1 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2021

Brakes are pedal is advancing towards the floor without any response until almost at the floor. Master cylinder was replaced and problem still exists. No codes evident, nor signs of defect. Spent entire day at the mechanic to no avail. Must use pumping brake s continually at reduced speeds from greater lengths to stop at appropriate time and location.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the pedal went straight to the floor before stopping. The contact veered to the side of the road and waited for a few minutes before restarting the vehicle before driving back to the residence. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate the failure. The mechanic suspected that the abs brake booster and brake master cylinder had caused of the failure. The failure recurred a few months later. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,550.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2020

In November 2020 while driving my car, by brakes suddenly went soft. To stop my vehicle, I had to press my brake all the way down to the floor before the vehicle stopped. I immediately drove my vehicle to the nearest shop where I had my brake fluid flushed and my brake pads replaced. This temporarily resolved the issue. Exactly one week later, my brakes went soft again. I took my vehicle to my mechanic who said the issue was with my master cylinder. Replacing the master cylinder temporarily resolved the issue. A few weeks later, my brakes went soft again. I've had my master cylinder replaced four times since November 2020. It is now April 2021 and my brakes are still going soft. My vehicle has been with my mechanic for the past three weeks as he's been trying to diagnose the problem. He believes the issue is with the module of the absystem, but no codes register when he plugs the vehicle to the computer. Since this issue does not register a computer code, my mechanic has had issues with accurately identifying the cause of the constant soft braking I've been experiencing for the past five months. I' went online and googled this issue and I've come across forums where hundreds of other Ford Escape (2008 and after) owners are experiencing the same exact issue with their vehicles. All of the Ford Escape owners have had their master cylinders replaced multiple times with no permanent resolution. This is an extremely dangerous safety issue. The most important safety component on every vehicle is the braking system. Seatbelts are required to be worn by law, but what good is a seatbelt if the vehicle is unable to brake and mechanics are unable to diagnose the issue because a computer code does not register.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2020

Brake pedal became very soft, has a very long amount of travel to engage brakes and is soft when being depressed. Took to earnhardt Ford in chandler, az, and they did a brake fluid flush and bleed to ensure no air was in the lines, they advised the brake booster, and master cylinder had actually been replaced already, and recently according to their information, we agreed to the diagnostic charge, and the diagnosis came back that the abs control module has failed, the service tech advised us he believes there is a pending recall/investigation relating to this issue during our visit which is what led us to make this report. Vehicle is only at 88,000 miles, and has no other existing issues. According to paperwork, they refilled the system with dot3 brake fluid during the bleed, control module was not available at the time so replacement was not possible.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2019

On multiple occasions went to press brake pedal but pedal doesn't depress all the way down, as if there was a block of wood or something preventing it. "regen brake disabled" light would appear on dash. Braking power adversely affected during these episodes. Causing to press down on brake very hard just to stop. On some occasions the multiple attempts at pressing of break would cause pedal to depress a little more and on some times non depressing brake pedal sensation would persist, with adverse brake affect. . . . Sometimes experiencing a hypersensitivity to pressing on brake with a choppy braking impact and sometimes experiencing a very limited braking effect, causing one to almost have to "stand up" on the break in order to prevent hitting whomever might be in front. I recall starting to experience this initially about a year ago - roughly Apr 2018 est. . Between then and recently sometimes braking would be more problemsome then other times the experiences seem to wax and wain but about mid December 2019 after parking at work in the morning and returning to the car to go back home. It appeared the emergency parking brake I engaged was stuck. When I turned the vehicle on I got the same illuminated regens brake disabled signal on the dash and it appeared I couldn't get the car out of park. I had to leave vehicle at work. I was away from work a week. Upon return the car started without the regen brake disabled signal but when I release emergency brake & shifted car into reverse, regens brake disable came on again, I was still able to drive however and did, slow and guarded but did. Now a new symptom engaged - I drove to a stop sign and when braking at the light and pulling off, brakes felt still engaged somewhat and progressively driving felt this way. I drove a bit more but shortly had to pull over and call a tow truck. Was told by mechs master cylinder nds replacg.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

Brake pedal travels almost to floor. Had brakes replaced, master cylinder replaced. All brake lines bled and still having same problem.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2018

Ford Escape - brakes started to get very very mushy. Once I pushed on the brakes, the pedal would keep dropping and not be responsive. Luckily I had enough car lengths in front of me and was going slowly enough on neighborhood streets to stop without injuring anything. Luckily I was not on the highway! this is extremely dangerous while driving, so I took my car to a local shop and they replaced the master cylinder. That still did not resolve the issue so they said the hydraulic control unit is faulty and I will not be able to drive my car (as the brakes could completely fail at any time). Took the car to Ford and they said it was the master cylinder (just replaced) and sad if it wasn't that - it was the hydraulic control unit. They did nothing to resolve the issue. This is extremely unsafe and I cannot drive my car since the brakes are failing!.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2018

Vehicle was in motion, getting ready to stop at the end of my driveway when the brakes barely braked, and I had to push the pedal all the way to the floor to make a complete stop. It's like that all the time now. Took it to a mechanic who replaced the brake master cylinder. Did not fix the problem. Mechanic said it's the abs system and that he sees that problem with a lot of Fords.

9 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

Continual brake failure. . Brake pedal goes to floor. Will stop after reapplied but will feel mushy! had master cylinder, one wheel cylinder replaced and they lasted a few weeks with same scenario happening again! local brake specialty shop can't get to the bottom of problem! Ford should have recall to get to bottom of this problem before someone gets hurt or killed.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

When trying to brake the brake petal goes all the way to the floor. Took my vehicle in for service and repair. After spending hundreds of dollars for a new master cylinder, rotors, calibers, brake pads bleeding if the brakes multiple times we were then told that the abs module had two valves stuck in the open position. This part should last the lifetime of the car and there have been several complaints to Ford about this safety issue with this make and module. Ford needs a to do he right thing and do a recall on their abs module.
