us two days later stating that vehicle needs a new motor. Current mileage 67,883. Dealership stated they verified coolant intrusion into cylinder and that it is necessary to replace the long block. Exact verbiage from dealership employee. (coolant intrusion into cylinder #2. Verified defective engine block. Coolant leaking internally. ) my SUV has been in and out of bill collins Ford for the past 4 months and no one could figure out the problem. Yet, when we spoke to bill collins about the new motor, we were told at that time that this is a known issue. Yet, no one mentioned it for 4 months and I've been driving my vehicle in this condition? I work for Ford and have supported Ford for the past 7 years. I am wanting to understand how Ford is going to make this right.
While driving the vehicle on a major roadway in pittsburgh, pennsylvania, my vehicle suddenly stopped! it would not move forward or backwards. This was a definite safety issue and fortunately, the only cars around me were in the left and right lanes. I was in the middle lane and fortunately there was not a car directly behind me, or it would have run right into me. My vehicle went from travelling at 60 miles per hour to a complete standstill. My car is currently in monroeville Ford right now for the same problem. This is after having the transmission replaced twice and having the engine replaced. The thing that is alarming is that was a safety issue and I, along with others could have been killed. It was only by the grace of god that other vehicles weren't behind me when my vehicle suddenly stopped.
