36 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2012

My daughter was driving our 2005 Ford escpape on the highway at 55 mph when it completely cut off on her. Luckily she was able to get to the side of the highway without incident. She got the car back on and made it home, however, it was jerking and misfiring all the way home. We took it to a mechanic who said it needed spark plugs and 2 coils to the tune of $700. 00. When we went to pick it up we were told that the computer was shot and that we had to take it to the Ford dealership. The Ford place is replacing all 6 coils and the computer for $2300. 00. Apparently there is a known problem with Ford installing the wrong spark plugs in these models at the factory causing the coils and the computer to go out. I don't understand why Ford has not recalled this problem. Going down a highway at 55 mph and you car cuts off is a safety issue in my eyes!!.

39 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2012

Around 150,000 miles the vehicle started stalling when slowing down or coming to a stop after exiting the highway, but it would only happen on very hot, humid days. I took a 2,000 mile round trip down south and it started happening more frequently, stalling at every toll booth, and didn't need to be as hot or humid for it to happen. They finally diagnosed it as the transmission solenoid, which I replaced. It ran ok for a few months, then it started up again. This time they said it appears to be running too rich, but they don't know why or how to fix it (I have consulted 2 garages). It intermittently idles rough, acting as though it wants to stall out and actually has several times.

49 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2011

I was on my way to work in the morning on a busy highway. Just got into the passing lane and the whole thing died right there in the passing lane. Thank god no one was very close to me and that there was a policeman coming down the mountain and saw me. He pulled behind me to block the lane. This was a very unsafe situation. If someone would have been close in back of me, they would have ass-ended me or would have had to quickly get in another lane or oncoming traffic. I had to have the vehicle towed to the garage. Replaced the spark plugs, all 6 coils and the computer was fried. After a bit of research online, I saw that there are many complaints about this unsafe issue with the 2005 Escape. Some suddenly stopping on the interstate. From what I have read, it is due to the spark plugs Ford installed in the 2005 Escape. Not understanding why there is no recall. This is a very unsafe situation, that Ford can stop by putting out a recall. Would they rather have a law suite when someone loses their life due to their negligence that can be prevented. This was a quite an expensive bill that I had to pay which could have been prevented if Ford would have issued a recall. I will think twice before buying another Ford.

50 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2011

After driving at high speeds and then slowing down, (for example: getting off the interstate on the offramp) the Escape will stall out and the engine will stop. It will start again, but will stall out when the car is put into gear. This has happened multiple times to me. Mechanics have not been able to repeat the issue. There is a recall on the 2004 Escape due to this exact mistake, but the Ford dealership will not fix mine because they cannot repeat the issue.

57 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2008

I bought a used 2005 Escape with 40k miles. It has been pampered and now had just over 50k on it. I went to start it on a cold morning and it would not start. After it warmed up I tried again and it fired, but not running on all cylinders. It turns out the ignition coils are prone to failure. This car is only 3 years old and I need to replace three of the six ignition coils? this car is out of warranty so I am responsible for the repair. The car kept stalling and had a top speed of around 30mph on the way to the dealership to diagnose the problem. I will never buy another Ford product again. I am disgusted!.

58 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2007

I own a Ford Escape 2005 four door 4wd that has been every 2-3 years in the shop for coils and computer damage. Ford has a problem with these cars and the problem is that last Friday I was driving on a main road when all of a sudden my car just died while I am driving in a 50 mile zoned road. Luckily, I was able to quickly maneuver the vehicle to a safe spot. I was informed that it will cost $2700 to replace the computer that was shorted out due to the coils going bad - I had the coils changed two times since 2007 Ford knows about this problem Ford srb 09. 2. 6 and TSB 09-2-6 ignition coil problem that so many others are having with this car - the car stalls always when driving 50 or more on a main road or highway and it is very dangerous to all of a sudden lose power on a highway at high speeds and not being able to even move the steering wheel to glide your car safely to the side of the road due to the steering locking up because the car dies totally. The computer codes that show up are p0351 -p0354 and some other ones that I didn't write down when I was talking to the thompsons mechanic. I cant believe that this year and model wasn't recalled - according to thompsons, there is a back order for the computer module for this car, two weeks minimum due to so many Escapes 2005 needing this same computer because it was shorted out prematurely and unsafely. It never happens when you drive less than 50 so this is strange and very dangerous. I would like Ford to repay us the damages and costs that us customers, have dished out recurring every 2-3 years. Coils should not have to be replaced that many times nor should the plugs and absolutely not the computer. Please look into this and make Ford do a recall and retroactive since they already have so many complaints about this same problem but they don't want to or refuse to do a mass recall.

61 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2006

New 2005 Ford Escape has numerous issues that are not being addressed by multiple dealer shops: - intermittent stalling, similar to problem causing recall of 2001 - 2003 Escapes. Car will suddenly lose power, resulting in loss of power sterring and brakes. Dealer cannot reproduce, so will do nothing about it. - gasoline smell and loud knocking from engine in hot temperatures. - extremely low gas mileage, almost 50% below advertised mileage. These complaints appear in other reports as well, so this is not isolated. Ford is doing its best not to address any of these issues and telling people to just deal with it.
