1 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/29/2020

At times before acceleration, the accelerator gets stuck. The vehicle continues to go unless the brakes are applied. There have been times when I am in traffic and it has happened. The sticking happens either at a stop sign, traffic light, or simply just leaving out of a parking lot. Sometimes it may happen if I am coming out of a turn. Its scary when I am on a busy highway, street, or on/off ramp and there is other traffic speeding behind me. I can not identify the part that is causing this. It may have something to do with the speed control system of the vehicle. This happens quite often since I purchased the vehicle from a family member in July. Most recent was on 12/29/2020.

2 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/09/2019

I bought this vehicle used recently. This didn't happen until it got cold but, the gas pedal sticks when I am driving making it extremely hard to stop even if my vehicle had been warmed beforehand. The vehicle has done this more than once. The most notable ones were when I was driving to work on the highway. One time the vehicle was warmed and the other was not. Both times the gas pedal got stuck after I tried to accelerate and kept propelling me forward. Both times I had been driving.

4 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/23/2017

I have owned this Escape for only about 9 months. I have had many sporadic issues with the gas pedal. The gas pedal has stuck a few times and I have been unable to press down on the pedal. It seems to act up worse when the weather gets colder. I have had a few instances where I was driving and was unable to accelerate and had to put my vehicle in park and keep pressing down on the gas pedal until it finally allowed me to accelerate and move forward. When the pedal locks up it is like pressing against a wall and there is no give in the pedal but when it does finally press down it causes a high acceleration and cause the vehicle to launch forward. This is definitely a scary situation when you are in traffic and all of the sudden can't drive your car. Thankfully I have not been in any accidents because of this issue but I feel it is only a matter of time unless this issue is fixed. After doing a bit of research I see that there are many other people who have had similar issues with this make. It is very unsafe and I am always worried about being stranded or having this cause an accident. As a mother of a 4 year old this is definitely a scary issue to have! I love my Escape and would love to keep it but I do not feel safe driving it like this. I hope that this issue is being looked into after seeing other complaints about this problem and I hope that this issue can be resolved!.

5 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

1) accelerator pedal sticks in an upward position cannot push down to accelerate as if it is frozen. After about a half hour pushing with my foot it will releases. When stopped the pedal stick again but will release but vehicle goes in a jerking motion because it is trying to stick again this happens upon being parked or driving in the city or country it happens whenever I need to accelerate. It has started doing this within the past month but as of 11/10/17 it was completely stuck in the up position and not budging 2) electrical issues- when lights are on or anything inside the vehicle lightsaber are flickering and become slightly dim.

6 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/17/2017

Gas pedal getting stuck/not working off and on for last year; gasket was replaced, now recently sticking again. Today, was on arterial when pedal stuck, luckily no traffic as for several minutes vehicle would not move. Got pedal unstuck after several tries and lifting with toe, so was able to get home. Car in shop now. Dangerous!.

7 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2007 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/30/2017

Recently the accelerator pedal stuck on my 2007 Ford Escape and I had to run into a curb to stop the vehicle, ity caused about $1500 damage to the car. No personnel injuries were caused. I had to run the car into a curb to keep from rear ending another vehicle.

8 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/11/2017

The accelerator pedal sticks often and requires extra foot manipulation to get it to work properly. This occurs mostly when accelerating from a stop and makes pulling out into traffic a dangerous proposition. This occurs on city streets and from stop lights on larger state highways. It has also failed to depress, causing the vehicle to be immovable for a time.

9 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/25/2016

The gas pedal will get stuck down. The vehicle will stall. I would have to use my foot to try to lift the acceleration pedal up. Sometimes it would pop into place quickly while other times, I had to keep lifting it up with my foot. This happened while on the freeway and other cars were coming full speed behind me, but I was unable to get the vehicle back in motion in a speedy manner. This has occurred early morning, midday, and night. It has been on the city street and the highway. I researched and saw that Ford had a recall for 2001 - 2004 for the throttle body issue which is due to the sticking acceleration pedal. When I went to Ford, they said that my VIN was not included in the recall nor the consumer appreciation for certain models although it was the exact same issue. My vehicle is a 2005 Ford Escape. The mechanic said that there were many cars that came in with this issue, but the sales woman pretended as if she never heard of the issue. I paid almost $1,000 to fix an issue that other vehicles had fixed in a recall.

10 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/14/2016

In 2016 November my gas pedal stuck to the floor and I freaked out and ran into my neighbors garage and I had 10 fired fighters and sherriff look at my turned off Escape and the accelerated pedel was completely sitting on the floor of the vehicle and it also was towed to Ford and said the accelerator pedal link was completely broke and it was not covered under insurance for they said this is a manufacture issue and not insurance and so I had to use the front end damage to pay for the $1500 repair on a part that should not have broke, Ford has now over 100 complaints to this say problem and no fix. . . . . This vehicle accelerated and rammed a neighbors garage door and I could have been killed and all the sheriff and firefighters say they have never seen an accelerator pedal depressed to the floor and I was lucky. . . . Ford fix this. . . . This is going to kill someone and it I had injuries from the whiplash.

11 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

First cold morning the gas pedal stuck after 5 miles. No movement. I was in the left lane & had to cross other lanes to safety. My wife refuses to drive this car. Dealer says throttle body issues on other Escapes are covered by a 10 year/150,000 mile warranty.

12 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/30/2016

My friend borrowed my 06 Ford Escape, which had not shown any mechanical issues. Shortly after getting on the interstate hwy, the gas pedal stuck to the floor and rapidly excellerated to 85 mph plus, without warning. It is a 6 lane hwy and was Saturday. Putting the vehicle in neutral and using both the brake and the e brake, while trying to maneuver traffic to get to the shoulder, as a tractor trailer rig was barreling by unaware. This was an extremely dangerous situation. It is miraculous that no one was hurt. The brakes smoked and the fire department was called as a precaution. It had to be towed. Upon researching further, we discovered all the complaints about the throttle body problems. I am disappointed that there have been no warnings about this issue. Will someone have to die, before any actions are taken? it seems as though prevention would go further, rather than reacting to only the extremes of death and dismemberment. I am suggesting that Ford take a proactive position here and notify Ford Escape owners. Fix the issue!!!.

13 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

Accelerator pedal sticking, intermittently not working.

14 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

Purchased a 2008 Ford Escape new in 2008 and have had it worked on 3 different times for the accelerator sticking caused by the throttle body. It was never replaced. Now because I have 116000 miles on it I just got taken advantage of. Once again the accelerator stuck and luckily I was able to pull over and hold the brake and shut it off. I paid $110 to tow it to a Ford dealership. Well now it is going to cost me $1000 to replace the throttle body. This should have been done previously and now it seems to be on me or risk being killed due to this safety issue. Even if it was never issued as a recall item I have had issues with this since purchasing it new in 2008. I want something done. I did call Ford mtr CO and was told they could not help me because the vehicle has over 100000 miles on it. Well if it had been handled even once in the past 3 times it could have gotten me killed then it would not be an issue now.

15 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

Accelerator sticking in neutral position. Mechanics can't find whats wrong and its very likely to cause an accident. I have read many articles that this is common in older models.

16 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/20/2015

I received my Escape as a birthday gift two years ago. On several occasions since my gas pedal stops working and I have been unable to press it down, it won't go. This has happened while on city streets and on interstates. On a couple of occasions I have been able to pull over or off the road, put it in park, turn off the engine, restart my car and get it going again. I have tried pounding on the gas and that does nothing, it won't budge. I have no idea when this will happen, so I cannot just expect it to, it happens, day or night, hot or cold temperature, driving down a straight highway or turning on a city street. I am afraid it will happen while I am driving in the snow or while one of my kids are driving it. I have tried explaining to them what to do, but of all the things they need to worry about while driving, the gas pedal sticking should not be one of them.

17 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2007 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/13/2015

The gas pedal would stick intermittently, and more pressure needed to be applied to the pedal in order to get the car to accelerate. At one point the gas pedal completely stuck, and I was not able to accelerate the car at all on the highway, forcing me to pull the car over to the side of the road and turn it off to be towed. A mechanic was able to confirm this issue is caused by a malfunction in the throttle body. Ford previously recalled throttle body's in Escapes from 2009-2012, but my car is 2007 and does not apply. However, because it is experiencing the same malfunction, and has serious safety implication, I believe the 2007 Ford Escape model should be added to Fords current consumer satisfaction program 13n03.

18 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

2008 Ford Escape had the recall done for the power steering in September then in November I had everything checked because my gas pedal got stuck. Then I got the readout they gave me a list of all of the problems that were wrong with my vehicle which nothing appeared when they did the recall the torque sensor was one of them something that they should have replaced but told me since it didn't read at the time the software was the only thing that they could do and I had to pay for it now. Now in February the power steering went back in to manual they will not fix it at the dealership they tell me to call Ford. Ford tells me that there's nothing that they can do that there's an independent company that handles recalls the dealership tells me to call Ford so from September till now I put about 5000 miles on the vehicle I don't think I should have to pay for this the only thing I can think of is to take them to court along with Ford motor company I don't understand how they can find so many things wrong with my vehicle now when they had to do a diagnostic check and check the entire vehicle and did not find anything wrong at that time. All they did was software update I dropped it off and had it back in one hour and two months later they want me to pay for all these things wrong with my vehicle when I definitely suspect that everything was wrong with it at the time they just don't want to pay for anything and I definitely feel like the government should go after them.

20 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Ehicles gas pedal gets stuck up and cannot be depressed at all while car is on and I am driving. It happened this week several times on very cold days. While driving or while stopped at light and trying to go I cannot depressed the pedal, even when pushing hard. Eventually it depressed for me after several tries. Vehicle gas pedal has also gotten stuck down twice previously with car accelerating uncontrollably, which happened for almost a minute then it popped up - resulted in near collision { thank goodness its a manual transmission]. I have read in many on-line discussion boards of many other individuals having their gas pedal on Ford Escapes stick up or down also.

21 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

When I would try to accelerate whether from a stopped position or already in motion my gas pedal sticks. I'm unable to press it down and I lose speed. Each time I press the gas pedal or brake pedal I hear a pop. I was trying to merge onto the highway and it suddenly wouldn't let me accelerate for a few minutes. This is very dangerous and frightening. It also does this if I'm already in motion of if I try to accelerate from a stopped position. I fear for my life and the life of my family. I take my husband to work an hour away, this is terrifying and unacceptable. I also transport my children to their jobs and schools. Please help before someone gets killed.

22 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

"stuck gas pedal": as I was driving to work in moderately heavy traffic on us 127 in michigan at approximately 8 a. M. , on 10 October 2014, the gas pedal froze on my (manual transmission) 2008 Ford Escape and I began to lose speed quickly from the 70 mph I had been traveling. The pedal would not move up or down no matter how hard I pushed or pulled at it. I tried kicking it as best as I could but it would not budge, and the floor mat was not near the pedal at all. I had to maneuver to the shoulder of the road and continued 'coasting' while I tried to get the pedal to move. The area I was at was not conducive to a full stop unless absolutely necessary due to the clearance on the side of the road and the curve I was on. My speed had dropped to less than 55 mph when the gas pedal finally released and I was able to push it down to increase my speed again and eventually work back into traffic, though with caution in case it happened again as I was still not in an area safe for a full stop. The temperature at that time was around freezing. I took the Escape to the Ford dealer and they said no codes appeared when scanned so there was nothing to indicate it had happened. They also told me that neither my vehicle, nor the throttle assembly in it are listed as part of the recall for "sticky accelerator pedal" for Ford Escapes. This is a 2008 manual transmission, 4 cy. , 4-door, 2wd Escape. Why was it not included in the recall? I've had problems with the gas pedal 'catching' and then immediately releasing since we bought it (at about 16000 miles), but the dealer could never duplicate the problem and thus did nothing about it. My online research indicates this "frozen" or "stuck" pedal (where the pedal will not depress at all) is not a new issue and across all model years, yet nothing has been done by Ford and they refuse to acknowledge it.

23 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

I was decelerating to a red light, when my accelerator depressed and stuck to the floor on it's own, I had to shut the ignition off and coast into the gas station to get the vehicle to come too a stop. I took it to andy mohr Ford and was told it needs a new electronic throttle body, which is a 600. 00 repair. I bought my Escape used so there is no warranty nor could I afford this repair. I researched the issue and found a recall for the electronic throttle body, but was told by andy mohr, the recall doesn't apply to my specific build. I then contacted Ford corporate and opened a claim with them, I was told they would take care of it ( because it's a manufactures defect and a safety issue )and was referred back to andy mohr this time I spoke with the customer service manager and told the sane thing, that because I don't have a warranty,, the repair isn't coveted and I'm therefore responsible for the cost of repair. This can't be right or legal, this problem poses a safety risk to myself and my family as well as my fellow drivers I could potentially hurt or kill when this accelerator decides to depress and stick again.

24 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck and the vehicle accelerated. As a result, the contact crashed into a tree. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

25 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated the while she drove at 35 mph the accelerator pedal stick to the floor board. The accelerator pedal had to be depressed several times to release the pedal. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage were 48,000.

26 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

Upon putting car into gear, the gas pedal would not cause the car to accelerate. Car had no propulsion. Important to note that the gas pedal had seemed to stick before this incident. Ford motor CO. Refuses to cover the cost of fixing this problem, even though they have known about this issue for some time. This car was bought for my 17 yr old daughter. She did not happen to be driving at the time of the incident thankfully because she would not have known what to do in this circumstance.

27 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

Whenever the outside temperature dips below freezing, my gas pedal will suddenly get stuck and the car coasts to a stop and will just sit there idling. The first time it happened I was able to "stomp" on the pedal and it freed up, that is no longer the case. When the temperature dips into the 20's it is even worse and will get stuck, eventually free up and be fine. . . . Unless I then enter highway speeds, it will do it again. I have found that warming the car several extra minutes seems to eliminate the problem at slower 35mph speeds. However, upon entering highway speeds, even after warming the vehicle for ten minutes, it will get stuck after several minutes of travel at highway speed. It will free up after coasting to the side of the freeway and sitting for several minutes with car idling, but can then get stuck yet again after several minutes at highway speeds. This creates extremely deadly situations! I called Ford and they said there is no recall for this vehicle and I also went to the local Ford dealer they claim to have never heard of this problem and have no idea what could cause it.

28 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

The gas pedal is getting stuck and not working properly especially during times when the weather gets cold. When gas pedal is pressed to moved vehicle forward the pedal gets extremely difficult to press down and vehicle doesn't move. Once it does work it jerks the vehicle forward in which if another car is in front this could cause an accident.

29 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

While driving, I went to accelerate, but the gas pedal was stuck in the idle position - like it froze up. I stepped on the gas pedal a few times until it loosened up. This has happened multiple times in the past few years about once every 2 months and typically on colder days less than 32 degrees f. After a throttle body cleanout by a licensed mechanic, it got worse. I looked on line for reviews on 2006 Ford Escapes, and saw that many, many other Ford Escape owners have had the same problem. There are currently no recalls on the throttle body, but this is the common problem.

30 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2003 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

Accelerator stuck causing driver to lose control and go off road into a building.

31 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

Gas pedal sticks and when you push it, the vehicle will not go. After pumping it a few times, the car goes forward very fast. When pushing the gas pedal, you don't know if the car will not move or if it will lurch forward.

32 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

Gas pedal sticks whenever temperature falls below freezing. Had issues since car was new in 2006, but this week issue is much worse. Normally you can push hard on the gas pedal and get it to work. This week I have to wait for the car to warm up before I can drive, the gas pedal will not budge. I've read other complaints that this is a faulty throttle body and would like to know what Ford plans to do about it.

33 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph down hill, the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact stated the accelerator pedal became stuck. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and continued to push on the accelerator to release the pedal. The pedal was released but the failure soon recurred. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer, who stated that the throttle body failed and caused the accelerator pedal to stick. The dealer stated the throttle body needed to be replaced. The contact did not have the throttle replaced. The failure mileage was 156,884.

34 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2012 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/08/2013

I have a 2012 Ford Escape limited. The first incident happened while I was on the freeway. The little wrench light came on and the car was stuck in idle. After pulling over and putting it in park, I tried to rev it up but it wouldn't rev. I turned the car off and waited a few seconds then cranked it up. It started up and when into gear. The second time it happened, I was turning onto another street. It happened two days later. I did the same thing. That same night, it happened to me two more times on the way home from work. The last time, not only did my car do it again, but this time it acted like it was trying to kick in gear so it was jerking forward. I then put it in neutral and it just idled but would not rev up. So I turned it off and back on again and put it into gear and it went. I've taking it in to get looked at and a few different people are telling me its the same thing, the accelerator or throttle is sticking. And that its a throttle body malfunction. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed. I bought my car brand new so I wouldn't have to deal with car repairs. I've had my Escape for only a year and I already have to do repairs on it.

35 Accelerator Stuck problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

The gas pedal sticks some time, both when starting out and or trying to accelerate. The gas pedal sticks and if you apply a little more pressure it then kind of click past the place where it sticks, often causing the engine to race. It is uncomfortable trying to start-up in traffic, or keeping a constant speed, as the pedal seems to have that resistance just when you need to give it just a little gas, but suddenly you have given it too much in overcoming the sticking. It actually started at about 30,000 miles, and seems to get worse when it is colder.
