Automatic Emergency Braking Problems of Ford Escape

My 2024 Ford Escape remains in the dealership since Nov 3, 2025. Today I was notified that Ford engineering and the dealer still cannot clear the ongoing pre-collision assist / forward collision warning faults. This is now the 13th documented safety-system failure. Multiple adas systems have failed since March 2025 (blis, cross traffic, park aid, front camera). After the Nov 14 ipma module replacement, new issues developed including tpms failure and alert-history not recording events. Vehicle is unsafe to drive and unrepairable after multiple attempts. Ford engineering states codes will not clear. ”.

I went for a diagnostic test for awd module failures, and when auto zone did the test abs came back as failed and this was in July of 2025.

Our vehicle has been in and out of the Ford dealership 6 times now for the same problems. Now they say that it will take maybe another 2 months to have a fix. This is even though it has said each time that it has been fixed. Now they want us to return our loner a drive an unsafe car without safety features for the unseen future. I have had two case numbers open with Ford and they will not respond back with the second case. I have to keep calling them. They expect us to drive an unsafe vehicle and it is unacceptable that they are doing this.

Got an advanced trac warning on my dashboard. Lost my awd traction control forward collision assist. Took it to my service station. They did a diagnostic testing and told me it could be a power train problem and may be covered under warranty and recommended that I take it to the Ford dealership because this appears to be a common problem with Ford Escapes. They also told me that my shocks are starting to leak which is also a common problem with Ford Escapes. Took my car to the Ford dealership along with the receipt from my service station and they also did a diagnostic there. Told me the problem was my awd module and that it wasn’t under warranty and would cost $800. 00 plus to repair. I sent them multiple complaints from the NHTSA with the same problem . Told them to do the repair because I felt unsafe driving my car. Asked who I could complain to because this is a recurring problem and they directed me to Ford customer service . They were no help at all and were unable to direct me to anyone else for help. Told me to file a complaint with the NHTSA. I am filing this complaint because I am wondering how many people have to pay out of pocket for problems that appear to be a Ford product problem before they either voluntarily acknowledge the problem or are forced to do a recall. I have not had the shocks replaced yet because that will be another $600. 00 plus bill. I have lost all confidence in my car and Ford. I am retiring soon and this car would be paid off by then but now I may have to get rid of this car and buy another one and have a car payment in retirement. Extremely unhappy with Ford and will never buy another Ford. This is unfair to anyone who buys a product and experiences common problems that the manufacturer chooses to not recognize and fix! Ford needs to step up and acknowledge the problems and pay for the repair!.

One day my all wheel drive, pre-collision emergency braking, lane departure warnings, cruise control, lane assist, and hill start assist stopped working. I could no longer use any of these functions. There was no accident, fire, or any other damage that occurred to my vehicle to cause this malfunction. It just stopped working. I was alerted by error messages on my dash that all wheel drive and pre collision assist were not functional. I scheduled an appointment with the dealership. When I took my car in for inspection at the dealership, they found that the all wheel drive module was defective, directly impacting the functionality of the powertrain, and needed replaced immediately. They confirmed that this module was not working. Without this function, I could not use all wheel drive in icy, snowy, or rainy weather, thus impacting the safety of the vehicle for myself and my 8month old daughter who I drive daily. This also prevented collision emergency braking and lane departure warning features from functioning, which are important for preventing dangerous accidents. Even though my car is still covered under the powertrain warranty, and this defect affects the function of the powertrain, they do not consider it covered under warranty.

I bought a 2018 Ford Escape 1. 5l ecoboost as the 2 or 3rd owner. There were no recalls I checked and also did a carfax when I bought the car 7/4/2024. I was driving the car and all of a sudden the car slows itself down from 50mph to 5mph and give me a warning car is overheating. Got to side of road safely and took to the mechanic he then told me about Fords customer satisfaction program but since I have 95k miles my car does not qualifiy as they only gave 4 months to people with 84k miles to get fixed free if you are over they will nto fix. I did not own the car when they sent this out in 2022 and there was nothing made public about this engine isssue they are aware of. I am still sore from the seat belts locking up and have neck issues. This car sits in my garage as a paperweight now.

My car says that collision assist, all wheel drive is unavailable and is locked to front wheel drive only.

Just backed out of a parking space at a shopping plaza and proceeded forward. Applied the breaks to allow another car to enter the parking lot when my breaks failed. The abs was flashing on the dash and I coasted slowly and finally put it in park. The other driver was upset that I didn't stop. I restarted the car, as it stalled and proceded slowly to my home where I parked it.

On dashboard, states: regain control, bind spot system fault, cross-traffic system fault, front camera fault service required, pre-collision assist not available. We have a [xxx] in the car and the added safety features to assist while driving are faulty. Ford knows it is an issue but has not been able to fix it. The contact stated while driving 25-30 mph with the adaptive cruise control activated, the automatic emergency braking system failed to engage while another vehicle had pulled in front of the vehicle from the passenger's side of the vehicle. My car, 2018 Ford Escape is in need of an entirely new engine due to coolant leaking into the engine. This is a known issue. My car suddenly started overheating and my car became undrivable. This is a widely reported issue and I believe there is clear evidence that it is a known defect and that Ford has the absolute responsibility to repair it .

The awd module (lx6z 7p238 aanp module) went out on my 2020 Ford Escape. One day when starting my car several warnings popped up on the screen. The warnings were “awd off”, “pre-collision assist not available”, “service advanced trac”, “awd fault service required”, “up hill assist not available” “traction control system fault or not available?” and the wrench on the dashboard lit up. After googling the issue I found other 2020 Escape owners with the same problem. They all had to have the awd module replaced. Ford even recalled a select few 2020 Escapes for this issue, even though many more are having the same issue with not many miles on them. Called Ford to get in for a diagnostic and informed them what warnings were flashing. They confirmed it was the awd module causing the issue and replaced it. The cost was $835. 14. Since awd and traction control were disabled it made the vehicle dangerous to drive in slippery conditions. With the uphill assist disabled, that also made it more dangerous. The safety feature, pre-collision assist, being disabled put my family and others in danger. Since replacing the module all the warnings have stopped and everything seems to be back to normal. Ford is aware of this issue and is not taking responsibility for installing faulty awd modules.

I just pulled in my driveway of my home open car door saw smoke and I looked under engine I saw flames that's when I close garage door and call 911 by the time they get there my car engine was burned out.

This recall is very serious, I do not feel safe driving my car as it could explode and kill me, and or others. No eta on a serious recall, even though I am being forced to pay for repairs, and possibly cause more damage to my engine for this serious recall.

Awd module failed problem confirmed by dealer Ford previously had a recall for this exact problem. That recall should not have expired as the problem is still ongoing.

I was stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake. The vehicle unexpectedly accelerated and crashed into the vehicle in front of me. Collision assistance did not activate, and there was no audible warning. The vehicle accelerated with such force that both cars were damaged. A police report was obtained. No one was injured. Damage to the vehicle includes a broken grill, broken head lamp, bent hood and broken brackets under the hood. The car is currently at serra bodyshop center in rochester, michigan. The vehicle was serviced on 6/15/22 at elder Ford in romeo. Oil change, rotate tires, check alignment and multipoint inspection.

Abs light on, vehicle stalling, dragging while driving 40mph or over. Brake petal non functional. *c1313, c1480, c1481 brake hoses restricted not allowing brake pressure in caliber damage *sway bar links damage, excessive noise and play.

Purchased a 2020 Ford Escape on 10-31-2020. On 11-23-20-11-24-20 I got messages about the transmission and my wife couldn't put the car in reverse after going to the store. Took the car to the dealer they didn't even check the transmission only the engine and computer system. Ended up back in there the same day 5 times because the anti crash and brake systems wasn't working. The service tech then drove it around the corner 5 different times to get the computer system to kick in. Eight days later 12-4-20 I get stuck in my friends driveway. The car wouldn't go in reverse. Finally it did after 20 minutes. I take the car back and it needs a new transmission. The computer system and power train, crash assistance, anti collision system wasn't working either. They had just received the vehicle on 10-27-20. The car was picked out for me by the sales rep and it wasn't from off the lot it was in the back. I truly believe they knew the whole car was bad. They've had my car since the 12-4-20 and I'm still responsible for it and the loaner car. The sales manager and general manager told me I'll have to sue them using the lemon law of anything else goes wrong. It will and they know it. I have several reports that the transmissions on the 2020 Escape is one of the main issues. I also have all the reports sent to my phone from Ford pass. I also have a vehicle history report that the brakes, power train system, and restraints and driver assistance needs repaired also. This occurred in jacksonville, florida. All these issues make this vehicle unsafe for anyone.

My vehicle mileage is 58049 original. I noticed while I was driving, within the last 8 months. I wouldn't get an alert about the odometer reading that would say regen brakes disabled I also noticed when I try to stop, the brake pedal would buckle while pressing it. And the vehicle didn't seem to notice that I'm trying to stop, it would eventually stop. It's a good thing that I'm not a tailgater cuz I would have clocked any vehicle in front of me. I'm just discouraged considering with such low mileage the most important part of a vehicle which is the braking system is going if not already gone. I am disabled so I do not drive often, the vehicle sits in the driveway more than its on the road. I've not traveled a far distances with the vehicle, mostly doctor's appointments and picking up medication and grocery store. That's it, now I've come to a crossroads not sure what to do how about this conundrum.
