1 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2018

Went to accelerate and gas pedal dropped to the floor board and stayed there. I was on the highway at the time. Dealer said it was a broken throttle cable and wants to charge me $300.

2 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

The vehicle gas pedal becomes stiff in cold weather condition and doesn't allow me to accelerate from stop. One time the gas pedal cable also came out and pedal would not come back up.

3 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2017

Dec. 26, 2017 accelerator pedal cable snapped and fell to floor. Had to get tow and now in shop. Throttle body and cable need replacement. $700! this shouldn't have happened. It has under 150,000 miles on it. Seems very dangerous. The pedal has been sticking a lot and now this. Vehicle was in chicago busy intersection. Couldn't even press pedal down to move the car and then something snapped. And pedal fell to floor.

4 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

The gas pedal collapsed to the floor while driving my car. I was fortunate enough to coast in to a parking lot. I was able to play with the pedal returning it to the normal operating position. Took car to Ford dealership. Service department replaced the cable assembly/throttle control. I have seen a lot of similar complaints online about the same exact problem with the 2008 Ford Escape.

5 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

I was driving on the freeway with cruise control on and the safety issue occurred when I tried to slow down/turn off the cruise control. The cruise control would not turn off and the brakes did not work. I was stomping on the brake with both feet and the car was not slowing down. After riding the brakes the car slowed down and I was able to pull into the scales on the side of the freeway. Ford replaced the cruise control cable for $235 and said there was no recall for this safety issue. This was a very dangerous issue and I believe it should be free to fix.

6 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

At the time I was driving this car I was going around a curb in a parking garage when I suddenly lost acceleration on the gas pedal. The pedal went flat to the floor and apparently came undone from its cable. I was unable to drive the car and called a tow company. The tow driver hooked the cable back up for me and I was able to drive again. After searching on line, it appears that Ford offers an inexpensive plastic clip that could prevent this in the future. This is the second time it has happened since I had this car. This is a defect on Ford's part and there should certainly be a recall for this to prevent an accident from happening. Ford wanted me to bring the car in and charge me alot for the service. They need to acknowledge this problem since many other 2008 Ford Escape owners have had the same problem.

7 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

Traveling on road. Press on gas pedal nothing happens. Gas pedal will not go down. No response from pedal . No warning lights come on. Car loses speed. Car will not accelerate. Taken to Ford dealer. Replaced throttle cable and gasket.

8 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floorboard while the contact was attempting to merge onto the highway at approximately 35 mph. The accelerator pedal could not be released. The contact had to shift into neutral and coast to the shoulder of the road where the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the failure as the accelerator pedal cable being fractured. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied any assistance with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 53,300.

9 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal wire snapped while driving. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. The dealer was in the process of replacing the cable. The failure and the current mileage was 90,000.

10 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the contact noticed that the accelerator pedal was detached. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the accelerator pedal was repaired. The failure recurred and the vehicle was towed back to the dealer where the cable was glued to the pedal. The contact no longer felt safe driving the vehicle. The failure mileage was 35,643 and the current mileage was 36,830.

11 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated when he applied pressure to the accelerator it froze and stuck in place. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was informed the failure was due to a throttle cable becoming detached from the pedal. The failure recurred numerous times but only whenever the weather was cold. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 120,000.

12 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. After starting the vehicle, the contact attempted to accelerate and noticed that the vehicle would not respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the throttle cable was replaced. The contact was still experiencing the failure. The current and failure mileages were 56,000.

13 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2011

2nd instance in less than one year of broken accelerator pedal cable clips in 2008 Ford Escape. The defect is known and is addressed in a Ford TSB, number: TSB-09-21-9. This is an unacceptable problem that should not be repeated. The first instance occured while attempting to pass on the freeway. The failure of the clips resulted in a complete loss of power, which was only non-life threatening because the vehicle was in the right lane. Today's instance occurred in a parking lot. . . After the car was sitting. No power was exerted on the pedal at the time of breakage. This is clearly a defect warranting recall and a more permanent and suitable repair fix. As I stated, this is the second instance in less than a year, so the original part replacement solution is not effective.

14 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

Important addendum to o. D. I. # 10407083: (June 16, 2011) the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when the vehicle suddenly accelerated to higher speeds. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier before rolling over. The contact sustained minor scratches. The police were called and a report was filed. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was pending investigation. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 31,000. ******** car had ongoing mechanical issues which were brought to the attention of our Ford dealer: chief complaint was the gas pedal dropping to the floor by itself-had to be manually coaxed back up to normal operating height; the dealer checked at 1st complaint, said it was at 2nd complaint of the same: they installed a new throttle cable & gas pedal. The car was in a roll over accident which totalled the car shortly after the visit to the mechanic. The car accelerated out of control by itself. Ford has 2 other passenger vehicles on recall now for a similiar problem: throttle body issues leading to runaway acceleration (free style & free star).

15 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

My gas pedal just stopped working while I was driving 65 mph on a highway. It was flat on the floor - I could not even feel it with my foot. Thankfully I was able to get it off the road safely since it was early in the morning with no other cars around - it could have caused a major accident. We had the car towed to the dealership, and they told us that the throttle cable had broken. They refused to cover any expense of fixing it or towing it because our warranty of 36,000 miles has expired. This is a 2008 vehicle with 67,000 miles on it - the gas pedal should not just stop working! I have reviewed other complaints and it appears that at least 4 others have filed complaints for the same problem for 2008 Ford Escapes. I am very disappointed in how Ford is handling these issues.

16 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2009

Recently purchased a 2008 Ford Escape with 42000 miles. While driving on the expressway at 70mph I heard a loud snap, and the accelerator pedal fell to the floor. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the expressway and towed to a repair facility. Upon inspection, it was found the accelerator cable had failed, with the cable itself snapping at a point approx. 1/8 inch from the end at the pedal.

17 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. Seven days after the vehicle was purchased, it failed to start. The dealer stated that the accelerator pedal cable lines failed. The repairs were made at the manufacturer's expense. On a separate occasion, while driving less than 40 mph, the contact heard a loud revving noise. The vehicle was hesitant to pick up speed. The accelerator pedal became inoperable and the contact coasted the vehicle off the highway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they found that the accelerator pedal cable lines failed again. The manufacturer assumed liability for the second time. The current and failure mileages were less than 29,500.

18 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2009

I was accelerating on a freeway on ramp and suddenly my gas pedal was not there - it was limp. I called for a tow and it is now at the dealer. They say the throttle body is sticking and the cable is broken. This happened right before rush hour and luckily I coasted to the side of the road out of the traffic when this happened or I could have easily been killed.

19 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2008

Throttle sticks shut when outside temperature falls below 30 degrees . Have to feel around for right spot to get throttle to move and vehicle to drive. Had throttle cable replaced once by Ford , has done this every winter since then . This year being worse then normal and got stuck so pedal wouldn't move at all.

20 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2008

No gas pedal could not move vehicle had to have towed accelerator cable has happened 2 more times Jan 26 2010 21843 miles Dec 2 2011 33,651 seems to be sticking again at 50,000 Ford says no one else having problems TSB 9-21-9 tells different.

21 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2008

My 2008 Ford Escape was purchased on December 31, 2007 on may 22, 2008, while traveling on the expressway the throttle cable snapped and the gas petal would not function. I was going 65 mph and this put me in a very dangerous position. The car immediately stopped accelerating and had to be pushed into the emergency lane. I was towed to the dealership. There I was told they did not know what the problem was. On August 13, 2008, I exited from the expressway, pulled into a parking lot and the throttle cable snapped again. I was unable to operate the vehicle and had to be towed to the dealership. Again, I was told we do not know why this happened. I new cable was installed. On March 3, 2009, while driving 65 mph on the expressway the throttle cable snapped again. I was unable to accelerate and had to be towed. This was the most dangerous situation, I went from 65 mph to nothing during intense rush hour traffic. I had to be towed to the dealership and again was told we do not understand why this is happening.
