2 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

After driving for a while (roughly a few hours) the Edge does this hard jerk forward that feels like I'm practically being rear ended. It's like a hard pause, before it jerks forward. Then it gradually accelerates. Also, on a few occasions, while pulling out of a parking lot, the Edge did not want to accelerate though I was pressing on the gas. Mind you, I wasn't going fast because I had barely pulled out of the parking stall when this occurred. It barely accelerated then gradually came to a complete stop while in drive. This has also happened while I was exiting the freeway once. I initially thought my battery was the problem, but I had it replaced the following morning. I took it to the dealership and I was told nothing was wrong with it. This was the same response I got when I've taken it to Ford during the term of my warranty. I have noticed that if the "check engine light" isn't on, nor if you're not paid out of pocket, Ford does not recognize a problem. This problem is quite worrisome considering I'd hate to be stranded with my children in an intersection. I live in a very town (los angeles county) where traffic is steady and aggressive so knowing this problem can happen anytime is unsettling, especially because I have been rear ended once for not being able to proceed with traffic at a green light. 2008 Ford Edge, purchase in 2012.

4 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/17/2014

While driving on the highway at 70 mph, the car suddenly jerked and quickly lost speed, and the wrench light came on. I attempted to press the gas pedal, however nothing reacted, the car wouldn't accelerate. After turning on the hazard lights, I was able to creep to the shoulder and on then onto the off-ramp where I restarted the car. Initially everything worked; I was able to accelerate, but shortly after the jerking/loss of speed happened again. After calling my husband to meet me where I was stranded, I called my insurance company to active roadside assistance. Our car was towed to a local Ford shop where they told us that our electronic fuel throttle failed and had to been replaced at just about $900 (plus the tow).

5 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/13/2014

During driving, the engine stopped and car would not accelerate, there was a complete loss of power. There was no warning, and the "yellow wrench" light came on, and car would not go. This was in the middle of the road and could not get off of the road. It happened so quickly, there was no time to react to try to pull over. Lost steering and couldnt move anywhere. Waited for 1 min or so, and restarted car.

6 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

After starting car, vehicle made loud clunk sound when put in reverse. Car would not accelerate without pressing accelerator more than usual and engine revved high. Dash board went blank except for wrench symbol, airbag symbol and odometer had all dashes. Turned car off, waited a few minutes, turned car back on and everything was back to normal, car drove fine. This has happened about 5 times within the past 3 years, several months apart. Have also had to replace rear tail lights multiple times, sometimes within 2 days of replacement. Have taken car to Ford service, but they can't pinpoint problem. Now car is out of warranty. Seems like it could be electrical or sensors. Have read and seen videos of many others with this same problem with this year, make and model. Wish Ford would help owners like ourselves with a recall to fix this, as our loyalty has gone away with frustration. Have just today, 03/27/14 had my car towed to repair shop to check transmission. The dashboard has returned to normal, but loud clunk when shifting and will not accelerate without flooring it.

7 Car Will Not Accelerate problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

The speedometer went to zero and all the mileage information went blank. The front airbag light, service wrench and shortly there after the tire pressure monitor light came on. I exited the freeway and after stopping for the traffic light the vehicle would not accelerate, but moved slowly apparently stuck in the high gears. The vehicle would not shift up or down. The next stop light the same problem. I parked in a parking lot and recycled the ignition and the mileage information returned. However when I put the vehicle into reverse the transmission began to clunk violently! I then switched to drive and again it clunked violently! I recycled the ignition again and put it into reverse again clunking violently. I again recycled the ignition and put into reverse the vehicle trans clunked moving backwards. I then pulled forward shifting to drive again with a clunk the vehicle moved forward as if still in higher gears. I drove across the parking lot to about 30 mph and braked to a stop it down shifted hard. After that the trans worked to get us home, however the cruise control would not light up on the dash or would not function period. I have taken it to hemborg Ford in norco, CA to check with 59,175 miles on the vehicle. Just two weeks earlier the right rear axle bearing was wining and Ford replaced the bearing.
