Abs failure. The car brakes may at times lock-up without notice. Transmission failure: the transmission acts as if it's in neutral when in both forward gear or reverse. Transmission appears to be in good repair but this issue persist. This issue appears to occur from a beginning acceleration such as putting car in reverse and accelerating or putting car in drive and accelerating. This also happens when you may be stopped at a traffic light and attempt to proceed only to have the car act as if it's in neutral. This slipping in and out of gear issue seems to only happen from a take off speed.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a transmission valve failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Driving in routine traffic when the car appeared to shift to overdrive then lost all forward drive. After about two minutes, the transmission tried to engage, and then lost all drive again all recommended service had been completed and the vehicle gave no early indication of failure. We contacted Ford who said they had no recalls and the vehicle was out of warranty. Comments by the driver of the towing service suggested other Escapes in the area have had similar problems. Further research suggests this make and model has become infamous for transmission failure at approximately the same mileage.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. While the contact was driving approximately 25 mph, attempting to make a turn, the transmission suddenly failed to operate without warning. After numerous attempts the transmission began to function with extremely little movement. The contact was able to maneuver to the side of the road safely. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and had been there for over a month, and currently remained. The dealer informed that there was internal damage within the transmission, and discovered a computerized system defect. The dealer performed repairs to the transmission and continued to investigate the computerized system defect. The failure mileage was 61,000.
