Wheel Bolts Problems of Ford Expedition - part 2

While traveling notice rear of vehicle shook. Pulled over and noticed 3 of the lugs: nuts: bolts broke off. Dealer has been notified .

While driving about 60 mph driver heard a loud noise coming from the rear end of vehicle. Right afterwards the left rear wheel came off due to lugs:nuts: bolts shearing off. The problem was corrected by dealership. On April 24th, while driving right rear wheel came off, sending vehicle into a guardrail and ditch. The lugs: nuts and bolts sheared off. There was a recall, 98v095, however consumer's failures happened prior to this recall, on the second incident there were 2 injured people, dealer paid for the first incident's repairs.

Consumer was driving on the highway with cruise control switch on. Then there was slight vibration. Consumer looked to the left side of him, and noticed that left side tire came off due to lugs: nuts and bolts shearing off.

The consumer has been experiencing problems with lugs: nuts. Lugs: nuts were loose. This happened after the vehicle was worked on for recall repairs. Recall98v096000. The manufacturer has been contacted.

Received recall notice 98v095000 in the mail. Called dealer, and was informed no parts available. Dealer received only limited supply of parts. Lugs: nuts sent according to vehicles sold.

Rear driver side lug nuts failed causing vehicle to fish tail, rolling over 4-5 times resting upside down. Two adult and three children ages 5,12 and 18 involved in the crash. One adult suffered broken neck in two places and crushed disc. One week hospital stay with surgery to remove crushed disc and fusion of two vertibrae. Other adult and two children suffered minor cuts and abraisions one child ejected from vehicle onto highway.

Right rear wheels are missing three bolts and lugs which have sheared off. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further infromation.

Lug nuts fell off causing wheel to detach and vehicle collision.

After making a turn the wheels never straightened up. Then the wheels came off, and the vehicle hit a brick embankment. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

Consumer experienceed problem with dealer honoring recall # 98s14 concerning checking vehicle for loose lugs: nuts. Dealer informed consumer that no recall 98s14 was found.

Rec'd notice 98v095000 & notified dealership. Took vehicle to 2 different dealerships & both times informed vehicle needs to be left for 3 days. Don't know when able to get to vehicle & do not know if parts will be available. Owner not satisfied with answers, and cannot leave vehicle that long.

Recall notice #98s-14 was issued, and consumer was informed that dealer would have these replacement lug: nuts at the 3rd quarter of this year, but no lugs: nuts are available. When consumer tried to contact customer service and asked for help, the representative was rude and told consumer that will get it, when they will give it.

Lug nuts failed prior to recall.

Consumer complained that mfr. /dealer not honoring mfr. Recall notice #98s-14/ NHTSA #98v-095 000 concerning lugs: nuts may not create sufficient clamp load, allowing wheel movement in relation to the hub/ rotor mounting surface.

Consumer complained of dealer / manufacturer not honoring recall notice concerning lugs: nuts. Recall notice infomed consumer that a second notice would be sent as of third quarter. It is alresady the fourth quarter and no notice was received. Dealer is unable to get parts.

Lugs nuts fell off causing rear tire to come off of vehicle prior to recall notice.

The vehicle's tire fell off while traveling at 70 mph, causing vehicle to skid down the freeway out of control. The tire went across the road striking another vehicle.

Was traveling 65mph, when right rear wheel just came off. Vehicle hit ground, hard. Driver was able to maintain control and pulled to side of road. Vehicle had rear end damage. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Mechanic indicated that bolts on wheel had been sheared off. Would need to replace hub assembly/ wheel and tire.

Recall parts not available for the lug nuts.

Lug nuts loosened causing the wheel to fell off while driving resulting in slight injury to passenger shoulder and arm. Yh.

Wheel lugs malfunctioned.

While driving the back left wheel came off due to 5 bolts breaking off.

While driving on secondary road, three lugs: nuts: bolts that hold wheel to axle sheared off, causing rear wheel to separate, fell off/rolled into nearby field, speed 45 mph, managed to maintain control of vehicle. Wheels recently rotated by dealer.

Recall 98v095 for wheel lug nuts problems on 1997 Expedition. While driving one of the vehicle's wheels came off the truck. When the consumer was able to stop the vehicle he noticed that all the lug nuts had broken off. The vehicle was taken to a garage where they determined that the truck had the wrong lug nuts on it. The consumer was then told that the year before a recall was issued and the lug nuts had been changed.

The rear driver's side wheel came off the vehicle due to a broken lug:nut. Dealer has vehicle now.

After having vehicle serviced technician noticed that wheel studs were broken. Consumer contacted dealer, consumer's vehicle did not comply with recall 99v099000 due to VIN. Please provide further information.

1000 miles after a tire rotation, right rear wheel fell off while vehicle was in motion, causing damage to back quarter panel and brake rotor, dealership stated wheel nuts were probably over tightened and caused wheel bolts to break, the other three wheels were checked and found to be tightened similarly, consumer states there gives no mention of recommended torque on the wheel nuts when rotating tires.

Recall number 98v095000; recall remedy did not correct the problem, while driving five lugs: nuts disengaged from the right rear wheel, causing the wheel and tire to nearly come off. Local dealer reimbursed owner for repairs. . Et.

While traveling at 25mph lugs: nuts and bolts began loosening. This was noticed as the wheel began to wobble and shake very hard. The consumer pulled over only to notice that the lugs were coming off. The dealer has been contacted.

Recall # 98v095000 Ford/lug nuts; owner received first notificaiton letter in June of 1998. Still waiting for the second notification from the manufacturer. First notification stated that a second notification would be sent in the fall of 1998.

Consumer received recall letter concerning lugs: nuts, recall number 98v095000 in June 1998. Consumer should have received second notifcation before taking the vehicle into the dealer for complete remedy, which has not arrived. Please give any further details.

Consumer has received a recall letter in June of 1998, for the wheel lugs: nuts: bolts, manufacturer recall #98s14 NHTSA recall #98v095000. Dealer has been contacted. The dealer says that they have no parts.

Recall # 98v095000 Ford/lugs: nuts. Owner has been waiting for repair over 5 months. Dealer never has parts to correct recall, and not able to tell consumer when parts will be available.
