Started to work one morning, have a manual trans after driving about 13 miles went to shift into 4th the accelerator would not move. After several attempts it finally broke free and I continued to work w/o incident. Since then it happens on a weekly basis different times of the day and diff temps no rhyme or reason. Researched and found many other with the same problem. This morning was different. I was only 4 miles from home and the accelerator was stuck again. I was only in 2nd gear, I pushed on the accelerator hard it broke loose but this time it got stuck while almost to the floor and the car took off spinning tires. There was not much I could do but put the clutch in shift to neutral. When I finally stopped the accelerator was stuck again so that I could not accelerate and now my clutch was gone. It is now not drivable. So very very dangerous. Does there need to be a fatality for something to be done?.

Accelerator pedal sticks upon attempting to accelerate. This problem has been on and off for the last six months, but has worsened. Last incident (12/14/13) pedal completely stuck to floor. Contacted dealer and was advised of a $70 diagnostic fee and deductible. Prior to this incident from August 2011 to August 2013 experienced three incidents of steering column locking, column did not respond to keys, keys would not unlock doors manually or with clicker, and ignition switch would not turn when key is inserted. Dealer replaced steering column (2011), but problem returned on two separate occasions within two years. On last two visits to dealer regarding ignition problem - dealer could not verify problem existed and deemed the battery as problem. Dealer replaced my newly installed battery (less than a year old) with their battery without my consent and required me to pay for unapproved battery - which I had them to remove, and reinstall my original battery that worked fine. Called on Ford dealer on 12/16/13 regarding incident of pedal sticking, and received head wrenching response. Was informed that my car was not on the list for recalls eventhough Ford just paid a hefty $17+ million fine for not recalling these Fords for sticking gas pedals!.

While driving the car the gas pedal sticks and it prevents me from accelerating first time it happened it stuck for atleast 3minutes the more I drive the worst it gets. Now it when the gas pedal sticks I have to pull over to the side in the middle of me driving and wait sometimes 5. Minutes at a time until the gas pedal unsticks so I can continue driving.
My pregnant girl friend was driving the Ford Escape to work, when the gas pedal got stuck to the floor and would not release for about 30 seconds then about two miles down the road it did it again for the same amount of time. After that she parked and had it towed to find out we had a defective throttle body that Ford will not cover under there recall.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck in open throttle. The contact had to abruptly apply the brakes in order to get the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that they could not determine the cause of the acceleration failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 71,000.

During cooler weather the gas pedal becomes "stuck" and can not be pushed. Almost as though something is placed under the gas pedal. You have to literally stomped on it to get it down and sometimes that doesn't even work. When this problem initially started happening, it would happen right after starting. I began to tell my daughter to warm her car and press the pedal a few times before leaving. She just called me and this incident happened while she was driving! it is 54 degrees here and this is the first time it has happened since last winter. I have read several complaints about this and feel that it is a huge safety hazard especially for my 16 year old daughter.
My client's son was driving his vehicle on central avenue in prince george's county maryland at nighttime when the accelerator pedal got stuck to the floor. He swerved onto the shoulder of the road to avoid traffic and his vehicle then struck a bike rider then struck the median curb totaling the vehicle. Both the driver and bike rider sustained significant injuries.

While driving, my throttle or gas pedal sticks. It will not depress. I have to turn the car off and back on again. Sometimes I have to let the car sit a few minutes before it will unstick. This is very dangerous trying to merge into traffic!!! this has happened several times, and usually when the weather is cold or the engine is cold. That is the only pattern I have been able to figure out.
Gas pedal sticks when cold. The gas pedal will lock up and not unlock.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal become stuck when attempting to accelerate from a complete stop. The failure would occur more frequently during cold weather temperatures. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be cleaned due to carbon build up. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. The current mileage was 149,000.
Several times, the accelerator pedal would stick to the point that I could stand on it and it would not budge. It happens most frequently in colder weather but the temperature of the car has no effect. There is no real pattern to when it won't work. Ford recommended replacing the throttle body, however after researching, the throttle body is not something that is normally replaced at this mileage.
Gas pedal sticks, especially in cold weather. Have had to put car into neutral on more than 1 occasion due to pedal sticking at high speed. Also sticks when accelerating at low speed, making acceleration almost impossible.
Accelerator sticks, would not go down. Started sticking when starting engine and would continue until driven for a few miles. Continued to get worse and would stick when pulling out from a side road to a busier road below a hill where oncoming traffic could be popping over hill and my vehicle would not move. Would have to continue to stomp accelerator, finally would take off. Stuck several times when driving during snow storm, had to constantly stomp accelerator, would take off at a higher than safe speed and then I would have to use break which was not safe on snow covered road. Stuck in middle of intersection. Had to continue to stomp accelerator, finally moved before anyone struck my vehicle was told by dealership that problem was due to cold weather but last time it stuck the weather was warm. Dealership finally replaced throttle body at my expense of $400 with mileage at 89888. .
After starting the car, the gas pedal felt like it had a brick under it. It would not move. After the car warmed up, it worked again. During the last month, this has happened in traffic, forcing me to pull off the road since I could not accelerate, several times in very heavy traffic. While driving recently, on the highway, hours after beginning my trip, the accelerator became stuck, for 2 or 3 seconds, causing me great concern. Now, every morning I have to wait about 15 minutes for the pedal to free itself in order to be able to drive the vehicle. It sticks off and on at least twice during the warm up period. I don't have exact dates, but this has happened several times during the last few months intermittently and has been very frightening when it happens in traffic. This happened to me a few years ago, a time or two, but the problem went away. Now it is a daily occurrence. The cooler temperature seems to be a factor. I am reluctant to bring the vehicle to a Ford dealer since I have read many postings from people who have been unsuccessful getting the problem corrected, even after spending a sizeable amount of money. Additionally, I cant find any evidence that Ford has any idea how to correct the problem.
While traveling on the interstate in the left lane during rush hour traffic, the gas pedal stuck and would not accelerate any longer. Caused other cars to suddenly slow while trying to get off to the ramp. The pedal would not release for approximately 10 minutes. Then after traveling maybe 20 yards, the pedal stuck again for another 5 minutes.
Gas pedal sticks, I purchased this car one year ago. It has consistently had a problem with sticking since I purchased it.
Son was driving vehicle when gas pedal stuck and would not go down--he pushed pedal down with all his strength but it would not move.
The gas pedal sticks. I have been told it is most likely the throttle body. It is getting progressively worse and I fear it may lead to an accident if it is not repaired.
I have experienced several cases over the years with the 2005 Ford Escape seeming to idle very-very low and when attempting to accelerate (for instance from a stop sign) the acceleration is very very slow and then ramps up after a few seconds. This occurs intermittently but regularly and despite taking it to several repair shops, none have managed to provide a reasonable explanation but have all recognized it. Recently I have noticed issues, especially at highways speeds, of the vehicle "shuddering" as if the brakes are having trouble slowing the vehicle which im concerned may be from the throttle not disengaging properly when released (almost like its stuck or frozen). We have recently in my region of the country been experiencing a few cold snaps and that brings me to the most recent issue. When attempting to use the vehicle today, I noticed that the accelerator seemed "stuck" or frozen. I depressed it a few times, no luck as it seemed "frozen". I took it to mean that the cold (it got down below f. In georgia) and let it run for a bit to warm. I pushed accelerator and it seemed unstuck. I put in reverse and attempted to accelerate backwards. I found the pedal would not come off the floorboard. I stopped the vehicle and after looking at the pedal, I was able to move it freely and looking at the connection I thought it had broken or became disconnected. I came back from work after getting ride from wife and went to inspect it. The pedal this time acted as expected although I could hear squeaking and it thumped when I hit the brakes. It seems that the cod had frozen something or exacerbated whatever was causing issues in general. I called Ford and they mentioned something had been done in 06 and then I read article about 17 year old who died after her Escape throttle became stuck in a similar way after having a recent repair.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the accelerator became stuck in open throttle and caused the vehicle to accelerate. The contact also mentioned that the accelerator pedal would become stuck sporadically and would not allow the contact to accelerate. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The vehicle was not taken for diagnosis or repair. The failure was mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 114,000.

I sometimes can not get my gas pedal unstuck. I have to keep tapping it and then press really hard. It gets stuck usually when the weather is colder out. Sometimes it takes me a minute or two to get it going and then when I do I almost get whip lash taking off.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floor board when parking or in reverse. The contact had to depress the accelerator pedal several times for it to release. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 123,000.
While traveling between 25 and 30 mph, the accelerator became stuck. I was unable to depress it further and it did not release. After 3 or 4 attempts the accelerator freed up. It then worked fine the remainder of the day. This occurred five times sporadically during the first half of 2012. This behavior returned April 2013. The accelerator stuck and freed up 3 or 4 times in a row during a morning commute for several days. The Ford dealer replaced the throttle body (5l8z*9e926*a body asy) and gasket (4l5z*9e936) total cost with labor $474.
Last year I purchased a 2011 Ford Escape and have been completely dissatisfied with my purchase. The selling dealer, tower Ford in great neck, new york has done absolutely nothing to help me rectify my serious complaint and concerns with my vehicle. One of my biggest concerns is that the transmission slips, the accelerator pedal sticks, the brakes are very low, and a swishing liquid noise is heard in the fuel tank when stopping, the right side rear passenger door squeaks, and the center console is loose. I've brought my truck back to this dealer many times and all I receive is that they can not verify my complaint and concerns. I am concerned for my family and my safety. Any help would be appreciated.

My daughter was driving her 2008 Ford Escape and her gas pedal stuck while trying to get it in gear to reverse at least ten different times. . When this occurred in January of 2012 however, she was turning onto a busy street when the gas pedal stuck while the speed went down to zero. Luckily she was not rear ended. She was away at college and I told her to get it to the Ford dealer near her. The problem was diagnosed as the throttle body was sticking and replacement was advised and was subsequently completed at a cost of $486. 83. I have just recently learned of recalls for this problem with the throttle on several Escape model years. I want to know if I have any recourse to be reimbursed for this repair.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, he attempted to accelerate further but the accelerator pedal was stuck. The accelerator pedal began to operate as normal after waiting a few moments. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact owns a 2001 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving, the accelerator pedal became stuck in open throttle position. The contact had to kick the accelerator pedal in order to release the pedal and stop the vehicle from accelerating. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Accelerator gets stuck without warning. I was almost rear ended because I could not move at the stop light. I pressed the accelerator, stomped it, and it would not work. I could not press the accelerator and make it work. Eventually it unfroze and I was able to move. This is very dangerous, it has done it at times when I was on the road and I couldn't move.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the accelerator pedal became stuck. The contact had to constantly depress the accelerator pedal in order for the vehicle to respond. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck and could not be dislodged. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told there was no way to remedy the pedal failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while sitting at a stop sign, there was an increase in engine rpms up to 7,000. The contact mentioned that she shifted to park and shut off the engine in order to maintain control of the vehicle. After inspecting and restarting the vehicle, the contact realized that the failure was not caused by a stuck accelerator pedal since the engine remained revved up. The vehicle was towed to dealer who diagnosed that the failure was caused by carbon build up in the throttle body plates which kept the plates open and did not allow it to close. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 199,000 and the approximately current mileage was 217,000. Updated 8/30/12 updated 09/05/12.

Anytime temperature is below approximately 50 degrees f, gas pedal sticks and cannot be depressed for acceleration until vehicle is being driven. Pedal also hangs closed at this temperature while being driven.
My 2006 Ford Escape gas pedal got stuck in my neighborhood 9 times in one day. This has happened numerous times but it is usually when it's cold. This is the first time it has happened was in the summer. This indicates to me that situation is getting worse. There is no warning. One time I was leaving my neighborhood onto highway when the gas pedal pressed only enough to get me into highway at the bottom of a hill. Luckily, I was able to coast to the side of rode. There are others having the same problem and it needs to be addressed before someone is killed.
