40 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Ive had reoccurring issues with my brakes ,abs system , power train , steering column starter. Over the course of three years and it seem like the problems keep coming up . The only close call I remembers is coming home from work . Making a turn on to a street, then all of a sudden my power steering went out completely. I could have crashed if a huge curb wasnt there .

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

I have experienced an unusual problem with the braking system in my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. I have experienced several episodes while braking of the yellow abs and the red brake warning lamp lighting up and the display saying "regen brakes disabled" over the past year. When this happens the brakes are slow to stop the car with a jerking action. All of my failures have happened while driving in town. Once I ended up in the middle of an intersection before the car came to a complete stop. The only way I could correct the issue would be to stop the car, depress the brake pedal hard to the floor, then shut off the vehicle. I would then restart my car and the brakes would then return to normal operation. I have researched this issue on line and have found hundreds of people posting complaints about the same issue. All complaints are from owners of feh's 2005 to 2008. Why hasn't this life safety issue been addressed? from what I have read, the repair could be from $3000 to $7000 dollars. I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall. Or has there been. Please advise. Dl.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/28/2016

The abs brake sytem warning lights come on service brakes now in message center my wife drives the vehicle with my children and at times the brake pedal goes to the floor vehicle doesntstop when this occurs this is a ongoing problem with the Ford Escape Hybrid since 2005 I think these abs hcu should be a recall due to the danger and the cost to repair this problem because of defective brake parts.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 09/12/2016

The brakes stopped working and the warning was "regen brakes disabled". I was told this was a defect and Ford was not covering the cost of fixing, which is $5,000-7,000. We bought the vehicle new and it has a bit over 130,000 miles and is in great shape otherwise. We can't fix it, sell it or drive it.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

While turning left, foot on brake pedal, in a small strip mall parking lot, car suddenly accelerated and kept accelerating. 45 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/24/2016

I was driving along the highway coming up to an intersection, preparing to stop at a red light in the left turn lane, when my breaks completely failed. The break pedal was stiff, and would not budge. We hit two cars that were sitting at the intersection, totaling my Ford escape as well as one of the other cars. In the past, the "service breaks" light would go on occasionally in the summer during the hot months, giving the car slightly less break pressure. This was never a serious problem, and has always corrected itself anytime I turned the car off for a while. In addition, whenever having the breaks checked, they could never detect a problem. In addition, my car had routine inspections done during an oil change a month before the accident, and a full service inspection before this. This car is unsafe for the road, and the accident was out of my control. After research, I found many 2004-2006 hybrid Ford escape owners to have the exact same complaints and experiences.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Brakes go stiff at random times while driving for no presented reason and cause a shock to driver and have to let go of brakes then press down to see if they will work. Happens in most if not all kids of conditions, not just one specific kind of situation. Has happened at least 10 times in the past 6 months.

Hydraulic control unit failure at 65000 miles. Car was in motion, driving down the road at normal speeds. Abs, traction control, and brake indicators all lit as well as a message to check brakes all came on simultaneously. Applying the brakes caused dramatically reduced braking ability (nearly none), rendering the car undrivable. Car has been meticulously serviced at the dealer since purchase. Purchased the extended bumper to bumper warranty and that ended last year. Repair cost $2500 at the dealer.

50 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/25/2016

The brakes are hard, runs all the way to stop this hard . El wheel can not turn easily to the sides. It gives me the code u0418, u0413. Is is not due to wear is a manufacturer fails.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/17/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and several warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Also, when the brakes were applied, the brake pedal would be very stiff, and the vehicle would skid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the fan was changed in the hybrid system; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

52 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/04/2016

In normal driving, with no warning, "brake" and "abs" warning lights illuminate along with "service brake system" display. Considerable effort is required to slow the vehicle and stopping distance is 2-3 times normal. I ended up in a ditch because I could not stop in time.

53 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

While in motion, on two separate occasions (3 weeks apart) my brake system went out and resorted to the default emergency brake functions where I was able to engage my brakes slowly after pressing the pedal all the way down. Had I been on a highway or going fast, I think I could have died. The first occasion, the mechanics told me that my brakes were fine because they went to diagnose my car and it was acting normal, but that they saw the computer error codes. I also had a picture of all my warning lights that came on the dashboard. The second time, the Ford dealership once again says that nothing is wrong. This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed because I have learned I am not the first person to experience this in a Ford hybrid. This isn't a small problem. This could definitely kill somebody.

54 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/24/2015

My car was sitting and I went to start it and the "regen brakes disabled" and "check brake system" came across my dash. Its a long story but I took it to courtesy Ford in okemos, mi and they said that the hydraulic control until needed to be replaced, this part would cost me $4,620. 20 to replace. I have only owned this for just over a year. I owe $10,080. 00 on this vehicle, I cannot get a loan to fix it and courtesy Ford said they would only give me $3,700 for it! I am a single mother of 2 and cannot afford to fix this vehicle! I emailed Ford and they said they cannot do anything about it or help me out fixing it. I am without a vehicle and stuck with a $10,000 debt!!! Ford needs to recall the hybrids due to their faulty part not to mention it it unsafe to drive. The dealership told me that it is not safe to drive so it sits there. I am outraged and sickened at Ford. They need to be held responsible for their faulty part. I am not able to get to work, I am going to loose my job and my house because of Ford.

55 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

I was on ladson road in the middle of the hyway and no brakes. The light came on just before my brakes went out. I had to have a tow truck take me home. I am afraid to drive my car. Ten years I have had no trouble. I have to have my son take me anywhere I have to go. It is not very good. This is the second time I have reported to you about this situation. The number you gave me #14v526000. Report #7695006-v3doz3.

56 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/04/2015

I had the check brake system warning suddenly come on when I started the car; also told me the regenerative braking system was off. The brakes worked, but were "mushy" and car seemed to be more difficult to stop; it took a longer distance and took more pressure on the brake pedal. The last few miles per hour seemed the poorest in stopping power. Now that I think about it, the brakes had not seemed as "crisp" for several weeks. Took it too klaben Ford and they told me the hydraulic control unit needed replacing. I did this, but it was over $5000 for the repair (with labor).

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

I was parking my Ford Escape Hybrid while moving back and forward I notice brake paddle jerk and paddle lost braking power.

58 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

Driving approximately 35 mph, suddenly received warning message about the brakes and heard warning beeps. Immediately I lost all braking ability (brake pedal felt soft and give very little resistance) but still had acceleration and steering control of the vehicle. I navigated the car to a side street and was able to slow the car down to an eventual stop on the shoulder using the emergency/parking brake. I turned the car off for approximately 5 minutes. Tested the pressure on the brake pedal and it seemed normal. I then started the car up and moved a little bit forward and depressed the brake pedal and everything worked fine. No warning messages or sounds. The car operated normally as I drove it back to a safe spot.

59 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that after the brakes were replaced on the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and the abs warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000. Sg.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

Was driving to work in the morning. Had been in the car approximately 10 minutes when the abs, brake, and service brakes, indicators came on all at once. Depressed brake pedal only to discover that I did in fact not have any brakes. Turned on emergency flashers and began to merge over into right hand shoulder, repeatedly stomping on brake pedal. Was able to come to a stop. This incident happened while I was approaching a very busy 3-way intersection, off of a major highway. Turned car off and back on to see if this was a malfunction, but all three indicators came on again. Had vehicle towed to Ford dealership. Paid $5280. 03 in parts and labor to have faulty hydraulic unit repaired, and hcu and hybrid system bleed. Had not had any problems with this vehicle in the past. Very thankful that this incident did not cause an accident or injuries to myself or others.

61 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

The hydraulic control unit failed on my vehicle. This seems to be an issue that has arisen with a great deal of owners of Ford Escape Hybrids over the last several years. I had to have the entire hcu system replaced at a Ford dealership service department. As it was not covered by warranty, nor considered by the company to be an issue deserving of a recall, I had to pay out of pocket for the entire thing, which totaled $4,863. 00 (and it took five days to get the work completed). I also had to pay to rent a car for the several days it took to get the part and perform the work, which was another $200. 00. Due to the high cost of this repair and the frequency with which it is affecting consumers, I believe that this issue should become a recall and people should be reimbursed for the repairs they have had to make.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

Check brakes sign came on all of a sudden I was going slow so I pulled the car to the side and pressed on the breaks but the car would not stop and the breaks failed. I turned the car off and put it in park it made this loud sound and finally stopped. Turned the car back on and the brakes were fine got home I was terrified thinking what if I was on the highway. First it was steering and now it's the brakes. I don't think I can drive my Ford escape anymore thinking I am safe.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/17/2014

I got an 'abs' light on, and the panel told me 'services brake system'.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

Brakes have given out, while coming to a red stop light luck that no one was around when I ran the light sent to dealer they could not duplicate issue but they did a update on steering and know when backing up steering gets stiff, causing turn radius to become extreme, but only does it sometimes. Went back to dealer no problem found and could not duplicate problem. Hoping someone find problem before a person or persons gets killed!!!.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

When breaking the vehicle loses regenerative breaking and reverts to fail safe mode. Most notably this occurs when coming to a stop at a stop sign/light. Breaks appear to function normally, however at the end of a breaking cycle the vehicle loses power to the breaks and the vehicle surges forward. When this happens the stability control dash light quickly flashes on and then off. Also, the gauge that shows power being transferred to the battery stops charging the battery and returns to the normal position pointing straight up. The vehicle is drivable after this occurrence and no warning lights or after effects are known. It may happen at one stop light and not the next. It is an intermittent issue. Sometimes it may do this 2 or 3 times when driving in traffic for 30 minutes or it may not happen at all. My understanding is that this issue is due to a faulty hydraulic control unit. This is a component failure due to faulty design, not due to driver-induced damage or wear.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

While coming up to a stop sign I started to press my brake and while coming to a stop the brakes stopped working allowing my vehicle to lunge forward a few feet without any brakes before the brakes kicked back in bringing my car to a stop. Also while idling around a parking lot my abs started engaging causing my vehicle to start jerking forward, I wasn't even touching the brakes.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

While driving, the braking power was lost and the abs and brake indicators appeared. This has happened several times over the course of the past month. Fortunately I have not been on the highway, but there have been some near misses. . . Accidents narrowly averted. . Read more...

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

My dashboard displayed an abs symbol in March 2014. The brakes became erratic and I had the car diagnosed for a problem. The mechanic found a broken and loose abs tone ring on the driver side front wheel axle. The tone ring and wheel axle were replaced at my expense. Then, in February 2015, my dashboard displayed another abs symbol. Again, I had the car diagnosed and the mechanic found another broken and loose tone ring. This time it was on the passenger side front wheel axle. Again, repair was done at my expense. These problems are a safety issue for the braking system and I contacted Ford motor company to request assistance and compensation from them. They would not provide any assistance for these problems since they are not covered by any recall or warranty program. My car problems should be covered by a recall or safety program from the NHTSA.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

I have a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid in excellent condition with approximately 34,000 miles on it with a history of no accidents and well kept maintenance. However, this morning with no notice the brake abs indicator lite up with a warning "regen braked disable" and "check brake system message center" for which I drove it directly to the Ford dealership. One hour later and two codes I have never heard of c-1475 and c-1312 and an estimate of $5400 for the repair left me in shock. Not under warranty. I don't understand a car barely used in 5 and a half years could have such a major catastrophic problem if it could not be linked to a problem with the manufacturer? I am lucky I was not on the freeway, as the breaks became difficult to use on the way to the dealership. Ford needs to own up to this problem, as there have been many complaints beginning as early as 2005 models. I understand wear and tear on a car is the responsibility of the owner, however, if it is maintained well and even the mechanic has never seen the hcu and ecu go out at the same time, Ford needs to own up to their mistake.
