My firestone tires were replaced by Ford with tiger paws. After only a few thousand miles, while on a trip, my right front wheel split. The split tire did so along a row of three weights(14 ounces).

I understand that these tires were not made at the decauter plant, howerer, the tires are splitting and seperating at the letters and just above the letters they are cracking. The local dealer was the one that brought this to my attention. I tried to contact the manufactor but the advised me that they could not help me because the tires are not on the recall. 15 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2000

Had the original vdhl recalled tires replaced and now the new tires are already starting to vibrate/wobble at speeds greater then 40 mph. I am really concerned about these tires as the old set that I had that were recalled were doing the same thing before I had them replaced. The new ones now with about 1500 miles on then are starting to do the same thing. I had the vehical inspected and no problems such as balancing or alignment was needed as well as no other problems with the car. (dot number: w2hl tiresize: 15).

17 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2000

Although my tires had not yet failed, I was compelled to replace them with goodyear wrangler rt/s tires. This was done at my own expense. The firestone dealer that I went to for the inspection did not even look closely at them. He simply glanced at one tire and said "those are 16 inch tires and they haven't been recalled. They're fine. " they don't look fine to me. There are at least 34 incidents of my size tire on your complaints spreadsheet. There could be as many as 89 of them. That is enough for these tires to be added to your consumer advisory list. It's your responsibilty to protect us from this kind of design flaw. Please prevent further deaths by recommending the recall of every tire that's on the complaint list. Best regards, lyle geurin. ( dot number: vncu1px438 tire size: p255/70r16 ).

Failure Date: 09/01/2000

These tires started, the same type of cracking as did the 15"tires. We went to the Ford dealer and to a firestone dealer, the only thing they kept telling us was that the cracking was normal. And that there wasn't anything they could do , because they were not the tires being recalled. I travel @ 200 miles a day, and we also have a, now 10 mo. Old grandchild. We purchased some goodyear tires for the safefty of our family and fot peace of mind. We kept a close watch on the tires, and the cracks where increasing in size. We video taped the tires and have in on tape. We feel that firestone/ Ford, should reimburse us for the proration of the purchase of the new tires. And we feel that, NHTSA, should investigate and examine and if need be recall these other tires. Thank you, feel free to contact us, and veiw the video tape. Frank bosze e. My seventeen year old son, my only child has a 1999 Ford Explorer. He recently had a blow-out on one of the firestone wilderness at (p255/7016) tires. He was very, very fortunate in that he nor any of his three passengers were injured . They had just exited off a 4-lane 65mph highway and were near ing a residential area. There is no explaination as to why the tire exploded. We contacted the dealer but, they offered no help. A few days later we began to here of a possible recall . We then contacted the dealer again ,however , they explained that the 16 inch tires on my son's Explorer is not part of the recall. Please document this potentially fatal incident concerning the firestone tire. I am very concernered. My child's safety is my greatest concern! we have had an incident with a tire now listed on your consumer advisory dated sept 1,2000. If you advised a recall, how can they refuse? how many lives need to be lost before they agree? again I ask please document this complaint and push for total recall of all firestone wilderness tires. 26 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2000

Tires developed a loud roar. Air pressure varied from 32lbs. To 18. Vehicle does not feel as stable as other Explorer that I have had with different type of tires. Conway Ford says the tires were not made in ill. And do not need to be replaced. I feel that these tires are not safe and am afaid to drive on them. ( dot number: e4027477 tire size: p235-75r15 ).

27 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2000

We experienced a blowout on the highway at normal speeds in our Explorer. Both firestone and Ford have refused to discuss with us only saying that the 16 inch tires are safe. Ford referred me to firestone; firestone referred me to Ford. This blowout clearly shows that the tire was of substandard quality. We do routine maintenance on our vehicles and keep them serviced at all times, including the tires. This was not due to low tire pressure or neglect on our part. ( dot number: w2cu1px tire size: p255/70r16 ).

28 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2000

While inspecting my vehicle to see if the tires were the ones being recalled (I. E looking to see if they had the vd code and were made in decataur), I noticed that my tires have cuts located equidistantly from the center. They range in size fro 1/4" to 1" long and are located on 3 of the 4 tires. I've sent pictures to your webmaster, however, he said to file a complaint using this form. While do not know if these cuts are related to the recall problem, I do feel that they represent a process or material problem with all of the firestone tires. I have tried going through Ford and firestone to get replacements, but they have not been very helpful. I'm currently in the process of getting new tires to ensure my safety. If you'd like additional information, please feel free to contact me. Denise welsh( dot number: ).

31 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2000

I barely escaped crashing my car as I lost control due to the tire going flat at a high rate of speed. I went to nearest tire dealer and replaced all tires at a cost of $400. I called the dealership where I purchased the car and they told me to call firestone. I did and they told me to call back later. I am hoping they will help reimburse me for the costs of the new tires. Please advice me if there is anything else I can do to recover some costs. Thank you. Kathy post( dot number: ).

32 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2000

Wilderness at's cracking - I live in in michigan!! : hi, I'm trying to get replacement tires, mine are cracking. On 8-19 I went to tommy's firestone in novi, mi per the firestone 800 number. They had tires, but would not replace, said I would have to pay $500-$600. Manager "tom" showed me how 2 on my tires are cracking all the way around. 8-20 I went to cm super tire (firestone) in livonia, mi and was told "we don't do recalls on sundays" and they didn't have tires for free, I would have to pay. Last week I got on a "wait list" at a Ford dealer. Please call me, thanks!!!! 734-657-0913. ( dot number: vd????? tire size: 235-75-15 ).

Tire came apart when SUV went on to black top in 105deg. Temps. From a gravel road. No sign of problem on tire until we drove onto asphalt. At that time we came from a full stop and by the time we accelerated to 30mpg the tire had failed and the tread separated from the core. ( dot number: tire size: 255/70r16 ).

34 Tire problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2000

Vehicle experienced a blowout of the wilderness at tires while driving on freeway causing the vehicles back end to sway, the blowout ruined the rim and the cap that covers the lug nuts came off. Nlm.

35 Tire problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2000

We had come to a complete stop in traffic when we heard what sounded like a "gunshot". The right rear tire quickly went flat and I assumed from the sound that we had experienced a "blowout". The tire was able to be repaired (patched). I realize that the recently announced recall of firestone tires is currently limited to 15" tires, however, this is the 3rd flat tire we have had in less than a year (2 were punctures which I realize doesn't enter in to the problem). I will never feel comfortable with these tires or safe. We were just lucky that we weren't traveling at a high speed when this tire "blew". We have a small son and this vehicle is our primary transportation. I believe the tire recall should be expanded to include the 16" wilderness at tires as well.
