It was Saturday morning and I was taking my daughter shopping for some school clothes, driving down ell t grasso blvd going to look for the interstate 95 driving 20 mph I hear this loud pop and my daughter screams and smoke comes out of the hood, and this loud noise from the engine I had no other choice but to pull over in heavy traffic open the hood and see my spark plug out of the engine never seen this happen before I was stuck there for about 3 hours until family members came and help this is my 2nd Ford Expedition but after reading this is a common problem I will never by another Ford again, I just think and wonder what would had happen if I was in the interstate 95 doing 55mph I probably wouldn't be writing this right, now thank god my daughter and me never made it to the interstate 95.

2 Loud Engine Noise problem

As I was slowing to stop at a stop sign the engine made an extremely loud noise. After investigating we found a spark plug loose under the hood. The spark plug blew out of the head and stripped out the threads. After looking this up on the internet I found it happens often but that there has been no recalls. My Expedition has a triton 5. 4 engine.

3 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2012

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle he noticed a loud noise and found that the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The fire caused damage to the residential garage, a neighboring home and another vehicle. The police and the fire department were contacted and a report was filed. The fire department was unable to determine the cause of the fire. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic pending an investigation. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 165,000.

4 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2005

Normal driving and heard loud noises under the hood. Turned out to be a blown spark plug in the passenger side head. I managed to pull off freeway after several miles and have it towed to dealer. Have just read about a lot of Ford truck owners experiencing the same issue with some experiencing it more than once! I am not happy. Truck at cars101 service dept now in hopes that it can be repaired but from I've been reading I'm not sure.

5 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2004

While driving 60 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the engine blew out, and needed to be replaced.

Failure Date: 08/26/2002

While driving, the engine stalled which caused the vehicle to lose brake power and, power steering. A loud noise came from the engine. The dealer had been notified, however they were unable to duplicate the problem mr.

7 Loud Engine Noise problem

While driving at highway speeds driver heard a loud noise, and engine began to shake. Consumer pulled over and parked. Vehicle was towed to dealer. The dealer replaced the spark plugs and cylinder heads.
