Power steering has gone out have replace front inner bearing, transmission lines, keep up on all my maintained records since I bought the vehicle in sept 2014' and have all other maintain economic records.
Vehicle stalled and went into "limp-home" mode after accelerating from a stopped condition. ("limp-home" mode is a mode programmed by Ford engineers to only allow the vehicle to move forward under limited power, generally only 1-2 mph. ) I later found out that this was due to a faulty electronic throttle body. The vehicle then stalled an additional two times about two weeks apart from the first incident. I was able to use my own obd ii code scanner to detect the error code p2111. I found out that this component was determined to be faulty and Ford motor corporation issued an extended warranty coverage for this component. However, Ford will only replace this part if they are able to document the error code themselves on their code scanner. The problem lies in the design of this vehicle in that it won't store this particular code. When the vehicle stalls, the only course of action is to turn off the ignition and turn it back on in hopes of resetting the trhottle body. This works but it cancels the error code. The driver is forced to employ this technique to continue their travel or faced with the option of waiting for Ford to come and scan for the code themselves. If this happens after normal work hours, this of course is not an option. The fact that this error code erases itself in an attempt to get the vehicle moving again is a catch 22 situation and one that Ford should correct. I was forced to purchase my own replacement throttle body since Ford would not replace it.
Lost power while driving in the middle lane on rt. 17 south near ramsey NJ. Engine was still on but rpm`s was very erratic. Wrench warning light came on the check engine light came on. Issues with electronic throttle noted on web sites for Ford Escape models.
Speed decelerated on interstate. Could not increase speed. Engine, sound sysyem, ligjts and steering maintained operable. Had to coast to outside lane and exit freeway. Wrench lite came on and manual indicated throttle control. Have seen numerous complaints about this issue. Had been experiencing slow speed inceleration, bit never this. It was a true state of panic in 5pm rush hour traffic.
Making a turn, my car jerked and could not accelerate. We had to cruise to our destination which was close thank god. I called Ford and they told me to bring it in. I told them I was unsure if it was drivable. He then told me he couldn't tell me what it was til I brought it in. Then told me I could take it in today but won't get checked til Monday. He got my name and number. We went to various auto places for opinions and solutions. We thought we figured it out but a few hours later it did it again. My husband went back to pep boys but was told they could not run diagnostics because the light was not on. I was looking online and noticed a compliant was made about this issue and went to the Ford website and saw it under the recall under my VIN. My husband called the dealership and talked to a manger asking why I was never notified. He explained its not really a recall but had an extended warranty if it meets the criteria. We explained that the first man never mentioned anything nor did he bother to look up my information to see if I had the recall. The manager apologized and said for me to take it in Monday and he would handle my situation. I'm appalled that I was not notified. This is very dangerous, especially because I have my 2 year old daughter in the car with me most of the time. God forbid my car would have stalled on the highway and I would have caused an accident because my car lost power all of a sudden. I never got any notification from Ford about the recall nor the warranty. I think this is very inconsiderate as people's lives are at stake. I pray that no accidents, injuries or deaths occurred because of Ford's negligence. My vehicle fits the warranty criteria so I hope I won't be charged for repairs. I hope the manager keeps his word. The only money I have is for christmas. If I have to pay for repairs, I can't buy gifts for my family or my daughter.
My throttle/powertrain light went on and I found that a recall had been placed and I was never contacted by Ford with a recall letter.
Was at a stop, started to go and the wrench light went on and the gas peddle did not work.
I was driving down the road at 45mph and went to accelerate and when I pressed the gas- the engine felt like it was off- I still had electrical power. I was not able to give the car any gas at all. I coasted until I could pull off the road and when I stopped- the car was idling very rough. The "throttle control/ powertrain" light had come on. I turned off the car and sat for about 5 minutes. When I turned it back on, it idled rough for about 3-4 seconds and the light was still on. Then it smoothed out and the light went off and I was able to drive it back to my house (about 1 mile).
Car started to idle and couldn't give it any gas. It would stall. Started back up and then the gas would not accelerate. Trouble starting back up but would. This kept repeating.
Escape went into limp mode 4 times within the past few months- currently has a field service action number for this problem 13n03, but Ford has set such limits. . . . Dealer must be able to duplicate the incident, but with this power loss - it happens when it happens. Ford does not want to cover repair until that time. So, I have an Escape the stalls. . . When and were it wants, currently car at the dealer. . . . Never received letter from Ford. . . .
My vehicle lost all acceleration while driving at 40mph, the wrench light came on. Pulled over and powered off vehicle and powered it back on (had slight trouble turning over) continued on my way, the vehicle ended up loosing acceleration three times while driving home, was on the busy highway doing 55mpg at one point when all acceleration was lost again. When I explained the problem to Ford they didn't know what was the problem, they ended up replacing the throttle body, but why wasn't this a mandatory recall when accidents could have occurred from loss of acceleration.
Throttle stopped working and service light came on. Coasted to the side of the road, shut it off and started it up again. It worked for several miles before happening again. Next day it happened several more times on the way to the dealer. The dealer changed the throttle position sensor at no charge. The first set of incidents happened with my 7 month old in the car, so it was scary and dangerous. It is my understanding that Ford is aware of the problem with this year/model.
I have had my 2009 Ford Escape in the Ford dealer 5 times for NHTSA # 10055321. This week will be 3 times in the last 3 weeks. I don't know how this is not a recall. Ford themselves said it happens on like every Escape.
Driving when suddenly check engine light flashed, battery light, and oil light all blinked after which engine was running but unable to accelarate. Was able to pull off to side of road placed in park again tried to rev engine nothing happened. Turned car off then turned back on and car ran as usual check engine light remains on taking to dealership tomorrow.
Going to left turn lane. No responce from accelerater. Engine still running. Switched of, then switched back on. Car running again. Got home, it switched of again. Then same as 1st time.
For the past 2 months my 2009 Ford Escape XLT has been jumping and shifting roughly, I thought it was transmission related despite that I flushed my transmission a little over 1 year ago. On 04/24/14 I was driving 60 mph cruise control on the highway and the cruise control cut off and my 2009 Ford Escape XLT began to lose speed, I notice when the 18-wheeler behind me was approaching my bumper rapidly, nearly rear ended me - had to coast 2 lanes over to get to on coming exit to avoid rear ending due to heavy traffic. My SUV would not re-start until the throttle control/powertrain light cut off however the engine light remains on. I had to coast lanes of a busy highway with 8 am traffic to the exit ramp and stopped in the middle of the street and was stranded until my SUV started again.
Slowing down to turn right on adjacent street, the Ford Escape stalled and power loss ensued shortly thereafter.
2009 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. The consumer stated when he took the vehicle to the dealer, for a regularly scheduled oil change, he was shocked to hear he needed brake pads and rotors. A week later, the vehicle had to be towed to the repair, to have the transmission replaced at a cost of $3,400.
Vehicle loses power when accelerating from a stop. Additionally, while traveling at a steady speed (usually between 30-45 mph) the vehicle power flucuates between surging and losing power. The vehicle has stalled when coming to a stop becuase of this flucuation. Also, the transmission shifts irregularly. The rpms rev excessively high, then the transmission jerks the vehicle when shifting. This happens the most between first, second, and third gear. The dealership stated there is a malfunction in the variable timing of the engine. They want to open the engine to try and find the problem without knowing what they are looking for. This issue started when the vehicle was purchased with 44,000 miles. They dealership did not have any appointments available until the vehicle exceeded 60,000 miles due to conflict of schedule and long commute times. Then they refused to honor the warranty. The vehicle has been to the dealerahip several times in the last couple years with no resolution to the transmission problems. I have almost been in several accidents from the vehicle stalling or losing power when accelerating.
Accelerating from a traffic stop. Taking a right turn, car rumbled and could not accelerate. Car went from 5mph and drop down to 3mph, the wrench light went on. Stopped at side of road and engine still running. Drove a little more and engine still rumbling and would not accelerate.
This was the third incident, vehicle stops running for no apparent reason, wrench light illuminates. . . Power lost in engine. After stop, engine sometimes starts, sometimes requires longer wait time to start. . . Vehicle still under 5 year 50 k warranty, taken to Ford dealership. . . . They want $ 440 to fix the problem. . . . Before someone gets killed in this vehicle.
I own a 2009 Ford Escape. While traveling at various speeds, the vehicle loses power and the wrench light comes on. Accelerator pedal pushed, but no response. Shut down vehicle and restarted car driven without incident, until it happened again 2 days later.
I was driving on the highway at about 60 mph when the engine lost power. The speed drastically dropped to less than 5 mph and nothing happened when I pushed the accelerator. I was luckily able to coast to the shoulder, where I put the car in park and restarted it. Upon restarting the car it drove normally. This happened again about 3 weeks later when I was driving about 25 mph. However, this time the wrench light went on and when I turned the car off and back on the light went away.
Driving along, engine loses power, car is jerking, wrench light comes on, idles quickly. Coasted off side of road. Turn car off, turned back on - wrench light off - drive away as if nothing happened. Drive for another couple hours, same thing. This has happened quite a few times in the past 2 weeks.
I was on hov lane on lie driving to my parents. As I was coming off to reg lane, my engine stalled. Fortunately, the other car was far away able to stop. I changed gear into park and restarted the car.
While driving steady at 50+ mph on an interstate, there was slight on again/off again hesitation while keeping constant pressure on the gas pedal. Without warning, the engine seemed to lose all power, and forced me to coast to the side of the road. A 'wrench' warning light appeared on my dashboard system, and while the engine had not stalled, it was running very low and rough. I again tried to apply pressure to the gas pedal and it was completely unresponsive. I turned the vehicle off, waited a few seconds and restarted it. It ran as if there was nothing wrong, and there were no more warning icons showing on the dashboard. It ran without issue for another 15 minutes on the highway, until it again lost all engine power, and this time the engine warning light came on instead of the wrench icon. Restarting it let me drive a few more miles to reach my home.
While driving on Monday 11/18/13 my wife was stopping then went to accelerate and the vehicle stalled. Upon turning it off it restarted just fine. This happen 3 more times from then to Tuesday evening. I drove it to work Wednesday 11/20/13 and while accelerating on to hwy 94 the vehicle stalled. It did hesitate upon restarting but started and ran. Wednesday evening on our way home doing approx 30mph the vehicle stalled and again hesitated to start but did and ran ok. Thursday morning 11/21/13 while on my way to work I was at cruising speed doing approx 60mph on hwy 94 the vehicle stalled. It hesitated to restart again but started after leaving the vehicle off for a few seconds.
Traveling at approx 5-10 miles an hour. Pulling out of stop sign. Vehicle without warning felt like it stalled. Could not accelerate. I coasted to curb and put in park. A warning light on dashboard showed a yellow wrench. I turned car off. Waited 30 seconds. Started and light was off, car normal. Took to dealer. Diagnostic code said electronic throttle. Did not have fixed immediately. Next day did it two times in less than five miles. Now engine light on second time of occurrence. I am afraid to drive. Could be on highway. Could pull out in front of on coming cars and it stalls. Get broadsided.
While driving the vehicle lost power and wrench light came on. When came to a stop the vehicle ran rough at idle and surged. Car taken immediately to Ford and they misdiagnosed. After that it continued to do it multiple times on city streets and interstates. The car would have no power and the engine would not accelerate when I would step on gas. Had to shut the engine off and restart to make anything work. After that I took it to Ford again. This time they replaced throttle body-air intake and also throttle body and motor assembly.
Vehicle suddenly lost power and slowed down. Symptoms match what others report to be a bad throttle body which Ford has changed design of. Has happened twice now. Ford says we have to pay for this repair but it sounds like it should be a recall.
I was making a left hand turn and as I was turning my car slowed down to 1-2 mph I drove it just long enough to get to a safe place (less then 100 feet) and as I drove the car jerked. When I put it in park the car shook so I turned it off. The light that came on was the throttle/powertrain.
While driving at approximately 15 mph while making a left hand turn my 2009 Ford Escape stalled without any warning signs. Engine restarted immediately. About 20 minutes later while coming to a stop to put the vehicle in reverse the engine stalled again. Engine restarted immediately again.
On Friday, November 1, I was driving to work when suddenly the Escape failed to accelerate. The wrench light appeared. I coasted to the right turn lane then stopped. Turned the Escape off, waited a few seconds and then tried starting it. It started but the entire vehicle shook. I was able to get the Escape to crawl to a parking lot. I turned it back off and waited a few minutes longer. After about ten minutes, I tried starting it and it seemed to run just fine. On Monday, November 4, I had a repeat of this. We had the repair shop tow it in, fearing that it would die in traffic and cause an accident. The car dealer says it was the throttle body.
Vehicle lost power up steep hill almost resulting in rolling backwards down hill. Car had previously and intermittently lost power surge when accelerating onto highway into a merge situation.
I was traveling at approximately 65 mph when my vehicle slightly lunged forward then I lost all speed control. My speed dropped rapidly and I was unable to use my gas pedal. I was able to roll to a safe place to call and wait for a tow truck. My owner's manual indicated the warning light (wrench) meant there was a throttle control/powertrain failure and to contact a dealership right away. I had my vehicle towed to the nearest dealership. I was contacted the following day that the diagnosis was the throttle body had to be replaced and that my extended warranty plan, millennium, which I purchased through Ford motor company, was not covering the repair because they categorized that part under "emissions. " that is ridiculous. After additional research I have found numerous websites indicating this throttle body issue has been brought to Ford's attention and they have yet to issue a recall. I also found that there was a recall for this part on the 2010 Ford freestyle. . . . Why aren't they taking care of this problem for the rest of us? it's a real problem! this repair and subsequent need for a rental car has cost me almost $600 and I'm sure I am not alone, based on what I've read in the past few days.
