For the last 4 months I have been smelling exhaust when I drive with the ac or heater on. I took the car into Ford for an inspection in October, and while they couldn't find anything wrong, they did quote me for $1,400 to fix what might be the problem. They also asked if maybe I was just smelling other fumes with the windows down. I took the car to a private mechanic who inspected it and said it wasn't safe to drive and that Ford should be covering this. I just called the dealership on 11/16/17 to try and get an appointment for the customer satisfaction program (17n03). They told me they will not be getting parts in for another month. This is not acceptable! I am driving my 3-year-old around in this car, without the heater on trying to minimize the fumes. Meanwhile Ford is telling me that the media has blown this out of proportion and only police vehicles should be getting the fixes.
Today, I was driving down the highway with my ac on and began to smell a strong odor of fuel. As I drove the smell got stronger. I finally got to my destination 10 minutes later and felt sick and had a headache.
When I drive for a couple of miles. I start smelling gas fumes in the inside of my car. Even after I get out of my vehicle and put my nose to the hood I can smell gas fumes.
This vehicle has the exhaust fume issue where the cabin fills with exhaust fumes and is difficult to drive due to the smell. You have to drive with the windows down in order to tolerate driving. The recent recall was done - vehicle taken to dealer to have the ac reprogramed and tailgate seals inspected. This did not work. We will be trading the vehicle in and purchasing another vehicle soon. This issue needs to be addressed. Ford has had too many safety and quality issues that go ignored by the manufacturer. This vehicle also has the peeling paint issue that Ford refused to address as well. Poor quality - unacceptable.
Over 2700 complaints and 41 injuries to date with exhaust issue that is releasing large amount of carbon monoxide into the cars through the vents was found to be the problem for my 2013 Ford Explorer this past Monday at world Ford in pensacola FL. I was told by the service dept that this was the same issue that all of these other Explorers have had and that the expensive repairs don't work anyway. Ford has bought back 3 just from this dealer alone and several cars have elected to have the repairs done but according to all of the many websites with complaints on this issue- the repairs either don't help or make it worse. I found out today after being on the phone with more people that I can count from the 800 # at Ford and the service dept, that this dealership "isn't willing to participate in any repairs" and was then told to handle it with Ford consumer affairs. . . Who keeps pushing me back on the service dept. I don't know what's more un-nerving about this. . . That Ford knows just how big of an issue this is and they haven't done a formal recall yet or that it's documented that I am a single mom, with one of my children having asthma and I've had horrible headaches and stomach aches for the last year- never knowing why we've been so sick until a few days ago but no one wants to do anything about it! so, I'll file a complaint with the bbb and will blast a review on every social media site that's connected to Ford until someone steps forward and either tries to see if a repair will work or will buy it back from me, allowing me to trade it in for something safe! how many people need to be sick or die from carbon monoxide poisoning or continue to have wrecks from passing out from the carbon monoxide poisoning before Ford actually does a full recall and fixes our cars that we all paid a decent amount of money for? horrible smell, loss of power, poor gas mileage.
Carbon monoxide / exhaust enter into the cabin during daily driving. Confirmed with gas detector.
I recently went into my car and begin driving it and noticed an awful smell of boiled/ rotten eggs or sulfur smell and could not understand what this could be, so after during some research on google I saw that this was a common issue and brought it into my dealership who I take my car to for all of my routine maintenance. I am able to present them with all of the technical service bulletins (TSB) about this issue and the folks here have no idea about. If the car is driving at any rate windows up or down the car has this awful odor. The odor was so bad that when I pulled it into the dealership service center it completely filled the dealership and had everyone complaining (mainly employees). But they had no idea about the issues with these trucks. I am curious why there hasn't been a recall on something that seems to be reoccurring issue but I am even more disappointed that Fords employees don't know these common issues with their cars. It is not possible to drive in that car without this being fixed and I definitely believe it can cause an accident or worst end lives. I will not be able to put my kids in this car as long as this remains an issue.
The smell of gas through the ac vents at all times. It is especially strong when the air is first turned on.
There is fuel fumes throughout the interior causing headaches.
I believe that carbon minoxide has been leaking into the cabin of my 2013 Explorer limited. I often notice that after driving my vehicle I will feel very lethargic, sleepy, nauseous, or have a bad headache. Sometimes I can even taste gasoline in my mouth. It causes a slight burning sensation in my throat. I've had this vehicle since August 2015. I have noticed that I've felt sick with the symptoms mentioned above more often than not since I started driving this vehicle. Ford motor company has acknowledged this issue with the Explorers to a certain extent. However, it seems as though nothing has officially been done to fix the issue to protect consumers. I am extremely disappointed that Ford motor company hasn't issued a formal recall for these vehicles. I don't feel safe!!!.
Throttle position. Fuel peddle doesn't always accelerate when being pushed. As I pull out the car may accelerate or may not. Sometimes it suddenly lurches. Very scary when crossing through traffic. My mechanic said it's going to be me t-boned.
Randomly honks with and with fob in or near car and without the car running. Check engine light comes on after getting fuel, and sometimes it does not stop the gas when pumping. . . . Send a code for sensor in fuel compartment. . . . Door panels crack.
Exhaust fumes in the car. Covered by TSB 12-12-04 and 12-14-0130. We smell fumes and its unbearable to drive. When we drive the smell gets worse and worse.
My 2013 Explorer hood was peeling and I have to have it repainted. It was rusting. Also I smell fuel fumes inside the vehicle, it is so bad, you have to stop the car and get out to breath.
There is a very prominent fuel smell in the cabin of the car. This is prevalent while the car is running, air vents are turned on, and the car is either stopped (such as in traffic, stopped at a traffic light, etc) or slowly rolling. The fumes are so bad it sometimes burns my eyes and I have to shut off the heat in the car so it will stop circulating. This occurs regardless if I am accelerating or just driving slowly. I first noticed this in June of 2017. I have recently been getting dizzy after driving the vehicle and have 3 small children that I have to drive around in it.
This make/model/year has a known factory defect that caused the exhaust manifold to blow exhaust directly into the cabin. I had to force the dealer to fix this, as they argued exhaust is not dangerous. I have attached the instructions on how to fix this, from the factory, proving it was a known serious issue, not disclosed to me. The dealership did a horrible job in the "repair" - having broken other parts of the car in the process. After they "repaired" the car, it began randomly shuddering, while idling. I have attached a video of it. You will need to turn up the volume to the max, as youtube compressed the sound terribly. I have one witness to this happening twice. The engine starts vibrating with such ferocity that it sounds as though the vehicle is about to explode. The witness is willing to testify in court. . Read more...
There is a consistent smell of sulfur or gas coming into the car through the vents. I was light headed and dizzy while driving. Stopped and roll the windows down. This was not just once but Ford is doing nothing about the problem. I searched for recalls and they said there is no recall on my Ford Explorer for this issues. Please advise as to what I am to do?.
While driving my 2013 Ford Explorer during acceleration I noticed the smell of exhaust in the cabin of the vehicle. About that same time I started to feel dizzy and nauseous. I have made a complaint about this matter in the past with NHTSA and have yet to receive any feed back for this matter.
Exhaust fumes leaking into cabin of car especially when accelerating or running a/c. Currently have an open case with Ford but they are refusing to fix this issue at their expense. This is a defect in the manufacturing of the care and therefore should not be out of my pocket to drive a safe vehicle. I have two little kids with respiratory issues and need this issue fixed ASAP.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was emitting strong gasoline fumes without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000. The VIN was not available.
I have had my Explorer at the dealership twice since I purchased it regards the front drive side brakes. They put on a new rotor and brake. Issue is still on going. Still making a bad sound on that side. Issue 2: when ever I accelerate to pass other car or to merge onto the interstate the exhaust smell within the vehicle is horrible. My children and I have been suffering from horrible headaches. I have a feeling we are breathing in carbon monoxide. I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow.
There has been a strong odor of gas fumes within the vehicle. The vehicle has been in motion each time of this occurrence. This would happen either city or highway driving. There does not seem to be a specific time or season. The car did go through a recall that I thought was the problem. The problem persists and has made us nauseous. I fear that this problem is affecting our health and the safety of my family.
There is a strong exhaust odor that in my car. I am unable to use the ac and heat because of the side effects I get. (massive headaches, blurred vision, nausea). I just bought my car in December 2016 and I contacted the Ford company I bought my car from and they are unaware of this defect. I am scared to put my 7 month old in my car and will not put her life in danger because of this issue.
While driving down a city street my vehicle lurched and the terrain management system fault light and orange wrench light came on. It wouldn't accelerate and I lost my power steering. I was able to coast to side of the road. I shut it off and waiter for about a minute then restarted it. It idled rough for a few seconds then smoothed out and I was able to make it home.
Strong exhaust/gasoline smell inside the cabin while driving with windows closed and the air conditioning on.
Ford exhaust I am getting a strong rotten egg smell and a burning smell everytime I drive my car which is a 2013 Ford Explorer limited 4wd it has been getting progressively worse. This happens when I am on the highway and when I am just driving down the street. I am not sure if it gets progressively worse when the car is going faster because it smells all the time. I just had the car toed to dealership because it will not start. In addition I noticed that I have been suffering from headaches, dizzinessand and fatigue while driving which has never happened to me before. Finally I noticed that when there is no power in the car there is no way to open the back tailgate to let people out when you are sitting in the third row of the car so you are trapped back there with the smell.
While driving on highway at 65-70 mph I accelerated to pass another vehicle, and shortly after passing, a strong smell of exhaust fumes or gasoline entered the passenger area. This has occurred several times since purchasing the car new in 2013. I called my Ford dealer and was told that a service bulletin has been issued to fix the problem, but since my vehicle is now out of warranty I would have to pay for the fix. After checking on line, this is evidently a wide-spread problem of a safety nature (my wife has asthma) and one that is inherent in many Explorers nationally, and if not corrected at Ford's expense by a special warranty exception, then the vehicles should be repaired under a safety recall.
Turn signals malfunctioned constantly. Problem allegedly caused by faulty installation of both wiring harnesses at factory. Both were replaced. Second vehicle in our fleet with this problem. Vehicle started losing acceleration; problem traced to faulty throttle body. Second vehicle in our fleet with this problem.
On Aug. 3th, 2016 I was driving my Ford Explorer 2013 on a freeway going aprox. 65miles/hr. At one point a wrench light came on and the vehicles engine quit. I made sure to put my hazard lights on and slowly changed lanes to get out of the way. This was very dangerous as the freeway is under heavy construction so there not much space to pull over safely. I managed to find the "safest" spot and stopped the vehicle. I turned everything off and was about to call for help . I figured I should try and start it up and see if it will move from me instead. Once I did this, and I knew that if I gave it some gas the vehicle would go, I took it back home and left it there until I could get it to the mechanics. The mechanic we used said he's seen this quite often and its some type of sensor that gives the engine the fuel it needs to run. Unfortunately, the sensor failed. We got it fixed but Ford would not cover for this. I understand that the warranty is finished on this vehicle but there is not enough miles on it to warrant this type of fault. The vehicle is only 3 years old too! I was and still am very upset that they will not help us pay for this faulty sensor. I would like to know how to put further action on this problem as I am sure there have been many other Fords with the same problem.
On two separate occasions, the car stalled after DE-accelerating to a stopped position and made a "clunk" sound from the transmission area. During the first event at a traffic light, a very noticeable "clunk" was heard that sounded like the transmission. The car was re-started and seemed to drive normally. To be on the safe side, we brought the car to the dealership to have it checked but they could find nothing wrong. During the second event at a stop sign, another very noticeable "clunk" was heard from the underside of the car and the car actually shifted so that it was felt by the body. After re-starting the car this time and placing it into drive, this time the car did not move when pressing down on the gas pedal. Instead, only the engine revved up. In addition, when putting the gear into the reverse or drive position, that loud "clunk" sound and the physical shifting of the vehicle also happened. Because the car would literally not go, we called for a tow-truck and took it to the Ford dealership. At the dealership, a customer care rep and a technician came outside to look at the car. When putting the car into reverse and drive, the same "clunk" and shifting of the vehicle was observed and acknowledged by both men. However, at this point the car would move forward when applying the gas. We left the car at the dealership for evaluation. When following up early the next week, ,we were informed that they had driven the car about 100 miles over the course of three trips and the car was running normally. Also, we were told that the diagnostic/evaluation of the pcm and transmission did not show anything was wrong. In my opinion, there are two problems here: #1, the stalling/transmission problem and #2, the inability to identify the problem for such a major event.
Vehicle emits bad odor upon hard acceleration or any other activity which puts a strain on the engine. Dealer deodorized the exhaust system with some perfume like substance which stopped the smell, but probably not the gas, for a while which soon wore off and returned. Ford does not claim to know anything about the issue. I'm concerned about carbon monoxide and have thought about putting in a sensor to record the levels. There is something wrong with the exhaust system.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact noticed strong fumes inside the vehicle, which caused nausea and headaches. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
Fuel throttle body error p2111 has happened 5 times in 3 days, causing great distress to me and my family. This is a potentially deadly defect and it seems many others are having the same issue. What occurs is that a wrench appears on screen with the error message "terrain management system fault" and the vehicle goes into "limp mode," even at highway speeds, causing the accelerator pedal to become unresponsive.
When air conditioner auxiliary is on the smell of exhaust or fume is being smelt coming thru the air vents. Also I have been experiencing a delay in take off when I press on the gas pedal.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that there were strong fumes emitting into the cabin of the vehicle, which caused nausea and headaches. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
