The contact owns a 2006 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle engine seized. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road. The contact parked the vehicle and allowed the vehicle to set for a while. The vehicle was started. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven a 100 yards and the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Complete failure of the powertrain electrical harness. Heat degradation to wire insulation has exposed all conductors. Several other owner operators have experienced the same issue wherein the dealer has attempted repair of existing trouble codes, by replacing sensors, modules and components. Problems range from vehicle shut-off at speed, vehicle fires, no-start and failed pcm modules due to short to power or short to ground. Based on my findings, this specifically impacts vehicles ranging from 2006-2010, Ford Explorer or Mercury mountaineer with the 4. 0l sohc engine.
Driving on speed limit I stopped at a light, car engine went dead. I turned key off and waited a few minutes, turned key on, car started as nothing was wrong. It has happened 3 times in the past year. Battery and alternator are pretty new. Decided to take to an authorized mechanic dealer, couldn't find anything wrong with the engine. Really? what if I was driving in a highway? certainly I wouldn't be alive to report it!.
Transmission is slipping bad and car not shifting into drive.
The car was sold with limited warranty, used, but had written cold start issue. The vehicle gets warm if warm outside and will just completely shut off anywhere at anytime. Riding down interstate, will lose power then shut off and leave you with no power steering to control vehicle going high speeds, will shut off in town multiple times upward of a dozen or more times while driving, 1st shop sent to said couldn't find issue second they sent me too said computer needed replacing. Either way I never would have purchased it without it being done had u known, my fiance is small and no way she could handle the vehicle if shutting down while driving. Its very dangerous and is going to get someone killed if not repaired and looked into more closely.

The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
Check engine lite and orange wrench lite which shuts car down no excelration pedal power steering gone and no brake control on freeway coming home. Trans. Will not shift and jumps when wrench lite is on very dangerous this has been going on since April took back to dealer sent to mechanic replaced 2 parts on excelleration module. Still not right.
I own a 2006 Ford Explorer eddie bauer , bought used in 2011/61000k. Since 2012 the car started showing problems with the power steering and /or engine. When driving at 35-40 mph on a highway the car started to surge forward, then back, keeping surging until the car reached a higher speed of 60. If driving on a hill, it will loose its speed. I took the car to Ford dealer and they couldn't find the problem. The car now is 120000k, still same problem. Very disappointed with Ford that will not take responsibility for the problemas.
Driving on a highway I-95 in florida. The vehicle started to miss as we accelerated. We took the car into a Ford dealer service for plug replacement. This auto has a 4. 6 litre v-8 engine. We were amazed to find that it will cost upwards of $1000. 00 to replace 8 spark plugs. That cost esculates if any plugs are broken. The plugs are two piece construction and separate on removal. Only Ford can remove the plugs and more will be charged for any broken. It is impossible to remove these plugs without breakage. Ford recommends not changing the plugs until 100,000 miles. By that time you are out of guaranty and if they are hard to come out at 60,000 miles imagine if they are left in. These plugs are known to blow out of the head and I am sure there are many accidents. I am a disabled veteran 83 years old and a mechanical engineer. My wife and I are fishermen and need a vehicle to bring our boat to water. We are avid Ford owners and are greatly dissapointed.
Takata recall.
My car slowed down to a craw in the highway and had to limp home at very low speed almost caused a crash.
Does the class action lawsuit concerning spark plugs include this model of Explorers? the v8 4. 6l eddie bauer edition-if not, it should, as we were told the same info on sparks plugs breaking off if not done with a special extraction tool. We had diagnostics done and depending on what happened when removed and changed could cost anywhere between $600-$1500. Specifically told "do not attempt yourself. " service was performed June 19, 2014 by a local Ford dealer.
Dear sir first of all , I would like to state that I am not a us citizen , but , I'm a family man & I feel for others , I own a Ford Explorer 06 , and recently I've been noticing that the trans has a mind of it's own , shifting wrongly , jolting into gear is not enjoyable or safe, the other day I was about to have an accident because the trans refused to shift when I tried to accelerate in order to escape a situation of hitting a car next to me , I've looked it up on the internet & found that everybody is complaining of the same issues , you can go for the below site & check. . I was driving 25 mph and turning left to a small street. I saw an engine light show on, and then the engine stop. At that point, I couldn't turn the wheel, and also it was so difficult for me to stop the vehicle. I had mention this problem at the Ford dealer in greenfield, MA who fixed my abs break about two weeks ago. A person at the service responded, " that's normal. Our computer does not see other issue beside the abs. " I spend $85 for diagnosis the abs break problem and spend almost $500. 00 to fix the break. I took my vehicle to a small body shop in my area. This person ran the computer through the vehicle system, and the computer did not shown any problems. Then, I called Ford corporate and tried to get some advice from the company. The company said I should take the vehicle to a different dealer to get other opinion. Meaning that I have to pay another $85. 00 again, and I still do not know I will get an answer or not. My concern, I do not want to cause an accident.
Transmission disengaged at red light. It started going backwards instead of forward. Had to put into park and then back into drive to get it to drive. Still going on. Now when actually on the road it is getting out of gear when vehicle is at driving speed. Engine revs up to 5000rpms, then down to 1000rpm. Vehicle lunging. Will get hurt I'm sure.
Upon starting the vehicle it suddenly excelerates. I now keep my foot on the brake at all times immediately following ignition. It has has happened four or five times in the last several months. I have owned the vehicle since 2007 when I purchased it from ocala Lincoln Mercury as a Ford certified vehicle. It had approximately 14,000. Today it has only 54,230 mostly highway. That is less than 7000 miles per year. Itr has regular services at my local for dealer. All of my repair records are obtainable through the Ford motor company.
Just like many others who have reported the same issue with their 2006 Ford Explorer, when backing out of the driveway, I put the vehicle in reverse. There was a jerk as the transmission seemed to finally engage. I thought the trans broke at the time? this has happened more then once. I have also experienced the same issue as others with the delayed shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. My Explorer has just 88k miles on it.
Range shifter needs to be replaced, truck is jerking with acceleration and changing going between 1st to 5th gear jolting the vehicle. Very big safety issue as I have almost been rear-ended multiple times. Ford says no recall on transmission issues. Mine is a 6r60 transmission in the 2006 eddie bauer Explorer which has the range shifter located inside transmission. Will cost $2300 to fix!.
While trying to stop my vehicle suddenly accelerated and I had to put it in neutral to come to a stop. I pulled into a parking lot and shut the engine off and then started it up again and my engine revved at around 4000 rpm. The only way I could drive the vehicle home was to keep constant heavy pressure on the brakes. It always wanted to accelerate.
Engine lost power and began vibrating. Engine driven to dealership and engine light came on. Dealership states "seized" spark plug but because part is defective wants to replace all eight plugs. Unable to quote cost as plugs are known to break off during removal. Plug replacement recommended orginally to be 100000 now dropped to 60,000. Service writer stated "you must have had someone messing with your spark plugs". Told him no one has serviced my car but his dealership. Special tool designed by Ford to remove these plugs. Cost cannot be quoted ($946 for one plug changeout plus full service fuel service prior to removal to "loosen" up carbon buildup which they say causes the problem with plug breakage) but cost runs into thousands of dollars and shavings from reboring the plugs for replacement of different design plug can cause engine to be damaged. Car purchased new in 2006. Only driver. Only dealer serviced. This is a terrible problem.
I have been having some misfiring spark plugs on my truck. We are pricing them out and are finding out that they are very hard to replace and they break off inside the engine! dealers do not recommend replacing them yourself and it costs $300 to have them do it, then $100 for every spark plug that breaks during that process, plus the $19 for each motorcraft brand plug! this could cost us up to $1500 just to replace spark plugs?! this is insanity!!! not only does it build up carbon but it is also a 2 piece plug and it breaks apart! this needs to be recalled! people are spending a fortune just to replace spark plugs! its sick!.
We bought the used vehicle in March 2012 with a 30 day warranty. During the first month, noticed engine slipping (usually around 45 mph). Checked fluids, added coolant and naively thought the problem would go away, and it seemed to for about a month. However, the engine/transmission slippage has gotten much worse since then. We are constantly adding coolant and driving very carefully to avoid a hard jerk in the transmission around 45 mph. When we took it to the local Ford dealership, they said that the "transmission was probably shot" but that they could change the spark plugs "for about $250 each even though that probably wouldn't help. " how in the world can a spark plug be this expensive to change? the dealership charged us nearly $200 to run diagnostics for a problem that we now know is related to this particular vehicle. This should have long ago been a recall, and Ford should be ashamed of itself for not fixing the problem sooner.
Purchase this vehicle in 2011 once it was home within 3 months began having problems, I also purchase the Ford extended warranty and took it back to the dealership. They explained they could not find an issue with the transmission. It jolts, lunges, and sometimes the transmission doesn't engage. I feel extremely unsafe trying to pull out at an intersection because the car starts to jolt and I have to slam on the gas in order for the car to go. It is horrible and I feel very unsafe driving; especially with my children in the car. Even if I am driving on the interstate I have to put the car into overdrive to stop the majority of the jolting, and that does not even guarantee it will stop. It has been a battle with the dealership. Had it independently checked by aamco and the transmission replaced, but the issue still occurs. Not sure what can be done. This vehicle needs to be recalled.
When I moved from park to drive the transmission jolted and slammed into gear. . . Today while driving the truck went from 40 to about 10 mph and will not go above this speed.
Having problems with fluid overflowing to the overflow tank, overheating and cylinder misfire readings.
Shifting of transmission slams hard on a fast take off, then at 45 or above cycles gears and won't stay in overdrive.
My 2006 Ford Explorer jerks and jolts extremely hard while coming to a stop. The first time I took it in for the warranty repair they reprogrammed the computer which seemed to help for a few months. Today I returned for the same problem only it is three times as bad as before. They told me at first it was the drivers fault. Then they came back and said it was normal operation. My neck is very sore from all the jerking and jolting it has received from this car. In fact my neck is burning right now from pain.
We have taken our 2006 Ford Explorer with just over 20,000 miles on it into the shop 3 times due to intermittent lose of power when starting out. The computer software has been reloaded 2 times. The last time I took it in I told the dealer to keep it until it was fixed. After 2 days they said they could find anything wrong but believed there was a problem. Ford then asked us to drive a unsafe car to trouble shoot it for them with a flight recorder hooked up to the computer. Ford care and the dealer are both not willing to call back and fix the car.
Engine compartment fire.
