46 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2009

My 2002 Ford Explorer eddie bauer v8 has required a transmission at 35k & 85k miles. This is a huge safety concern when the car fails without warning!!!! I'm not alone in dealing with this incredibly costly & dangerous predicament. Please take action! I'm reading that the design of the transmission is apparently bad. Quoting another's description: "after lots of research it appears the most likely cause is worn case bore, where the pin for the 2nd gear & overdrive band servo actuator passes through the case. If the people designing these machines spent even a bit of time in their lives working with their hands on real parts they would know better than to pass a hard steel pin in a wear point fashion through a softer aluminum casting. It is no wonder so many transmissions experience this problem. " you would think when my transmission was replaced the 1st time that Ford would have been required to solve this problem by putting brass casings on the pins to ensure the safety of the vehicle. Now, I'm having to get a 2nd transmission, & since I didn't take it to Ford, they are replacing the transmission with this fix implemented. I shouldn't have to bear the $3500 needed to replace the transmission. Ford should stand by their products, but since they won't, I hope that you can require them to do so! thanks! I identified this as an equipment failure because the transmission that came with the car was obviously defective to require a new one at 35k miles. My car is dead at a shop so I can't look at the transmission to give you any product information. The date I provided for equipment is the date the 1st transmission was replaced. I am the original owner & purchased the car new. I am assuming that the 1st transmission failed due to the pins. There's no way to check the transmission fluid because it's a closed system, which has also been a problem. . Read more...

56 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2008

The od light on my 2002 eddie bauer Ford Explorer began blinking accompanied by check transmission light. We traveled slowly home amidst whirring and crunching sounds. The car is parked in the driveway and obviously the transmission is shot. The Ford mechanic told me it would close $2800 to fix the transmission and in response to my questions regarding power train, suggested that we fix the rear power train for $1600. Just a week ago, on the way to my daughter's wedding, 4 hours from home, the low oil pressure light began blinking with warning sounds. The car was towed to a Ford dealer and repaired. We picked it up a week later driving 4 hours on busy through ways and highways, when the transmission lights, as noted above, started blinking. About 3 weeks ago, we had the wheel bearings replaced as well as other repairs. However, the transmission failure and upcoming power train failure make the car unreliable and dangerous to drive.

58 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2008

Transmission failed in my 2002 Ford Explorer. . I wish I would have researched the 2002 before I purchased the car. If I knew then what I know now I would have never bought this truck. This is the second issue I've had with Ford, my 1996 Ford Explorer had the issues with the tires and it took people losing their lives before Ford and federal government finally recalled the tires on the trucks. I gave Ford another chance and purchased my second Ford Explorer. . Never again will I ever purchase another Ford Explorer or any other Ford products. I will not even get the trans fixed , I traded the truck in for a chevy and will never purchase Ford again. If you look all the complaints about the trans , why would Ford and feds wait to recall these cars?.
