1 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2015

Driving car home after work - slowed down and stopped after traffic light change. Pressed on accelerator and car shuddered would not accelerate. The wrench light came on and the car went into limp home mode. Turned into parking lot and shut down and restarted engine. The engine rpm suddenly went to about 7000 rpm with the no push of the accelerator. Engine eventually normalized and I was able to drive it the rest of the way home. My husband test drove the vehicle and the same thing happened to him with the car going non responsive into limp home mode. He troubleshot the issue to the throttle body. After removing the throttle body, cleaning it, and recalibrating , the issue disappeared. He is going to replace the part for safety since this issue happening at highway speed could become dangerous.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2015

Slowing down in my Ford Escape the transmission intermediately down shifts so hard that it shakes my car and makes a loud noise. Have brought to the dealership 4 times and are not able to duplicate the intermediate problem. First time they reset some sort of chip in the transmission and it helped for only a short while. It does not happen all the time and is intermediate, the dealership does not drive it long enough to duplicate the problem.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the transmission warning light illuminated as the vehicle began to shake. The shut the vehicle off and once restarted, it functioned properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 34,824.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2013

Driving in the center lane of a 3-lane highway I heard a loud "thunk" from the engine compartment & felt the vehicle suddenly slowing down. When I stepped on the accelerator, I felt no response & looked at the dash to see the wrench light on. I looked over to make sure the gear shift was still in drive, thinking maybe it has slipped into neutral. I stepped on the accelerator again - nothing. Vehicle had a strong shaking/vibration I was able to coast to the shoulder out of traffic. I shut the car off & was able to able to restart without the wrench light coming on again. I will be taking the car to Ford dealer to be checked because "stalling" on a major highway is not something I want to experience again. Hope they fix this problem!!!!.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

I was driving down I-80 at 65 mph and all of a sudden I had no power with my gas pedal and my engine light (wrench) came on. My car was still running, but when I pressed the gas pedal it did nothing. I pulled off to the side of the road and called for road assistance. Sitting there my rpm's was around 1,000 and my car would shake. While waiting for a tow truck, I shut my car off and then started it again. When I pressed on the gas it started to go again. However, when I tried to get back on the interstate I had no power again and my engine light came back on. I had my car towed to a Ford dealership and they checked it and they said that the throttle body was the problem.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

I was driving on the interstate at 65 mph when my 2011 Ford Escape began to decelerate rapidly. I tried giving it gas but even with the gas petal pushed down all the way it still wouldn't accelerate at all. I had to pull over in the emergency lane so I wasn't hit by the car behind me. When I came to a stop the vehicle was shaking and I noticed that a flashing wrench light was displayed. I turned the vehicle off for a minute and then restarted it with no problems. I called the dealership because it's still under warranty and they told me to bring it in and they would take a look at it.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

My first incident occurred on Friday, August 30, 2013. I lost power and acceleration with absolutely no warning at all. I observed that the wrench light was on and noticed that the car was shuddering. I turned the ignition all the way off and sat for a minute and turned the car back on. It started fine and I immediately took the car to a mechanic nearby. I left the car for 4 days while out of town and the mechanic informed me upon my return that they were unable to diagnose the problem or repeat the problem, so I retrieved my car hoping that it was just a one time incident. The same occurrence happened twice more on September 6, 2013; this time in rush hour traffic and it was in very hazardous and unsafe conditions. I was able to coast to the side of the road and turn the car off without further incident. I'm surprised that Ford has not already issued a recall on this particular problem. Someone could get hurt and this vehicle is very unsafe with this potential power train problem. I took it upon myself to do some research and I see complaints on other Ford models and the Escape as far back as 2008. Shame on Ford. I will be taking the car to a Ford service dealer on Monday, August 9, 2013. I love the Escape (this is my second one) and have purchased nothing but Ford products. I will seriously consider another make for my next vehicle purchase. Ford should absolutely do the right thing and issue a recall.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2013

I was making a right turn as I straighten out my car from the turn my car lost power. I had my foot on the gas but wasn't going forward and the vehicle was shaking really bad. The ironic thing is I felt a tug here and there before but I thought I was being paranoid. I don't think I was!!! thank goodness I had turned out of traffic. I didn't want to turn it on again I remembered I had a tow card from when I bought my vehicle. If this is some defect I need to know. I had my last vehicle for 11 years and never did something like this happen. I bought a new car so that I don't get stranded and I did get stranded. I had it towed to maxwell Ford after they tested it today I was told it was the throttle body.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2012

While traveling 80mph on the interstate, my 2011 Ford Escape with 27000 miles suddenly lost power as a wrench indicator light came on the dashboard. The gas pedal would not accelerate to pull onto shoulder or to move around traffic. All fuel acceleration was lost. As I finally coasted to the shoulder, narrowly avoiding being the cause of multiple accidents, the vehicle starting shaking. I turned the car off, waited a few minutes, and turned the car back on. The wrench indicator light (powertrain indication) remained off and the vehicle acted normal. There was not an indication before or after the incident of any faulty systems or parts. The vehicle did this without any reason, leaving me in a dangerous situation. The vehicle has been properly maintained and running without any problems since I purchased the vehicle until this incident. I fear it may happen again without reason and place my life and those of my passengers in harms' way.
