Check engine light on when driving and when parked and engine running and smell of raw gas fumes near left rear wheel area. Shop tested found code p0456 traced to cracked and leaking electric fuel pump. Replaced pump now ok . In checking I found there was a recall #16s41 for 2012 Escape with v6 engine , my car is a 4 cyl . Not incl. In recall but produced in same production sequence production date 8-11 sales date 11-19-2011 the above recall was for leaking fuel pump . I believe my car should have been recalled also . I contacted dealer they referred me to Ford CO. Filed case #cas-21767319 on 5-29-19 Ford said no recall ,sorry no help with repair bill . I believe this should have been recalled as a safety hazard also covered under emission warranty 8 yeas or 80,000 miles I wrote to dealer 9-12-2019 no response car had 79. 795 at time of repair. I still have the car and the defective fuel pump if inspection is required. This condition was on public street and private property moving and stationary. My car could have been involved in a fire if the cause of the fuel leak wasn't detected.
Upon leaving work on July 31st 2018 I noticed an odd smell as I approached my 2012 Ford Escape limited. Upon getting closer to the car I noticed the smell was gas. I was alarmed thinking my vehicle may not start or could possibly explode if I tried. When opening the door the smell was unbearable. After calling my son he said that there was a recall for my generation Ford for a cracking fuel pump. He said it will be safe to start but will be leaking gas everywhere so keep an eye on the gauge. After starting the car I noticed that the gas level was almost 1/2 a tank lower than when I arrived just 8 hours before. I rolled all four windows down and drove the car the shop I've been visiting and trust. They took my vehicle in on August 1st 2018 and said that they will look into it. After diagnosing the problem they discovered it that the fuel pump was cracked. With only 31,000 miles. After attempting to reach the dealer and the Ford customer service program they told me that the vehicle is not covered under the recall issued by NHTSA. This vehicle seems to fall in every category other than a seven month difference on the build number. Ford said that they are unable to assist me in recovering my money for a recall that is on the same year make model and trim level.
Takata recall- had a recall on the fuel delivery module flange replaced and having issues starting , long cranking issues. Ford dealer refused to believe that the technician didn't install it properly. Never had an issue with my vehicle with only 50,000 miles on it until after the recall was performed. I believe the technician improperly installed the part and now every time I start my vehicle it has long cranking issues. I'm worried it might mess with my starter or fuel pump.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the dealer (walker Ford, 17556 us highway 19 n, clearwater, FL 33764) stated that Ford was not performing repairs for NHTSA campaign number: 16v777000 (fuel system, gasoline) because it caused an issue with the fuel pump. The dealer stated that no more of these recalls would be repaired until Ford agreed to pay for a fuel pump. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Driving and car went into power failure mode and wrench displayed on dash display. Found paperwork about throttle body safety recall. Decided to have safety recall 16s41 fuel module done also since it was going in for work. On sept 5, 2017 took to keystone Ford chambersburg 717-264-5104. After both repairs done I was starting car to leave- had very long crank time. Had service person come out to hear and he said" sounds like your starters going bad". Left Ford and car continued with long crank times- never had this problem before they worked on it. Took back on sept 8,2017- they found nothing but said I needed new fuel pump $700. 00. I complained because they had worked on the fuel pump and then it went bad!! clayton black offered me to do the fiel pump for $509 and no cost for labor. Also if not fixed don't have to pay for work done. Went to parson's interstate Ford shippensburg for 2nd opinion. They said they could do the fuel pump for $474 which included labor! when parson's removed the fuel pump they said a ring was loose and would have eventually leaked gas- would have been dangerous. Keystone didn't have it on correctly! I want keystone to pay for the fuel pump repair they caused the damage to- $499.
While driving uphill on a bridge on a city street at 40 mph engine suddenly quit and all dashboard lights came on. No previous dashboard warning lights before shut down. Coasted to a parking lot. Engine would turn over but not start. Had car towed to dealer. Fortunately no traffic at time, but if I had been on expressway or in heavy traffic the result could have been wrecks and fatalities. Dealer said it was a fuel pump problem. I attached the repair report with personal info hidden. This needs to be a recall before some gets injured as could be very dangerous if occurs in heavy traffic.
