Body problems of the 2021 Ford Escape - part 2

The six spot welds on the driver's door failed. The hinge bracket is adrift inside the car door. Al packer Ford body shop advised this is a common flaw in the 2021 Ford Escapes.

The door has spot wells I believe 6 total. 2 of them so far have come undone. It is the welds for the bracket that keeps the door from flying open.

The door stop arm welds broke on drivers side door. I cannot roll down window because of this failure on Ford's part.

Door is cracking only at 38k miles and the thing pops when I open and shut it on drivers side sounds like it’s going to fall right off.

Passenger door hitch weld came off. I can’t open the door all the way and the window can’t be open. .

Day after purchase of car, door was making noise. Took it to location Ford dealer only to be told it's the door check welds and it's $3k+ to replace the entire door. It's gotten so bad, I have to force door to shut.

On the drivers side door, all of the rivets / welding have broken off creating a cracking / breaking sound every time the door opens. The door also will not stay open on its own, and often times will not open completely.

Went to get in my 2021 Ford Escape opened the door a heard a metal sound clunking noise. Happened all of a sudden. Thought maybe someone hit my door but no sign of it being hit. Then googled Ford Escape and that noise and found this has been a problem. Why has there not been a recall for this problem.

This is 1 of 3 2020 - 2021 Ford Escapes that my company owns and is affected by this known issue with NHTSA and Ford motor company as it relates to Ford technical service bulletin (TSB) ssm 50150. The spot welds at the check arm attachment points on the driver door have failed. This has lead to a horrible noise and feeling when opening and closing our door. Sometimes the door does not shut all the way making this a safety issue. The door is now hard to open and close. The window is also inoperable as it either won't roll down at all or, if it does roll down, it will now roll back up. This issue has been inspected by 2 dealerships and they are not allowing our premiumcare extended warranty to cover this. We have had 10's of Escapes with 100,000+ miles and this has never been an issue. This has occurred in this 2021 Escape and 2 of our other 2020 Ford Escapes (I will file complaints separately for them so NHTSA understands this is a massive issue Ford needs to fix ASAP and reimburse any customers who have paid out of pocket to get this fixed). Nhtsa needs to issue a recall immediately.

Drivers door is making a creaking/popping sound and sometimes won’t close. The window will not always go up.

Drivers side front door check arm attachment points separated. Door malfunctioning which renders window inoperable. Ford service indicated only recourse is a replacement of the full door assembly. There was no incident of over opening the door!.

2021 Escape with 61,000 miles and normal use (commuting for work). The driver door check arm welds have failed causing a crunching noise when opening and closing. Ford dealership says it's not a warranty repair and refuses to fix the problem. There are two ssm/tsbs regarding this problem ssm 51553 and ssm 50150. Problem is causing the driver window to not operate.

The front door hinge spot weld and rivets have broekn loose. I called stivers Ford in montgomery alabama and the service representative told me that my Escape was out of warranty and it was my problem to repair. I do not think this is fair as this is a structural problem in the door.

Driver front and passenger front door hinge making noise when opening. Dealer said a lot of people are having same issue but Ford is only fixing ones when door falls off when weld completely breaks. Reported this to dealer on11/11/23 and was finally notified to bring in last week. Was called yesterday and was told not fixing at this time as was not safety issue yet! they said if door falls off it would warrant repair. This vehicle is under new vehicle warranty still and should be fixed without question. Dealer agrees it needs fixed but says they cant do anything now. I consider a possible door falling off a safety issue! hopefully my wife does not fall out of vehicle when door falls off and maybe she can put it in back and drive to dealer with no door. Way to go Ford!.

My door all of a sudden started making loud cracking sounds when I tried to open it. This progressively got worse and now the door will only partially open and the window will not go down. I believe I have a broken spot weld in the left front door at the check arm attachment.

*corporate vehicle the check arm for our driver's side door appears to have separated from the frame. Our door feels like it may fall off. If our door falls off, we feel there are safety concerns (can list later if needed). Our story seems to corroborate many other complaints on this website.

Drivers side door is making a popping sound and piece on the inside part(plate?) of the door is moving when the door closes. Passenger side has the same part but it does not move or make noise.

Door started cracking. Next day door made a loud crack and my door would not shut. I had to take it to my garage because Ford manderbach Ford in hamburg PA would not cover it due to no recall. My garage put door back together and spot welded everything back together. My bill was $95.

Drivers door limiter broke away from the door creating an issue opening and closing the door. Also unable to roll the drivers window down very far.

The door check in the drivers door snapped after two years. Ford is not willing to take care of the situation but this is a known issue. Since this item has to do with the door and door latching, I do not feel comfortable driving my vehicle.

The door weld seems to have come off and causes the door to not latch properly and I cannot roll my window down this is a problem on both driver and passenger side. It appears there is a loose weld in the doors.

Upon opening the driver side door there was a pop. Every time the door has been opened to appx 50% full width the same popping noise occurs. The weld is popped in the hinge but this is not visible without taking the door apart. The door will close properly and the window works at this time.

The door check arm on the driver's side door weld broke. Before it happened, it would make a noise when closing before it broke. The dealer has confirmed it and wants to replace the whole door. I would be required to pay for it plus the painting of the door. I have found that this problem has happened before. This issue is a safety problem and should be a recall. There was no accident. This part was failing for 3 to 4 weeks. I had no clue the part was failing. The car is currently at the dealer.

The driver's side door suddenly made a large popping noise when I opened it one day. Since then, it continues to make this noise and sometimes won't close all the way. The driver's side window has also stopped working properly. It will go down just a couple of inches and stop - fortunately, it's been able to go back up but it seems to struggle so much to close that I just don't use it anymore on the chance that it won't go up at all. I looked online for suggestions and discovered that I am not the only one with this problem. I cannot afford to repair it, so I am just living with it and hope that it will close every time I use it. I am careful to make sure the door seems to be connected on the times it struggles to close properly so that it won't open while I'm driving. I can't use drive thrus anymore as the window doesn't work and the door is risky to close right. I see that an investigation has been opened and I would like to make you aware that I'm having the very same issue.

Door weld is broken in drivers door. Extended warranty with easycare will not cover it. It is a known issue with this vehicle. How do we get it fixed, without spending out of pocket to fix Ford's issue.

Most of the welds on the driver door bracket that holds the door latch mechanism have failed.

Drivers door bracket broken and makes ratcheting noise. Currie Ford in frankfort ill contacted and I was advised it will need a new door. Issue raised up to cover claim. Vehicle only has 40000 miles on it. See ssm 50150.

Front drivers side door suddenly started making crunching sound when opening. There was no damage, accident, warning or any other incident that proceeded it. It was working normally and then it wasn’t. It is a safety issue because the door doesn’t open fully and the window and door locks do also not work properly. Window will roll down but not up which makes it impossible to secure vehicle. Cannot open locked door with remote, must manually unlock from passenger side. Could be dangerous if needing to get in vehicle quickly. Was taken to Ford dealer who said door needed to be replaced but didn’t have a body shop and left it to us to figure out.
