Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. While preparing to make a left turn with the brake pedal depressed, the regenerative braking system indicator illuminated. The contact had to pump the brake pedal almost to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The failure occurred intermittently. The contact called preferred Ford (located at 1401 s beacon blvd, grand haven, mi 49417, (616) 842-0600) where an appointment was scheduled. The contact stated that since the indicator was no longer illuminated, he had not taken the vehicle to a dealer. Each time the indicator illuminated, the failure occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
I had all the brakes stuck while driving. Abs and brake warning lamp went off along with regen brakes disabled. Mechanic`s diagnosis was abs pump and control module need to be replaced. Cost about 4500$ total.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. While driving 35 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. The brake and abs warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle's hydraulic control unit has failed. As a result the vehicle is unsafe to drive because the abs does not function. The cost to replace this part is around $6000, which is more than the value of the car. I opened a complaint with Ford motor company but they say that there is nothing that they can do.
"regen brakes diabled" notification comes on. After which, the braking seems inconsistent. This is a concern as the braking system is a safety issue.
Breaks periodically just won't work. . . Go out. . . There are multiple complaints about this listed on the internet. Its says you can replace a 4000 part. . . However the car really isn't worth that much. Now it will say regen breaks disabled.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that when his girlfriend pressed on the brake it became inoperable and the brake and abs warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle stopped only after the brake was pumped multiple times. The vehicle was taken to dealer grieco Ford MA (1651 new state hwy, raynham, MA 02767. 1- 888-680-8818) who diagnosed the vehicle and stated abs pump was fractured, but it was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111449. Jc.
A. B. S. Hcu. Part # 8m6z2c286a this repair according to the dealer cost is $5835. 56 their are many other complaints. This is a major safety problem !.
Vehicle lost all brakes was told it is a issue with a valve in the hybrid brake system which cost over 5 grand to fix through Ford.

It's say regan brakes disabled system and now my brakes is burning before I pulled off the light came on.
Regenerative hybrid brakes disabled. . Vehicle brakes in "failsafe" mode, which requires you to slam the brakes all the way to the floor just to slow down. Ran through three red lights unwillingly. The Ford Escape Hybrid has many reported issues with the abs and regenerative system failing (a quoted $5000 fix). These vehicles are so rare, and probably every single one of them are no longer driven and instead on the forums with a laundry list of complaints around this issue.
The regen breaks disabled light is always on. The breaks do not work properly, if at all. Numerous times I have been unable to stop almost causing an accident. The breaks sometimes lock on and the vehicle won't move at all. Unable to go more than 40 mph. If you attempt, the vehicle shakes and the breaks smoke. I took it to Ford for diagnostic and they informed me it is a common problem due to the the beak system and the hybrid system being integrated. The part by itself is $4200 and the vehicle blue books for about $3000 at the most. The vehicle won't start or even turn over. The battery is good.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to engage. The contact stated that the regenerative braking system disabled warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist because the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
He hydraulic control unit failed on my vehicle. This seems to be an issue that has arisen with a great deal of owners of Ford Escape Hybrids over the last several years. I had to have the entire hcu system replaced at a Ford dealership service department. As it was not covered by warranty, nor considered by the company to be an issue deserving of a recall, I had to pay out of pocket for the entire thing, which totaled $4,863. 00 (and it took five days to get the work completed). I also had to pay to rent a car for the several days it took to get the part and perform the work, which was another $200. 00. Due to the high cost of this repair and the frequency with which it is affecting consumers, I believe that this issue should become a recall and people should be reimbursed for the repairs they have had to make.
The computer checks the brakes upon start and the computer is falsely detecting an error with the hydraulic brake pump periodically. It can occur 1 in every 50 starts to sometime 5 attempts in every 1 good start. The computer if it sees an error will disable the regenerative brakes and the vehicle will brake significantly slower and less efficiently when in error mode. The computer glitch requires a total replacement and must be reprogrammed at the dealer at a cost of $4 to $5 thousand. Based on the thousands I see online with the same issue and nature of issue (brakes and safety), I am surprised to see a recall has not been mandated. The cost is beyond reasonable and I am left with driving an unsafe car.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. When the vehicle was started, the abs, service brakes, and regenerative brake disabled warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Ive had reoccurring issues with my brakes ,abs system , power train , steering column starter. Over the course of three years and it seem like the problems keep coming up . The only close call I remembers is coming home from work . Making a turn on to a street, then all of a sudden my power steering went out completely. I could have crashed if a huge curb wasnt there .
I have experienced an unusual problem with the braking system in my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. I have experienced several episodes while braking of the yellow abs and the red brake warning lamp lighting up and the display saying "regen brakes disabled" over the past year. When this happens the brakes are slow to stop the car with a jerking action. All of my failures have happened while driving in town. Once I ended up in the middle of an intersection before the car came to a complete stop. The only way I could correct the issue would be to stop the car, depress the brake pedal hard to the floor, then shut off the vehicle. I would then restart my car and the brakes would then return to normal operation. I have researched this issue on line and have found hundreds of people posting complaints about the same issue. All complaints are from owners of feh's 2005 to 2008. Why hasn't this life safety issue been addressed? from what I have read, the repair could be from $3000 to $7000 dollars. I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall. Or has there been. Please advise. Dl.
The abs brake sytem warning lights come on service brakes now in message center my wife drives the vehicle with my children and at times the brake pedal goes to the floor vehicle doesntstop when this occurs this is a ongoing problem with the Ford Escape Hybrid since 2005 I think these abs hcu should be a recall due to the danger and the cost to repair this problem because of defective brake parts.
The brakes stopped working and the warning was "regen brakes disabled". I was told this was a defect and Ford was not covering the cost of fixing, which is $5,000-7,000. We bought the vehicle new and it has a bit over 130,000 miles and is in great shape otherwise. We can't fix it, sell it or drive it.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed at approximately 40 mph, the pedal went to the floor and the vehicle failed to stop within a reasonable amount of time. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
My car was sitting and I went to start it and the "regen brakes disabled" and "check brake system" came across my dash. Its a long story but I took it to courtesy Ford in okemos, mi and they said that the hydraulic control until needed to be replaced, this part would cost me $4,620. 20 to replace. I have only owned this for just over a year. I owe $10,080. 00 on this vehicle, I cannot get a loan to fix it and courtesy Ford said they would only give me $3,700 for it! I am a single mother of 2 and cannot afford to fix this vehicle! I emailed Ford and they said they cannot do anything about it or help me out fixing it. I am without a vehicle and stuck with a $10,000 debt!!! Ford needs to recall the hybrids due to their faulty part not to mention it it unsafe to drive. The dealership told me that it is not safe to drive so it sits there. I am outraged and sickened at Ford. They need to be held responsible for their faulty part. I am not able to get to work, I am going to loose my job and my house because of Ford.
I had the check brake system warning suddenly come on when I started the car; also told me the regenerative braking system was off. The brakes worked, but were "mushy" and car seemed to be more difficult to stop; it took a longer distance and took more pressure on the brake pedal. The last few miles per hour seemed the poorest in stopping power. Now that I think about it, the brakes had not seemed as "crisp" for several weeks. Took it too klaben Ford and they told me the hydraulic control unit needed replacing. I did this, but it was over $5000 for the repair (with labor).
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel shook without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that after the brakes were replaced on the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and the abs warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000. Sg.

When breaking the vehicle loses regenerative breaking and reverts to fail safe mode. Most notably this occurs when coming to a stop at a stop sign/light. Breaks appear to function normally, however at the end of a breaking cycle the vehicle loses power to the breaks and the vehicle surges forward. When this happens the stability control dash light quickly flashes on and then off. Also, the gauge that shows power being transferred to the battery stops charging the battery and returns to the normal position pointing straight up. The vehicle is drivable after this occurrence and no warning lights or after effects are known. It may happen at one stop light and not the next. It is an intermittent issue. Sometimes it may do this 2 or 3 times when driving in traffic for 30 minutes or it may not happen at all. My understanding is that this issue is due to a faulty hydraulic control unit. This is a component failure due to faulty design, not due to driver-induced damage or wear.
My dashboard displayed an abs symbol in March 2014. The brakes became erratic and I had the car diagnosed for a problem. The mechanic found a broken and loose abs tone ring on the driver side front wheel axle. The tone ring and wheel axle were replaced at my expense. Then, in February 2015, my dashboard displayed another abs symbol. Again, I had the car diagnosed and the mechanic found another broken and loose tone ring. This time it was on the passenger side front wheel axle. Again, repair was done at my expense. These problems are a safety issue for the braking system and I contacted Ford motor company to request assistance and compensation from them. They would not provide any assistance for these problems since they are not covered by any recall or warranty program. My car problems should be covered by a recall or safety program from the NHTSA.
I have a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid in excellent condition with approximately 34,000 miles on it with a history of no accidents and well kept maintenance. However, this morning with no notice the brake abs indicator lite up with a warning "regen braked disable" and "check brake system message center" for which I drove it directly to the Ford dealership. One hour later and two codes I have never heard of c-1475 and c-1312 and an estimate of $5400 for the repair left me in shock. Not under warranty. I don't understand a car barely used in 5 and a half years could have such a major catastrophic problem if it could not be linked to a problem with the manufacturer? I am lucky I was not on the freeway, as the breaks became difficult to use on the way to the dealership. Ford needs to own up to this problem, as there have been many complaints beginning as early as 2005 models. I understand wear and tear on a car is the responsibility of the owner, however, if it is maintained well and even the mechanic has never seen the hcu and ecu go out at the same time, Ford needs to own up to their mistake.
When coming to a stop the car jerked/pulsates and abs indicator blinked. The problem is continuous. This seems to be a common problem with Ford based on internet research.
Approximately one week ago when driving I applied the brakes and had very little effectiveness during a stop in slow speed traffic. Instinctively I kept pressing the pedal down harder with no improvement. Did not hit anything but was shaken up. I blew it off thinking I braked too late. On 1/26/2013 while driving on the highway during low speed traffic again same incident occurred. Traffic was heavy and we were rolling about 15 mph. Brakes did not respond effectively, caught my attention and pushed very hard. Plenty of room in front though to somewhat coast-brake to a stop. Less then 30 seconds later, traffic still stop and go, with plenty of room to brake I pushed on brake pedal with no braking. Pushed the pedal as hard as possible- nothing- and coasted into the rear end of car in front of me. Low speed impact with minor damage to car in front. Front bumper, grill and radiator damage to my car. Thankful it was not during high speed driving. Did some research on internet to find it has been happening in the hybrid vehicles with the "hydraulic control unit" sometimes not functioning. Taking car to dealers to drop it off for collision estimate and have them look into braking system. Approximate cost repair according to other reports about this problem is $4,000. I feel very unsure about driving this vehicle again once it is fixed and if problem can be identified. And if Ford can not find the problem where do I go with it? numerous complaints from owners in reports I read last night where Ford could not find problem only to have it happen to owner again. I am now in that same boat.
