Car shuts off with little or no warning, 3 times now, once on interstate 64. Dealer first said hybrid battery bad, 2nd opinion from hybrid battery company said battery good. Dealer said, 2nd time with car, need a $600 repair that will resolve. Now, dealer says no, the battery is still the issue. They still cannot state why the car does it, what will make this car safe to drive and if they truly know it is the battery, why did they do the $600 repair and tell us that would fix the problem. I have asked wynne Ford in hampton va, the dealer, for a poc at Ford motor company to be able to get answers on how to make/know our12 yr old car is safe to drive, been over a month, but have recieved no information from wynne Ford. I guess I need to drive to michigan to see mr. William clay Ford jr for answers. I do not know the exact mileage on the vehicle, vehicle is at the dealership. Also, the issue has happened 3 times but the latest was around oct 2018. Each incident, we had to get vehicle towed.
I bought my vehicle, used, a couple of years ago. I asked for the carfax and if there were any issues with the vehicle. The salesman let me glance at his screen and scrolled through to humor me and promised there were no issues. A few days ago while driving on the highway using cruise control, the cc kicked off and my car jerked. Since then, I have had trouble accelerating and controlling the speed of my car. A littel orange wrench came on. This morning as I was driving to work, the check engine light came on. I felt like I almost got into 3 accidents for lack of control of my car. I took it to the shop and they told me I shouldn't even be driving it because of the lack of speed control. Now I'm stuck paying hundreds of dollars, maybe thousands, for lack of proper disclosure and faulty manufacturing. Ford issues a lifetime warranty rather than a recall, which is a disgrace as they're waiting for customers to deal with problems and get hurt before they fix anything. This should not be possible!.

Vehicle was parked. I got in to start the vehicle. Upon reversing it immediately locked the steering wheel, shut down completely and I saw the letters safely stop appear as well as the red triangle (per auto manual the red triangle is described as master vehicle electrical hazard warning lamp and I was unable to move the vehicle at that point at all. I tried to turn it back on several times. Often it wouldn't turn on at all, but when it did then the red triangle would appear again & car wouldn't budge.

I have a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid that displayed a stop safely now sign and then immediately lost power, while I was driving 60 mph on the highway. The car began losing power and within seconds wouldn't move at all. I am the not the first person to have this happen to and it appears that Ford is aware of the cause. It is the engine cooling system pump, and yet even with their knowledge they have failed to issue a recall. I believe they are waiting for something terrible to happen to someone before anything is done about this. Having a car lose complete power on a highway is completely unsafe and the issue appears to only be with 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrids. Again indicating Ford is aware of the problem, and the problem stems from something they originally did wrong in the manufacturing of the car and yet chooses to do nothing about it. This needs to be investigated before something terrible happens.

I was driving to work when all of a sudden a yellow wrench light came on, my car shut down, and I had to coast across 3 lanes of highway traffic to stop on the shoulder. It wouldn't start at first, then I tried again and it started and drove the rest of the way just fine. I have read hundreds of complaints about the same issue. Apparently the throttle body has a defect getting open or closed, codes p2111 and p2112, respectively. This is very dangerous and I can't believe a recall hasn't been issued for this by Ford. I was already victim of another recall for the mep failing that caused the same thing to happen, complete system shut down. What kind of joke for a safe vehicle is this? I'm abhorred and will never buy another Ford, and I will make sure everyone I speak to knows how much Ford doesn't take care of their customers. They should be ashamed.
Dealer says electronic throttle body must be replaced, powertrain control module refreshed. Escape stalled multiple times while driving in city, loss of power and fuel, emergency light, had to be restarted. Known issue. "customer satisfaction program" for electronic throttle body 2009 - 2013 escape of warranty extension 10 years, 150k, is not extended to 2008. My escape is 9 years, 110k. Should be recalled for all years. Incredibly dangerous and scary.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. While the vehicle was placed in the park position, it rolled forward. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v606000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
The vehicle stalled and lost all power to the engine with a "pull over safely" sign while on the freeway back in September 2013 wherein I was told to have the cooling part for the hybrid battery replaced. I was told the part was faulty. The replaced part had to be replaced again that same week by another dealership with Ford. Fast forward to today, and the same red triangle warning lights appeared and the part needs to be replaced again. The warranty for the part is only for 2 years, but after 3 years with the part, the dealership is telling me it needs to be replaced again. I find this aggregious in nature and a racket that Ford is taking advantage of their customers. The make and model were a part of a recall specific to this very issue, but my specific VIN number was not included in this recall, so I'm out of options for Ford to address this issue themselves, telling me that it is out of warranty and they will not assist me with the replacement/costs and now I'm expected to come out of pocket again for the same issue. The original situation occurred while traveling 70mph on the i5 southbound near lake elsinore, CA in the hov lane on the freeway, and two days ago it was stationary and could not be started after driving it that morning after sitting for one hour.
I was driving my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid home from work, on the highway during rush hour, when the car went into "limp mode" nearly causing an accident. I could not accelerate at all. I barely avoided a 16 wheeler and made it to the freeway shoulder while hitting a concrete curb nearly causing me to lose control and damaging my right front tire. It was terrifying, and this happened less than one year after the steering went out, nearly causing an accident also. The wrench sign was light up and a message to pull over was on. I was able to turn the car off and restart it and was able to drive home. It has happened 3 more times, driving at various speeds, in the last 2 days making the car basically undriveable. A code 2112 was pulled from the car and I was told that the electronic throttle body was bad and that there was a customer satisfaction program that should replace this. When I called Ford with my VIN number, I was told that my 2009 hybrid was not included in the customer satisfaction program 13n03. I went online and found numerous other 2009 Escape Hybrids with this exact same problem that were not covered. These vehicles need to be included in this customer satisfaction program before someone gets killed!!!.

The safety recall notices 14s05 / NHTSA recall 14v-286 and 14s09 / NHTSA 14v526000 were performed on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. However, the problems did not go away. Since the recalls, the car has had issues with reduced steering range, key/ignition not turning, power surge while driving, locking steering wheel, and the worst: a complete shut down of the powertrain while driving, resulting in a stall-like condition, putting our lives at risk. On June 11, 2016 the car was serviced and steering housing replaced. We asked for service to check the entire car-- everything!!!!-- as the car had been acting strangely with power surges and locking steering wheel while driving. Today, July 10 2016, while driving south on interstate-5 in CA, heading from home (danville, CA) to college (san diego, CA) the car's system completely failed while driving up the grapevine, a section of freeway that is extremely crowded and full of large 18 wheelers. My poor daughter (who now owns the car) called me, screaming hysterically, full of terror and fearing for her life. She had no power, was unable to steer, did her best the Dodge the 18 wheelers and "limp mode" over to the side of the freeway. She's now on the way with tow truck driver to drop the car off at Ford of valencia CA. I told her do not ever drive that car again. It is a seriously dangerous vehicle.
It was been more than couple years ago when I had error message" stop safely now" on my Ford 2008 Escape Hybrid. During that time, I was driving interstate round 50-60 miles per hour and all of sudden, it stop the engine. I took the dealer the next day. They get it fixed. Until recently, may 22, 2016 and June 20,2016 the error "stop safely message" came back. I took to the same dealer I used to go but this time. I left it for 2 days but the dealer said it will take a while to diagnose whats is the issue. I had to rent a car for those days but my car was not fix or the dealer saying it will take a while. I am sure they know what is the error code. Is this a recall?I seen other complain in here almost the same like me.
The wheel speed sensor ring, also known as the tone ring, can split or crack while driving, causing loss of abs and 4 wheel drive. This is what happened to me. It's a known defect, is frightening when it happens, and should have long ago result in a recall.
Driving car and brakes failed completely. Had to jump on the brakes to get any traction whatsoever. Was fortunately able to use the emergency brake before I got into an accident. Yellow abs and red brake lights are on, along with messages of check brake system and regen brakes disabled. Appears to be a common problem with Escape Hybrid that it is the hydraulic control unit - a part to repair which is more expensive than the car is worth.
Car wont start, the (stop slowly now) appears on dash screen . It attempts to start then it is killed, then the stop slowly now warning comes up. . It has done that while we are driving to. We have replaces hybrid cooling pump we were told that is the problem. Fixed it now it is worst.
In 2013, on several occasions, while driving, the car lost power completely under acceleration, while going uphill on city streets. I had to pull over to the side, turn the car off, wait and try to start the car again. After several attempts the car turned on and was able to drive normally. After the first incident, the engine indicator light came on. At the dealership, they informed me the throttle body accentuator was faulty, not under warranty ( car 3 years old at time) because it was really an electrical malfunction. The was replaced in 2013. Now again in 2016, engine light on again. . . Same diagnosis. Part replaced again, not under warranty. Dealership says it has no indications that this is a common problem in the Ford Escape Hybrids. Engine light still on. . . Yet to be resolved.
The brake system is very irritating because my abs and brake light are on at weird times and to fix they said it would cost me $4500. That's ridiculous I can't afford something like that. It also just started spitting gas out at me when I go to fill it up. Did it to me twice the other day and I have no idea what the reasoning was for that never had happen before. Then when I go to drove off sometimes the vehicle likes to make a pop noise once or twice not sure what that's all about. These cars are have more problems then they are worth.
While driving down the road at 45mph, tried to press the gas pedal to accelerate and nothing happened I could not go any faster and my car slowed down to 20 mph. I kept pushing the gas pedal to the floor and nothing would happen I had to pull off to the side of the highway. Where my car had to be towed because I couldn't drive it anywhere. I took it to the garage they told me that the electronic throttle body was bad and to replace it was 780. 00 there is a recall for 2009 to 2013 models for the same problem but not for 2008 or hybrids.
I drove away from my home and for the first two blocks felt that the car was acting sluggish and not accelerating properly; I was having trouble getting over 15 mph. I pressed the accelerator completely to the floor and the car slowly accelerated to around 25 mph. The wrench warning light also came on. I pulled over, stopped and started it again, but again the acceleration was very slow. I then turned around headed for home, very afraid that it would simply roll to a stop. Over a distance of 10 blocks, with the accelerator pressed to the floor the entire time, I only managed to get to 25 mph and that took many minutes. I only have 71,000 miles on the car, and there were no issues at all before this, not even when we drove earlier on the same day.
I had been driving down the road and my power steering went out with out warning. I puller over using force into a strip mall. Turned the car off, sat there for 10 min turned the car back on and the dash light came on and a service power steering read across the dash. Called Ford to make an appointment.

Vehicle power steering failed while turning left. In 2014 my vehicle was serviced for a power steering recall. I did not have a power steering failure until after the software update.
May 2014 recall involved the power steering control module and torc sensors that could cause loss of power steering making it difficult to steer. I had been noticing slipping in my steering wheel with slight pulling to opposite side. It happened in straight driving condition such as interstates but seemed more noticeable as I was navigating a curve. I took it to my Ford dealership with a recall notice I had and told them I was having these problems and concerned. They checked it out and told me they had reset a power steering control module and sent me on my way. It seemed alittle better at first but then started noticing again same problem. 10 month later I totally loss my power steering while driving home with my family. It became difficult to steer and I almost hit a truck coming around curve. Took it back to my Ford dealership was told torc sensor gone out and Ford service department says call recall hot line staying they felt should be taken care of under recall since I had been in with it before and torc sensor was part of recall. I call hot line set up case and was denied by Ford saying at the time of service during first recall visit I made they had found no defaults so they only reset power steering control module and closed recall out on my escape. I am outraged that Ford did not take into consideration their on certified mechanics and staff who advices me that this problem should have been detected and fixed with my visit that I had been having problems. Instead this continued to escalade until I totally lost power steering that could have caused wreck and ending badly. I feel Ford has taken recall efforts as cheap as possible with resetting these power steering control modules rather than taking extra steps in replacing torc sensors that were part of.
The vehicles warning light symbolized as an orange/yellow wrench illuminates on and off throughout the day. On multiple occasions the vehicle has lagged in response to applying pressure to the gas petal to accelerate, or had delayed acceleration response. The issue is ongoing, and continual on a daily basis starting approximately on March 2, 2015.
Powersteering light came on, power steering failed. Reset by turning car off, then restart. . . Did this more than 4 times.
While driving my newly purchased Ford escort (bought in may 2014) I lost power, the vehicle did not shut off but I was unable to accelerate & it sputtered & shook until I could safely pull off the road. A lighted wrench came on which I had no idea what it was until I looked in the manual (drivetrain). Once I was safely off the road I shut the vehicle off & waited awhile & started it back up & it had power again & I continued on my way. I was out of town at the time with my grandchildren in the vehicle. I really am confused as to why there has not been a recall on this. I feel my family was in danger as I was on a very busy roadway & lost power immediately. This is my first Ford vehicle & so far not impressed. I really hope there is a recall on this issue soon. Why do we have to wait until there is a catastrophe for something to get done?.
Early sept 2014 - began to experience intermittent issues of "limp home" mode. Originally, issue began with small "surges" in acceleration that I believed were simply related to the hybrid engine kicking into gear. Then experienced multiple but random "limp home mode" events, particularly when stopping at lights or accelerating (light-mod pressure) from a full stop. Car would flash "service engine soon" and not go above 20mph and sometimes not that. Would pull off if able, otherwise, would have to stop with flashers in the middle of the road, turn off the engine, wait a minute, and then restart (rebooting car). This would clear the check engine light and car would resume normal operation - of note: codes would not stay in the history of the computer. After several occurrences, managed to "limp home" to a mechanic while the light was on and pull codes between 2009-2012 and was advised to have the computer reprogrammed by Ford service. Car began limping home during full traffic and full acceleration (not stopped or slowing), causing a massive safety concern. Noted multiple investigative mentions on internet regarding 2005-2012 etb issues, but also noted this was then only "replaced" for 2009-2012. Apparently, anything older than 09 is a lost cause. 10/23/14 - have car in Ford service and recall (14s19) has been noted regarding motor electronics coolant pump causing "a failure mode effects management strategy that can result in a sudden partial or full loss of motive power" to protect vehicle powertrain. Being charged for diagnostic even though there is a recall on the part that is likely causing the problem.

Twice in the last 3 months the Ford lost acceleration. From 65mph to 40mph. . Even though I pushed the gas pedal all the way in. And the pedal and acceleration locked in! until I hit the brake the car locked in on the freeway. The situation is getting terrible!! afraid major accident will happen. Please fix this problem Ford!!!!.
Traveling home on the interstate at about 70mph and the motor shut off, giving me a 'stop safely now' with the red triangle light on. I stopped, waited a few minutes on the roadside and it started again. Headed home again, when about a mile and it happened again. Waited a few minutes by the road, then took off. This time I turned off the a/c and made a few miles to the house.
When driving at higher speeds (approximately over 50 mph), the car would suddenly lose engine power and the "stop safely now" message would come on. The car would go into limp-home mode and allow me to pull over to the side of the road. Turning off the car and restarting it would alleviate the problem for a few more minutes of driving. This happened about 15 times on a 60 mile trip home, allowing me to drive anywhere from one to 10 miles at a time before the engine shut off. This was accompanied at times with an engine overheating message. I took the car to the dealer for a repair. They claimed it was a malfunctioning electronic throttle body and replaced it for about $1000. A week later, the same thing happened twice on a 30-mile highway trip when driving at higher speeds, but has not happened since then.
My 06' hybrid escape completely shut down, it just gave me a " please pull over now". I almost caused a major accident on i44 at 75mph because of all power loss. When I was on the side of the highway I let it sit for like a minute and then restarted the engine and it drove a good 5 minutes at about 60 mph but as soon as I accelerated above 60 it gave me the sign again, and I had to repeat the process. I drove it home on the access road staying between 30-40 and thank god, it made it home.
We purchased this Ford Escape Hybrid in August, 2012, after procuring a pre-sale evaluation at Ford dealer 1, including a full VIN search for any incomplete recalls. The evaluation found nothing incomplete. Returning home 6. 11. 14, on our residential street, the escape without prior warning flashed ¿stop vehicle safely and simultaneously turned off all power. Research indicated a failed oem mecs coolant pump (TSB 08-24-5), and we had issues getting the correct part from Ford dealer 1 and sourced a dorman part from the local x auto parts store, supplying it to an ase-certified shop for installation (vehicle inoperable/on a lift). Another ¿stop vehicle safely event occurred 6. 24. 14 with my family in the vehicle on an expressway entrance ramp, with the escape taken to Ford dealer 2 for evaluation. Ford dealer 2¿s VIN check found csp 07b48 and TSB 09-18-6, not available previously. Ford dealer 2 made repairs consistent with the csp/TSB on 7. 12. 14 at our expense. These serious safety implications well-known to Ford (both csp 07b48/TSB 09-18-6 and TSB 08-24-5) were not identified by Ford dealer 1 in our pre-purchase inspection, or by Ford in a prior investigation and repair of the corrosion issues in this escape. We are concerned that known/identified safety issues generating an errant bcm signal disabling the car made this particular escape a ticking time bomb. We could not have been aware of the issues despite our diligence, but Ford had direct access to that information. We were fortunate when/where our failures occurred. For anyone else in a similar escape with the csp 07b48/TSB 09-18-6 and TSB 08-24-5 repairs not already accomplished, the nhsta should compel a long-overdue recall for the affected vehicles.
Completely lost power steering with no warning while making a right turn into oncoming traffic. Left me in a dangerous situation without power to turn the vehicle in time to avoid the incoming traffic.
