The contact's father owns a 1998 Ford Explorer. While driving various speeds, the accelerator pedal would stick and then release. The accelerator pedal became detached from the floor. While attempting to pull into a mechanic's garage, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal hard because the vehicle would not move. The contact then proceeded to move the accelerator pedal with her foot, but the vehicle surged forward into the mechanic's wall. There were no deaths, injuries or a police report. The vehicle sustained damage to the front end. The manufacturer will be notified. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 119,031.
- the contact stated that after the 1998 Ford Explorer had been sitting for more than 30 minutes she proceeded to drive when the accelerator pedal felt stuck. Constant pressing on the gas pedal will release it, but in the process the vehicle lunges forward with great force. Updated 2/27/2007 -the vehicel was taken to the dealer who cleaned the throttle body. The problem has not returned.

The dealer test drove the vehicle, and told the consumer that they could not recreate the problem. Consumer was concerned about the vehicles safety, this problem has occurred about 20 times this year.
Nhtsa recall 00v422000; Ford issued a throttle recall. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN, although, accelerator got stuck and engine surged forward when accelerator was freed.
Ea99001; while driving accelerator pedal got stuck, causing sudden acceleration. Brakes only slowed down vehicle, would not stop it. Driver had to place vehicle in neutral, then shut off vehicle. Currently at the dealer.
Prior to the recall for the throttle 00 v 422 000, the part was replaced under warranty. Consumer received a recall letter, and the problem has recurred, the dealership briarwood Ford; saline mi;734-429-5478; is refusing to honor the recall. Ts the recall was previously repaired, thereby making it null and void. The accelerator pedal sticks until enough force is applied for the vehicle to lurch forward.
Gas pedal sticks after removing your foot. You must exert extra pressure on pedal to break it loose before accelerating. Does not seem to stick while driving. Dealer had already replaced defective throttle body 3 times so far - I am currently on my fourth throttle body part inside the first 15 months of ownership. Currently, it needs replacing again. The dealer indicated they replaced it with the new redesigned part on the last repair, but it did not seem to help. After the part is replaced, the problem goes away for a few months, and then returns.
The throttle assembly sticks. When I press on the accelerator it appears stuck. I must press harder than necessary to release the throttle so vehicle will respond. This is my third complaint and second throttle. Ted russell Ford in knoxville and don smith Ford in greeneville have been very cooperative and responded to my complaints. My concern is that this appears to be a reoccurring problem with the design of the part. In certain situations this condition could be very dangerous. I would like to have assurance that the most recent repair has corrected the sticking throttle, and I will not experience it again.
Consumer had an accident when gas pedal got stuck, then, vehicle accelerated, and lurched forward. Dealer replaced throttle body, speed unknown. Currently, consumer received recall on this component. The manufacturer denied any defective part exists.
Accelerator sticks whcih causes vehicle to become inoperable in traffic. After ten minutes vehicle is fully operational. Dealer has been contacted, but refused to contact manufacturer. Please provide further details.
When accelerator pedal got stuck and did not return to idle, vehicle ran off the freeway and landed on top of a tree. Vehicle is being looked at now.

Intermittently accelerator pedal will stick. A recall has been issued on vehicle; however this vehicle was not included due to VIN. The dealer has inspected vehicle.
Accelerator sticks when departing from stop. Will suddenly release and vehicle accelerates excessively. Engine at times will hesitate when accelerating from stop. Very dangerous when attempting to merge.
