1 Storage Evaporative Emissions Canister problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2026

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to immediately start-up after refueling the vehicle. The accelerator pedal needed to be depressed to the floorboard before the vehicle would start-up. Additionally, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate after starting the vehicle. The check engine light illuminated several weeks after the initial failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed, and the contact was informed that the canister solenoid was inoperable. The canister solenoid was repair; however, the failure returned immediately after refueling the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and a dtc was retrieved. The failure was related to an inoperable oxygen sensor which was connected to the purge valve. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer and it was confirmed that the canister purge valve was inoperable. The contact attempted to contact the manufacturer but never received a response. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

2 Storage Evaporative Emissions Canister problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal humming sound coming from the passenger’s side rear of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated; however, a message to turn off and restart the vehicle was displayed. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was started; however, the steering wheel was locked. The message to turn off and restart was displayed again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed purge valve. The contact was informed that the purge valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

3 Storage Evaporative Emissions Canister problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2023

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the warranty had expired. The contact was advised to call the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
