1 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2020

At times before acceleration, the accelerator gets stuck. The vehicle continues to go unless the brakes are applied. There have been times when I am in traffic and it has happened. The sticking happens either at a stop sign, traffic light, or simply just leaving out of a parking lot. Sometimes it may happen if I am coming out of a turn. Its scary when I am on a busy highway, street, or on/off ramp and there is other traffic speeding behind me. I can not identify the part that is causing this. It may have something to do with the speed control system of the vehicle. This happens quite often since I purchased the vehicle from a family member in July. Most recent was on 12/29/2020.

2 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2017

I have owned this Escape for only about 9 months. I have had many sporadic issues with the gas pedal. The gas pedal has stuck a few times and I have been unable to press down on the pedal. It seems to act up worse when the weather gets colder. I have had a few instances where I was driving and was unable to accelerate and had to put my vehicle in park and keep pressing down on the gas pedal until it finally allowed me to accelerate and move forward. When the pedal locks up it is like pressing against a wall and there is no give in the pedal but when it does finally press down it causes a high acceleration and cause the vehicle to launch forward. This is definitely a scary situation when you are in traffic and all of the sudden can't drive your car. Thankfully I have not been in any accidents because of this issue but I feel it is only a matter of time unless this issue is fixed. After doing a bit of research I see that there are many other people who have had similar issues with this make. It is very unsafe and I am always worried about being stranded or having this cause an accident. As a mother of a 4 year old this is definitely a scary issue to have! I love my Escape and would love to keep it but I do not feel safe driving it like this. I hope that this issue is being looked into after seeing other complaints about this problem and I hope that this issue can be resolved!.

3 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2017

The accelerator pedal sticks often and requires extra foot manipulation to get it to work properly. This occurs mostly when accelerating from a stop and makes pulling out into traffic a dangerous proposition. This occurs on city streets and from stop lights on larger state highways. It has also failed to depress, causing the vehicle to be immovable for a time.

4 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2016

In 2016 November my gas pedal stuck to the floor and I freaked out and ran into my neighbors garage and I had 10 fired fighters and sherriff look at my turned off Escape and the accelerated pedel was completely sitting on the floor of the vehicle and it also was towed to Ford and said the accelerator pedal link was completely broke and it was not covered under insurance for they said this is a manufacture issue and not insurance and so I had to use the front end damage to pay for the $1500 repair on a part that should not have broke, Ford has now over 100 complaints to this say problem and no fix. . . . . This vehicle accelerated and rammed a neighbors garage door and I could have been killed and all the sheriff and firefighters say they have never seen an accelerator pedal depressed to the floor and I was lucky. . . . Ford fix this. . . . This is going to kill someone and it I had injuries from the whiplash.

5 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

First cold morning the gas pedal stuck after 5 miles. No movement. I was in the left lane & had to cross other lanes to safety. My wife refuses to drive this car. Dealer says throttle body issues on other Escapes are covered by a 10 year/150,000 mile warranty.

6 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

Accelerator pedal sticking, intermittently not working.

7 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

Purchased a 2008 Ford Escape new in 2008 and have had it worked on 3 different times for the accelerator sticking caused by the throttle body. It was never replaced. Now because I have 116000 miles on it I just got taken advantage of. Once again the accelerator stuck and luckily I was able to pull over and hold the brake and shut it off. I paid $110 to tow it to a Ford dealership. Well now it is going to cost me $1000 to replace the throttle body. This should have been done previously and now it seems to be on me or risk being killed due to this safety issue. Even if it was never issued as a recall item I have had issues with this since purchasing it new in 2008. I want something done. I did call Ford mtr CO and was told they could not help me because the vehicle has over 100000 miles on it. Well if it had been handled even once in the past 3 times it could have gotten me killed then it would not be an issue now.

8 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

2008 Ford Escape had the recall done for the power steering in September then in November I had everything checked because my gas pedal got stuck. Then I got the readout they gave me a list of all of the problems that were wrong with my vehicle which nothing appeared when they did the recall the torque sensor was one of them something that they should have replaced but told me since it didn't read at the time the software was the only thing that they could do and I had to pay for it now. Now in February the power steering went back in to manual they will not fix it at the dealership they tell me to call Ford. Ford tells me that there's nothing that they can do that there's an independent company that handles recalls the dealership tells me to call Ford so from September till now I put about 5000 miles on the vehicle I don't think I should have to pay for this the only thing I can think of is to take them to court along with Ford motor company I don't understand how they can find so many things wrong with my vehicle now when they had to do a diagnostic check and check the entire vehicle and did not find anything wrong at that time. All they did was software update I dropped it off and had it back in one hour and two months later they want me to pay for all these things wrong with my vehicle when I definitely suspect that everything was wrong with it at the time they just don't want to pay for anything and I definitely feel like the government should go after them.

10 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

When I would try to accelerate whether from a stopped position or already in motion my gas pedal sticks. I'm unable to press it down and I lose speed. Each time I press the gas pedal or brake pedal I hear a pop. I was trying to merge onto the highway and it suddenly wouldn't let me accelerate for a few minutes. This is very dangerous and frightening. It also does this if I'm already in motion of if I try to accelerate from a stopped position. I fear for my life and the life of my family. I take my husband to work an hour away, this is terrifying and unacceptable. I also transport my children to their jobs and schools. Please help before someone gets killed.

11 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

"stuck gas pedal": as I was driving to work in moderately heavy traffic on us 127 in michigan at approximately 8 a. M. , on 10 October 2014, the gas pedal froze on my (manual transmission) 2008 Ford Escape and I began to lose speed quickly from the 70 mph I had been traveling. The pedal would not move up or down no matter how hard I pushed or pulled at it. I tried kicking it as best as I could but it would not budge, and the floor mat was not near the pedal at all. I had to maneuver to the shoulder of the road and continued 'coasting' while I tried to get the pedal to move. The area I was at was not conducive to a full stop unless absolutely necessary due to the clearance on the side of the road and the curve I was on. My speed had dropped to less than 55 mph when the gas pedal finally released and I was able to push it down to increase my speed again and eventually work back into traffic, though with caution in case it happened again as I was still not in an area safe for a full stop. The temperature at that time was around freezing. I took the Escape to the Ford dealer and they said no codes appeared when scanned so there was nothing to indicate it had happened. They also told me that neither my vehicle, nor the throttle assembly in it are listed as part of the recall for "sticky accelerator pedal" for Ford Escapes. This is a 2008 manual transmission, 4 cy. , 4-door, 2wd Escape. Why was it not included in the recall? I've had problems with the gas pedal 'catching' and then immediately releasing since we bought it (at about 16000 miles), but the dealer could never duplicate the problem and thus did nothing about it. My online research indicates this "frozen" or "stuck" pedal (where the pedal will not depress at all) is not a new issue and across all model years, yet nothing has been done by Ford and they refuse to acknowledge it.

12 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

I was decelerating to a red light, when my accelerator depressed and stuck to the floor on it's own, I had to shut the ignition off and coast into the gas station to get the vehicle to come too a stop. I took it to andy mohr Ford and was told it needs a new electronic throttle body, which is a 600. 00 repair. I bought my Escape used so there is no warranty nor could I afford this repair. I researched the issue and found a recall for the electronic throttle body, but was told by andy mohr, the recall doesn't apply to my specific build. I then contacted Ford corporate and opened a claim with them, I was told they would take care of it ( because it's a manufactures defect and a safety issue )and was referred back to andy mohr this time I spoke with the customer service manager and told the sane thing, that because I don't have a warranty,, the repair isn't coveted and I'm therefore responsible for the cost of repair. This can't be right or legal, this problem poses a safety risk to myself and my family as well as my fellow drivers I could potentially hurt or kill when this accelerator decides to depress and stick again.

13 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

The gas pedal is getting stuck and not working properly especially during times when the weather gets cold. When gas pedal is pressed to moved vehicle forward the pedal gets extremely difficult to press down and vehicle doesn't move. Once it does work it jerks the vehicle forward in which if another car is in front this could cause an accident.

14 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

Gas pedal sticks and when you push it, the vehicle will not go. After pumping it a few times, the car goes forward very fast. When pushing the gas pedal, you don't know if the car will not move or if it will lurch forward.

15 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Accelerator pedal sticks upon attempting to accelerate. This problem has been on and off for the last six months, but has worsened. Last incident (12/14/13) pedal completely stuck to floor. Contacted dealer and was advised of a $70 diagnostic fee and deductible. Prior to this incident from August 2011 to August 2013 experienced three incidents of steering column locking, column did not respond to keys, keys would not unlock doors manually or with clicker, and ignition switch would not turn when key is inserted. Dealer replaced steering column (2011), but problem returned on two separate occasions within two years. On last two visits to dealer regarding ignition problem - dealer could not verify problem existed and deemed the battery as problem. Dealer replaced my newly installed battery (less than a year old) with their battery without my consent and required me to pay for unapproved battery - which I had them to remove, and reinstall my original battery that worked fine. Called on Ford dealer on 12/16/13 regarding incident of pedal sticking, and received head wrenching response. Was informed that my car was not on the list for recalls eventhough Ford just paid a hefty $17+ million fine for not recalling these Fords for sticking gas pedals!.

16 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

During cooler weather the gas pedal becomes "stuck" and can not be pushed. Almost as though something is placed under the gas pedal. You have to literally stomped on it to get it down and sometimes that doesn't even work. When this problem initially started happening, it would happen right after starting. I began to tell my daughter to warm her car and press the pedal a few times before leaving. She just called me and this incident happened while she was driving! it is 54 degrees here and this is the first time it has happened since last winter. I have read several complaints about this and feel that it is a huge safety hazard especially for my 16 year old daughter.

17 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2012

Gas pedal sticks, especially in cold weather. Have had to put car into neutral on more than 1 occasion due to pedal sticking at high speed. Also sticks when accelerating at low speed, making acceleration almost impossible.

18 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

The gas pedal sticks. I have been told it is most likely the throttle body. It is getting progressively worse and I fear it may lead to an accident if it is not repaired.

19 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2012

My daughter was driving her 2008 Ford Escape and her gas pedal stuck while trying to get it in gear to reverse at least ten different times. . When this occurred in January of 2012 however, she was turning onto a busy street when the gas pedal stuck while the speed went down to zero. Luckily she was not rear ended. She was away at college and I told her to get it to the Ford dealer near her. The problem was diagnosed as the throttle body was sticking and replacement was advised and was subsequently completed at a cost of $486. 83. I have just recently learned of recalls for this problem with the throttle on several Escape model years. I want to know if I have any recourse to be reimbursed for this repair.

22 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

May 30th, 2012 2008 Ford Escape stopped at a stop light, gas pedal was stuck rendering vehicle unable to move. Mileage was approximately 70,000 miles. Had vehicle towed to local Ford dealership. They replaced the entire pedal assembly. Within about 3 months, the pedal seemed to start catching again. Problem is intermitted not continuous but very dangerous in heavy traffic. 24 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2010

2008 Ford Escape gas pedal sticks in cold weather. When the car is started in the morning after a cold night it is very difficult to push the pedal down. After warming it is drivable but has occasionally, in cold weather become difficult to push down after a few miles also. This is very scary. My Escape is a stick shift so I was able to put the car in neutral and try to pump the pedal up and down to loosen it up. Car is now at the dealer and waiting for the throttle body replacement which is on back order. Web search found others with the same problem after car has about 40k miles. Do no see any recalls at this time but it is a safety concern.

25 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

2008 Ford Escape - 28,500 miles - problems with accelerator sticking. Large amount of force required to break through the sticking point which in turn caused the vehicle accelerate faster than desired - especially in stop and go traffic. Car was taken to the local Ford dealership and they determined that it was the throttle body assembly and replaced it. Thankfully, the car was still under warranty.

26 Accelerator Stuck problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2010

I have a 2008 Ford Escape 2008 that has been having issues with the accelerator pedal being difficult to press or getting stuck while driving. I reported the issue in March 2010 to the dealership but they could not get it to replicated so I was told no concern found. However recently I was driving my vehicle on 12/04/2010 which is my birthday and my vehicle accelerator pedal got stuck to the ground of the vehicle while I was merging into traffic and almost had a major accident. I have gone to Ford website and noted that this issue has been ongoing with this make and model vehicle, I have taken my car back to the dealership and am struggling with them to get the repair done at cost to Ford. Ford customer care states there is no recall on the throttle body which in my car and others like mine needs replacing. Also I have seen on the official Ford site where this problem has been sited by other customers and yet nothing has been done by the company or the government to ensure the safety of the consumer. The service manager at the dealership luckily my problem got that high up the chain to get recognized otherwise I would still be driving myself, family and loved ones in a defective car. . . For all the Ford Escape drivers with the year make and models of 2008 we need your help! the economy is in a recession and yet we are still being gourged by capitalist companies that won't do right by consumers. . .
