Tire Blowout problems of the 1996 Ford Explorer - part 1

The contact owns a 1996 Ford Explorer. The vehicle had tbc corporation, stampede sigma tires, size p255/70/r16 with dot#upcutx61707. The contact stated when driving approximately 70 mph, the rear passenger tire suddenly blew out, causing the driver to loose control of the vehicle and roll over 5 times before it went airborne. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. A police report was filed. The vehicle was deemed destroyed on site. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

The contact owns a 1996 Ford Explorer. While driving 53 mph, the vehicle's front passengers side michelin tire blew out. The contact lost control of the vehicle and flipped over. She broke her back in four places on the right side and her right arm is currently in a splint. The contact was pregnant and lost her baby. She was airlifted to a hospital. A baby was in the vehicle and received several scratches. The vehicle was towed from the scene. A police report was filed. The engine size was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 285,000.

Tire blewout.

Ford Explorer with 4 firestone wilderness ht tires. While driving at highway speed on interstare 12 near milemarker 75 the left rear tire experienced a blowout. The tread separated from the sidewalls of the tires. I replaced all 4 tires but have the failed tire and digital photos if they are needed.

The right rear tire sidewall blew out in about 7 places on my 1996 Ford Explorer yesterday ( 11-11-01) on I-71 about 30 miles north of columbus ohio. At right around 65 mph I was very lucky that I could keep control of the vehicle and get it pulled over to the side of the road. After calling aaa for assistance the mechanic that came out to change the tire told me that this was a major tire failure. I would like to know what or now to follow up on this? The tire failed consistent with reports that are causing the recall of the firestone atx tires. The tread peeled off, the tire blew, and my wife lost control into a concrete median barricade. ( dot number: ).

While driving on the freeway, the right front tire blew out <shredded actually>. I lost control of vehicle, swerved to the left and sideswiped a vehicle in the lane next to me. I pulled to the right shoulder. I saw that the tire tread had seperated from the tire, and pounded the wheel well flat. I incurred damage to the left side of the vehicle as well. I am on a waiting list for tires, but I cannot find a tire replacement for my spare. I am therefor driving around on these dangerous tires, with no spare. I cannot sleep at night because of this accident, and I have to drive at least 500 miles a week for work. I still have nightmares. Rear tire suddenly blew off while cruising at 70mph along I-75 bridgeport, michigan. Car then swerved erratically. Thanks god I was driving on the right lane and able to control the car and pulled over to the shoulder. Almost got an accident. I experienced a tire blowout and lost control of my SUV. The SUV spun around 3 time and almost flipped over I started off in the right lane and ended up in the far left lane facing oncoming traffic. On a very warm day in may, I had a tire blow out. I thought it was a unique problem, however with all the firestone investigation and reports about defective tires, I believe that my tire was defective. After contacting both Ford and firestone dealers with my concern, I have been told that even though the NHTSA has issued warnings against my tires,they are under no obligation to replace my tires. According to press statements made by jason vines from Ford and christine karbowiak from firestone, if a customer has a concern about their tires, they will be replaced at no cost. Obviously, the Ford and firestone dealers are not honoring these comments and have been informed not to replace the tires until they have been recalled. I am extremely concerned with my tires and would appreciate any help and suggestions you have regarding my concern. Please contact me and inform me of how I should proceed. Consumer replaced both rear firestone wilderness at tires p225/70r15 dot w2uu due to tread peeling, 15-20 thousand miles later, while driving, rear tire experienced blowout, consumer was able to keep control and pull over, consumer is requesting reimbursement.

Spontaneous blowout left rear tire due to delamination of tread and inner sidewall. Inspection showed major identical damage on right rear also. Both tires replaced at owner expense. Firestone recall limits reimbursement to tires replaced after Jan. 1, 2000. Tire blew out from side as described by the 15" recall, tread was still good. Blowout was on interstate, fortunately person driving was able to safely get to side of road. Replaced all four tires after failure, however, still have spare. ( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 ).

I was driving on the freeway and the passenger rear tire blew. The tread separated and I skid all over the freeway. I was fortunate enough to not hit anything and managed to gain control of the car. However, at the time I did think I was going to flip the car. When the car stopped I looked at the damage. The tread had knocked of a part of the bumper, the running gaurd, and damaged the rear panel. In total it did about $2,500 worth of damage to the car. I also had all the tires replaced with a different brand of tire. At the time I thought this was an isolated incident and did not report the accident to anyone except for my insurance company. Vehicle experienced two tire blowouts due to defective firestone atx tires prior to recall(00t-005), consumer is requesting reimbursement. Dealer refused to honor the nationally issued recall and replacement of tires. P235-75-r15.

Firestone radial atx tire experienced blowout, dealer found rear tires also were damaged and replaced tires with another brand, consumer requests reimbursement for the replacement tires.

The back left tire blewout causing the vehicle to rollover coming to rest on it's left side, the drivers seat belt was found in the buckled position yet the driver was ejected, the driver was killed, one occupant sustained incapacitating injuries and the other han non-incapacitating injuries (texas peace offices accident report, bridgestone/firestone, p235/75r15, radial atx m/s, vdhl1pm415, left rear). With all the recent reports of the firestone tires I thought it was important to report my incident to see the full scope of the problem. My wife had just exited the freeway going about 50 m. P. H. When her tire blew out. She came close to losing control of the vehicle. I remember it as being a very warm, dry afternoon because I changed the tire and I was pouring sweat. My wife did not hit anything and the tire was not punctured, it just blew out and came apart. The shop that changed the tire said they saw no puncture the tire just blew apart. The firestone tire blew, the tread completely pealed off. This caused the vehicle to go out of control and flip over. It slid down the highway up side down for a few hundred feet before it slammed into a guardrail and stopped. The driver suffered abrasions from the deployment of the airbag. The passenger was banged around some and went unconscious at one point. He was taken to the nearest hospital, examined and treated. Towing expl. Behind motorhome on interstate 580. Left rear tire blew. We paid $500. 00 deductable. August 1999 while driving in alaska the right rear tire blew. Travelling on the FL turnpike on a very hot day at appx 70 mph the right rear tire casing blew off the tire. The inside tire stayed invlated. I drove off the expressway to the nearest firestone . They did not tellme this was a product defect and they should fix the damages to my vehicle. The tail light was smashed, the cowling around the wheel well was damaged. I paid to replace all 4 tires. I also had a tire blowout on the highway but no damage was done to the vehicle on that occasion. These tires are not included in the recall but maybe they should be. Please advise ASAP. Involved into auto crash 7/1/1998 serious injuries, months of hospitalization, right hip replaced. . . . Etc. Ex husband driving Ford Explorer, and lost control of the ve hicle front right tire was blown on vechicle. I still have the picture. This accident almost caused me my life, and now I'm permanently handicapped. I was unaware I had an avenue to report this to. Thanks for making this public. There were no other cars involved.
