In September I started to notice a strong fuel odor coming from my 2013 Ford Explorer. I had the exterior of the vehicle cleaned thoroughly to ensure no gasoline was spilled on the vehicle while refuelling. The smell did go away temporarily, until I refuelled the vehicle. The odor has returned, and will not go away. On 10/6/2025 I took my vehicle to a local mechanic that works on my vehicles. A visual inspection was performed and they informed me that there is a leak and it appears to be coming from the top of the tank or an area above the tank. It is hard to identify the exact source without lowering the tank. They mechanic also informed me that Ford has a safety recall issue for something similar, 13s04. I checked with Ford and while there is a recall for the same model and year of my vehicle, my 2013 Explorer is not a part of the recall. I have contacted a local Ford service center and am waiting for a response from them.
Service advancetrac light came on while driving. Lost all propulsion and power steering. Almost went off road around a curve due to no power steering. Ford dealership diagnosed it as faulty steering sensor. Had that replaced about 18 months ago, now this near accident just happened. Service trac light traction control light are both on with no propulsion or power steering. I’ve been doing research on this and this seems to happen to a lot of Ford owners as Ford is the only manufacturer to produce vehicles with advancetrac system. How has this not been a recall yet?.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that upon approaching the vehicle she smelled a strong odor of gasoline inside her inclosed garage, after which, she overserved gasoline leaking from underneath the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel delivery module. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 15v812000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 55,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, an unknown warning message and light illuminated. The contact pulled to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. The contact waited 4 hours for the vehicle to cool down and then refilled the vehicle with coolant before successfully restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to 3 different independent mechanics to be diagnosed, however, the same water pump failure was given by each independent mechanic. The vehicle was repaired by the most recent independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

This winter I began starting my vehicle and letting it warm up before driving it. After letting it run approximately 10 to 15 minutes, I opened my door and to get in and there was a very strong exhaust smell inside. I would have to roll my windows down to clear the cabin of the fumes. This happened every single time I would let it sit and warm up. There is also something happening with what I believe is my drive-train. There is a lot of different noises (squealing/whining, grinding (metal to metal), clanking and thumping) when I give it gas after sitting at a light. As soon as I step on the gas pedal it makes all the above noises and jerks, then acts like it doesn't want to go. It finally kicks in then goes. Once it kicks in, it drives just fine. The noise sounds like its coming from the undercarriage and sometimes the rear end. I am not driving the vehicle now, it is parked in my driveway, so I am currently without transportation. There is also a very loud popping noise coming from the front end. I was told this could be ball joints or possibly stabilizers.
My water pump failed while driving which made the car overheat and instantly shut off while driving. I have maintained the engine. The internal water pump is leaking the coolant into the motor. Why an internal water pump?.
I have been going through multiple sites trying to figure out what is going on with my car. I have only had my vehicle for less than a year and I barely even gotten to drive it. I'm now realizing every recall on the vehicle which there was like 13 has not been repaired. And I also have 4 different numbers for the odometer when I when I bought the vehicle at a 177000 but everything is reading at a 169000. I also purchased the vehicle in June not July like the title says. Also one of the titles said plate's not allowed. When I looked it up I believe this is a fleet vehicle and it does not say that anywhere on my title or in my paperwork. It did come from canada. Is there any way you could possibly help me out with any of this? also I had broken fuses and missing fuses. I had the 4 dealership look at it and a mechanic look at it and they both told me it looked like someone messed around with the wiring in my car.
Smelling a weird smell coming from the cabin like carbon monoxide smell .
My wife was driving the vehicle and it quit running without any warning . She was on city street. She pull over and left it sit. We when back and re-started it with no problem and drove it home. It has done this a second time a couple days later, she said it chugged and quit. It set for about 15 mins. Before I re-started it with no problems. The wrench ligth comes on but no codes are showing.
I have a check engine light on was told it was the fuel lid. It now chugs and seems like transmission . When it rains water gets in car. Which goes into our electricity system. Our usb doesnt work all the time. My controls for sun roof does not work the screen is stuck open. I am on medicein that I can not be exposed to light. Gas problem started right after oil change.
Computer voice comand 80 mph governor.
I have received carbon monoxide poisoning from driving my 2013 Ford Explorer. I also have had the front end looked at and repaired had to pay most of the costs (extended warranty paid for some) for the front end popping sounds while turning. The sound is still there and on both sides now. So money wasted towards Ford!! the vehicle isnt drivable at this point and that leaves me without a vehicle.
My car is leaking fuel under the hood of the vehicle - so much fuel that it has soaked the cover on the engine block and the cover across the top of the interior of the hood. It is actually dripping down when I lift the hood. It is so strong on the interior of the vehicle that I can taste it in my mouth/lungs when I sat in the vehicle.
Since I've had this vehicle it jerks back and clicks as the transmission switches gear. Normally between 3 and 4th gear it seems. More importantly its overheating and leaking coolant! same issue as fusions and other SUV Ford offers. This seems to me like a fire hazard that should be recalled in all Fords. It leaks when parked. And overheats if the ac is in use. The leak was out of nowhere and suddenly. The fuel sensor is also weak.
For the last two month, my vehicle have had a oil burning smells, I changed the oil, but the smell is still there. This is right after I turn on the heat.
Throttlebody p2111 code. Loss of engine power. Not covered by factory service bulletin 13n03. Why not?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer . The fuel delivery module had a crack in it and was leaking fuel underneath the vehicle. The dealer causeway Ford Lincoln 375 NJ-72, stafford township, NJ 08050 (609) 597-8083 confirmed the issue and they stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The dealer was performing the repairs at this time. The manufacturer stated that there was no recalls and referred the contact to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was 78,000. Tf.
Frequent fume smells coming from the exhaust. I drive with my babies ages 3 and 4. I'm afraid this will have an effect on their health as well as mine. Sometimes we get headaches and I feel it's from being in this vehicle. Electric problems with the sunroof. Not working and unable to close.
Vehicle experiencing intermittent engine shut off under all driving conditons which exhibits a serious and dangerous situation when the vehicle abrubtly loses total power while driving. This has recently been an issue in the past two weeks while my wife and kids were driving on the freeway at 70 mph in traffic. Vehicle started back up once the ignition was turned completely off and waited a few minutes to start the vehicle back up. This scenario occurred on the freeway, in town driving and while stopped at traffic light. Contacted local Ford dealership and all they said was to bring it in. I had a mechanic check it out and he was unable to retrieve any engine codes while running an ecu scan. There are several complaints noted online with other Ford Explorer owners who have attributed it to a "terrain management" fault. This is the same diagnosis my local mechanic came up with. This results in the engine control module to receive a throttle position in the wide open indication causing the vehicle to shut off. The vehicle is currently being operated in oahu, hawaii. I am currently deployed to the middle east so I am very concerned for the safety of my family while this is the only mode of transportation available to them.
Pursuant to NHTSA investigation # ea 17-002 opened on 7/27/17, I am experiencing the periodic exhaust odors in my vehicle detailed in that report. All relevant recalls have been performed, which have not fixed the problem.
I attempted to slow the vehicle, preparing to stop. I was traveling between 65/70 mph. When pressing on the breaks the vehicle did not slow down. I pumped the breaks. The cars in front of me where at a stop and getting closer very quickly. I pushed as hard as I could on the break and then tried to push on the emergency break located on the floor. It only kicked back. Seconds later I had a direct impact with the vehicle in front of me. Airbag deployed! there are no skid marks on the road! the vehicle would not stop!!!.
"takata recall" odor problem when accelerating. My child was diagnose being on the spectrum. Might be because of the carbon monoxide who knows. There is also a leak on both rear seat belts my kids always get dretched with water running down their car seat and clothes. Catching colds and pneumonia. So frustrating.
Carbon monoxide odor has been getting worse. Every time I drive I begin to feel nauseous and get a headache. I have 2 boys, my 11 year old agrees it's a strong odor and he begins to feel dizzy. I fear to even have my children especially my 1 year old in this vehicle anymore and they were the reason I purchased it. I've had my vehicle in a certified Ford dealership twice now since I purchased a few months ago has ever mentioned this issue! this needs to be recalled and repaired! does someone need to be hospitalized or die before something is done. I finally looked online to see if this was a common issue and of course it is! please fix this, an investigation over a year now and nothing has happened. You have a reputation to uphold.
Wrench light came on as the vehicle was traveling at approx 55 mph on a city hwy & vehicle slowed dramatically & idled roughly. After turning it off & letting it sit for a minute it restarted and seemed ok. I took it to the dealer to check & they checked & said it threw a code p2111 & they isolated it to a stuck throttle body. They replace the throttle body and cleared the code.
Exhaust fumes when running ac still a problem after the field service action performed by the Ford dealer. Causing headaches and lightheaded after driving with ac on my commutes due to long time exposure to fumes in the cabin. Have to turn off ac and open my windows. Feel unsafe driving my vehicle cannot use ac and California temperatures in the summer over 90 degrees.
2013 Ford Explorer was driving down the road at 60 mph when all of a sudden accelerator stopped working and wrench light came on. I lost all acceleration ability. Luckily I was in minimal traffic and was able to coast off to the side of the road. As I was pulling over, the vehicle sputtered a few times and I killed out the vehicle and let it sit for a minute then restarted with no trouble.
Continue to smell a bad odor from vents. Contacted Ford, went to dealer today, did free fiix, but problem not still exists. It does this occassionally and last few minutes.
Continue to smell a bad odor from vents. Contacted Ford and wanted to bring it in but will cost money to have it checked out. It does this occassionally and lasts a few minutes. Previously have smelled a strong gas odor which made me have a severe headache for hours. Thought there going to be a recall. Have 2013 base model.
My Explorer has an issue when stopped and in drive with the ac on the car pulls/lunges foward as if I hit the gas/ also when im parked and the air con is running at some point the engine goes down below 500 rpms then kicks up to 700 to compensate then kicks down to below 500 , over and over again. If rev the engine a bit, then it goes back down to normal idle and its fine for maybe 10 minutes then does it all over again. This can be a safety issue as the car pulls itself foward with no human interaction. There is multiple websites declaring this is a known issue for this car. Google 2013 Explorer rough ac idle you will see lots of people commenting on it.
Door panels out of line. Rpms drop to 0 while sitting, carbon monoxide, front end noise, seat broke, back vents poured water in, transmission slipping blinker switch replaced, modular replaced, back up camera system replaced. Front end worked on more than 7 times.
Taka ta recall I am smelling gas fumes inside of the car when I drive its especially bad when I have my heat or air conditioning on. I only smell it when the car has been in motion for a couple of minutes.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. Within less than a week of owning the vehicle, carbon monoxide entered the vehicle. The dealer (skalnek Ford, 941 s lapeer rd, lake orion, mi 48362, (248) 693-6241) stated that there was a TSB that could be performed on the vehicle. An unknown part was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but they were unable to provide a solution. The manufacturer issued three recalls on the fuel system. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA action number: ea17002 (structure, engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Cabin has a very very strong smell of natural gas. It is very concerning. It is toxic to breathe and dangerous! my vehicle seems unsafe to drive!.
