1 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

I was driving home when I noticed a loud bumping noise. . . My back passenger wheel well is completely rusted away, which has affected my shock mounting bracket. Every little bump causes it to shake and about a week ago the bracket actually went through the plastic and there is a hole inside the back of the vehicle. I see so many identical complaints and its very disappointing that Ford has done nothing to resolve this issue. I know that the Ford Escape 2001- 2004 were recalled for this exact issue and its disconcerting that they are ignoring the same problem for the 2005-2008 Escape. How many more thousands of complaints is it going to take for them to at least investigate this unsafe, reoccurring issue?! hopefully , something will be done soon before someone gets seriously injured.

2 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The rear right upper sock mount felt off so there is no where we can put the shock. Therefore, it has a big hole on the fender well that you can see the inside this is something that should not had happen plus on the left side you can see rust cracks in the fender well and continues to the upper shock mount. I think this is something that the company has to address and fixed it because it is a safety issue.

3 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

The right rear wheel well is severely rusted and shock is no longer attached. You can see the interior of vehicle from rear fender well. Frame is aslo begining to crack in this area too. At this point the vehicle is not safe to drive. This seems to be a problem for many others with this same make and year. What does it take for Ford to realize this is a defect. Someone is going to get hurt or even a loss of life if nothing is done. Now I have a vehicle that was driven daily sitting in my driveway because it is unsafe to drive.

4 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

The rear wheel well where the shock is located the whole frame panel is cracked, it was covered up from a previous owner or company. The car dealership I'm purchasing from would not take responsibility for it and I explained the hazard in me driving or keeping the vehicle and I took it to several body shops and was told it happens with these vehicles frequently and one shop had already done 3 of the same areas. There is no recall or information about the vehicles issues but this is a danger to drive.

5 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2013

While driving a loud crack/pop was heard from the passenger rear wheel and then there was road noise. When we stopped there was a large hole in the wheel well around the shock mount. All the metal has rusted through. The shock has no attachment left to the upper body, only along the bottom edge. When the vehicle bounces it moves independently of the shock in that corner. I opened up the interior compartment, removed the carpet and trim pieces to get a look and found a hole that is large enough to put my hand through. This car has less than 78,000 miles. The tires and brakes were replaced in the fall and no signs of damage were present at that time due to the undercoating being in place.

6 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

I had been hearing rattling from the rear passenger side for about 3 weeks. On around January 28th I was driving home from work and heard a loud noise. I later discovered a large crack and hole on the inside passenger panel. After further inspection I discovered the passenger side rear wheel well had a whole section missing and the shock I can move with my hand. After doing some research online I have discovered that several 2004/2005 Escapes have had the same issue. This is clearly a defect. It needs to be addressed and a recall needs to be done.
