8 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2001

For the second time in just a couple of weeks Ive had another one of my firestone (steeltex radials r4s) tires have a blowout and this time it included a complete tread separation. The tire location was the left rear inner tire. . . Temp outside was approx. 105 or greater (arizona). My highway speed was around 65mph. With less than 14000 miles on the tires, I should not be having this type of problem. Interesting to find out my tires are from the decatur plant, yet firestone refuses to admit there is a defect or theyre not designed to handle the heat in this area. Since this was my first trip since my last blowout, I have no confidence any of the remaining tires will last. Im replacing them all. Neither Ford nor firestone will meet me half way on the cost. 9 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2001

The front tire blew out causing me to lose control, then both rear tires blew. This seems pretty extreme for tires that had very little tread wear to out and not perform as they should. Even with a trailer attached, the Explorer rolled over and was uncontrollable. The Explorer was equipped with a Ford hitch and the trailer towing package. The weight of the trailer was under the weight specified by Ford, 4990 lbs. This accident should not of happened. (tiresize: p255r75x16)( dot number: tire size: p255r75x16 ).

12 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2000

I reported having problems with my tires to pulliam Ford and firestone dealers. I recieved a cold shoulder and a general lack of concern for my situation or my wellfare. Two days later I nearly killed myself on the way to work when my left right tire exploded and came of the rim for no apparent reason. I had my complaint formally documented my Ford motor company's headquaters on 9/12/2000, the blowout occured two days later. I had been experiencing problems sustaining air pressure in all four of my tires weeks previous. I also had my tire inspected for the problem by Ford who told me I had know problem. The tire that blew was not of the type listed on the recall meaning the dot # did not start with vd. I have reported my experience( blowout) to pulliam Ford this morning and recieved once again lack-luster service and a direct refusal to assist me in providing a safe vehicle for mine and my family's disposal. I can only imagine the consequences had I been going faster than 50 miles per hour, up to this point I just wanted a safe vehicle but, now I feel as if well being has been put at risk when it could have been avoided with little cost by these companies in which I invested my faith. Please help!( dot number: ).

Monday, July 31, 2000, I was driving home from the grocery store and my driver side rear tire blew out, the front passenger side tire I was having air capacity problems with for 2 weeks. Ford road side assistance came and changed my tire and put my original spare on the driver's side. I went to firestone and they replaced the tire with a new firestone wilderness at on the driver's side rear and patched the front passenger tire. With the pending firestone wilderness at tire recall on Ford Explorers, I feel fortunate that I was not travelling at an excessive speed on central expressway. I would like the potential danger noted, I had called my car dealership westway Ford and they had directed me to firestone who carries the warranty on the tires. They were very helpful, yet firestone replaced the original tire with the same potentially dangerous tire. Your response would be greatly appreciated. 23 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2000

On June 17, 1999 my wife, infant daughter and I were returning from vacation in our 1999 Ford Explorer entering atlanta, GA traveling west on I-20 merging into the I-85 / I-75 connector when the right rear tire blew out. The vehicle was extremely difficult to handle. Due to heavy traffic conditions and loss of control I had to bring the vehicle to a halt on the inside hov lane. I did not hit any debris on the road and it was clearly visible that the side wall of the tire had blown out. The traffic conditions were so hazardous that it took an atlanta, fulton county police officer with siren, flashing lights and horn to move my vehicle to the other side of the highway to get us clear of oncoming traffic. I had the vehicle towed to a goodyear dealership and the manager confirmed that the tire had blown out from the inside. I took the tire to the firestone dealer and the manager insisted that we had hit something in the road. I made it clear that we had not hit anything in the road and that I would take the matter up with the Ford motor company and my attorney. With that statement the manager agreed to replace the tire free of charge. I became suspicious with that quick turn around and contacted Ford motor company and they denied any knowledge of issues with firestone tires. I am incensed that firestone and Ford knowingly jeopardized my family by replacing this defective tire with another firestone wilderness tire. I have again contacted Ford motor company after the recent press release about firestone's issues with wilderness tires on Ford Explorers and once again they told me they could do nothing until they recalled the tires. I'm not sure which way to turn on this issue and I am seeking your advice on how to get this issue addressed. I do not want these tires on my Explorer. I now have no reason to trust firestone or the Ford motor company in this matter. Your guidance and counsel will be greatly appreciated. ( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 ).

24 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2000

I was in a car accident on June 16, 2000, with a passanger. We swerved to miss a deer on a gravel road and lost control of the Explorer. I was unaware of any problems with the Explorer at the time, and now since the tire recall, I beleive the tires may have blown when I "fishtailed". There was a similar accident to mine in minneapolis, 100 mies south of me, over the July 4th weeekend. I would like any information I could. My insurance company handled everything wonderfuly, but I was wondering if I or geico ins. , could recover any losses or damages from the bridgestone, Ford, or other. I broke my collarbone in the accident from my seatbelt, and have a very visible lump on my shoulder from it. I also have permenant scars on my hand from glass that broke. Not to mention I almost killed my friend and myself. My airbags did not go off either. Any help, comments, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kraig( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 ).

25 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2000

Tire blew when turning to parallel park - replaced with same. Since about 10,000 miles, the other 3 oe tires on vehicle have shown "peeling" rubber on the sidewalls to where the white inner belts are showing through in small areas. I had thought this was normal wear and tear in the south (I recently moved here from michigan) until I started hearing and reading in the last few days about the inherent problems with these particular tires. I am now extremely concerned about the potential danger of driving my Explorer with these tires. I would like to know what can be done to remedy the situation. Thanks. 27 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2000

I am wondering if any other tires are being added to the firestone/Ford recall. My reasons for inquiry are very serious in nature. On may 05, 2000, while looking out the rear view mirror of my Ford mustang, I watched my wife roll our 1999 Ford Explorer sport on the freeway at about 55 miles per hour. After my wife hit an object in the roadway, she began skidding perpendicular to the flow of traffic. While skidding, both driver's side tires blew out and initiated several complete rolls. The vehicle was totaled and I expected my wife would be dead. Luckily, she was wearing her seatbelt and did not sustain any serious physical injury. The tires on our Explorer were p235/70r 15 owl a/t. 21 century in our insurance and the policy # is ap1295570. I want to know if these tires might also be faulty. Please respond at your earliest convienence. ( dot number: tire size: p235/70r15 ).

35 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 11/11/1999

I was going to work at 0500 in the morning, south bound on interstate 5 at a speed of around 68 mph. I was traveling next to a concrete divider and in the middle of completing a curve in the freeway when my right front tire blew out from under me. Being in a turn the force from th blowout rendered my vehicle uncontrolable enough that I couldnt pull away from the wall in time. The front of the vehicle impacted first as soon as this happened the right rear tire also blew out. My vehicle was then riding on the two right rims until I came to a halt. When I tried to make a claim to firestone they refused my inquery saying I had hit a road hazzard causing both tires to blow out. It wasnt until my dad sent the report about the investigation from khou in houston, TX that I realized I wasnt the only one involed. I had to pay for all expenses on my vehicle and my insurance company ruled it my fault after reviewing the results from firestone's investigation so I am paying for it on my insurance as well.
