3 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2024

The side pillar of my windshield flew off on the freeway and probably hit another car this was very dangerous and now I'm missing a piece of my car. This recall need to be fixed ASAP.

4 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2024

For the past year, when I place the car in reverse the backup camera shows a reverse image. Items on the left appear on the camera as being on the right, and visa-versa. The first time it occurred I backed into a ditch. This occurs nine out of ten times. The hazard to pedestrians and chance of an accident is substantially increased. I contacted the local Ford dealer who showed no interest in my complaint, other that stating I would pay for the camera replacement, including labor. I noted that Ford Explorers were already recalled for rear camera problems. They stated that was for a different problem.

5 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2024

The windshield makes a loud cracking sound (for the last 4 months- this is how ong ive owned it) and a few weeks ago, the sound happened and the window cracked from the frame toward the center (about 7").

6 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2023

The left and right windshield panels flew off of my Ford Explorer truck.

7 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2023

While driving normal highway speeds my driver side windshield trim piece flew off. This is not safe as now I am worried that the passenger side will do it next.

8 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2023

Current condition the rearview camera do not display an image when driver put it in reverse.

9 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2023

For the 4th time since I have owned this vehicle, the trim on the driver's side of the windshield came loose, (the other times it snapped off), the gasket seal around the windshield came loose as a result, loosening the edge of the windshield. The first and second times we thought it was a coincidence or installation problem. By the 3rd time, after Ford denied there was an issue, my mechanic's shop took the time to investigate and found that this is a recurring problem and a design defect. This just happened again and once again I found myself hoping to make it to a store where I could buy tape to hold it all in place until I got home. I used a fair amount of 10x tape, but in addition to severe anxiety and stress over wondering if my windshield was going to peel off (that's what it sounds like), I also had the worry of being in an accident or causing one when the trim snapped loose completely and flew onto the highway. Because I travel for work as well as fun, I am now facing another repair bill that I cannot afford, but cannot do without. All four times this has been at highway speeds. I have reached out to Ford motor company and they have denied that there are any reports of problems. I looked online to see that you have opened an investigation and that there have, in fact, been numerous complaints about this same issue. Any support or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and I am happy to speak in further detail with you. Thanks.

10 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2023

I was driving down the highway yesterday (Sunday, March 26, 2023) and the windshield trim panel on the driver's side flew off. I was doing the speed limit, which was 70 mph. Thank goodness there wasn't anyone behind me! it could have smashed into their windshield!.

11 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

Windshield left pillar seal came loose at highway speed. Started flapping and making loud noise. Distraced me for few minutes till discovered source. No accident . Seal stayed on car . Only came half way loose.

12 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2022

The sunroof motor burned out due to water intrusion from clogged drains. Water also pooled in the passenger side floorboard and soaked the carpet from faulty drains. Cracks in the manufacturer's seam sealer at welds cracked at the back tailgate and leaked all down into the carpet and floorboard below the cargo area. This is a huge issue for those of us to are extremely sensitive to mold and mildew. It can also cause severe corrosion to other components of the car. I have reported it to the company and the dealer and they say that it is not their issue. In fact, they accused me of trying to weld or caulk the cracks. The vehicle has been inspected by Ford mechanics. There were no warnings of any kind. I discovered the burnt sunroof motor due to the sunroof not closing. Had to scramble to find someone to remedy the problem. I've investigated these issues and there are several customers with these exact same problems on Ford vehicles from 2011 - 2019. There should be several recalls concerning these issues.

13 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2022

The trim of the windshield has come off. This may have hit other drivers behind me as well as caused significant distraction to me. Also the rear view camera does not work and should be recalled. This causes significant safety concern.

14 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

My Explorer has been parked for a few days, after opening the passenger side, I noticed that there was a large puddle of water sitting there on the floor linear and on the flooring itself. I checked the moon roof, it was closed, no visible water so that is not possible. I checked the side door and seals, no issues. I noticed that water was from the top part of the passenger side inner footing area coming down so I checked the windshield area. And as assumed, water was creeping in from the windshield area due to bad caulking job/defective engineering causing water (rain/snow, etc) to creep in and soil the electrical area and the flooring.

15 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2020

Random rear window exploding. Car had no chips or damage to rear windshield. The car had been parked for long periods of time. Vehicle was parked, not running, backed in away from street for 20 minutes before spontaneously exploding. The center of the windshield as well as the outside edges had holes blown out. Weather was and had been between 58' and 70' for the past week.

16 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

The rear camera intermittently goes black and there is nothing on the screen except an error warning. We have experienced this problem for a couple years however it is becoming more frequent.

17 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Lights and passenger door ajar stay on. Lights don't turn off when backing up or until driving forward at a certain speed. Locks unlock by themselves. Lights will randomly turn on when no one is by the car. Have 3 little kids need a car that should be reliable to lock the door to s and stay locked or to safely back up with visibility but can't bc the lights stay on.

18 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2019

The power steering went completely out. Steering wheel locked up & the turn signal & wipers wouldn't work. At first , I could turn the vehicle off & it would reset but it started happening more often at a low speed or when I would put the vehicle in reverse. It went completely out in August 2019. My particular 2013 Ford explored didn't have a recall for this & it cost $2,300 to fix.

19 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact noticed that the windshield molding sealant detached from the vehicle without warning. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

20 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

The molding on the drivers side of the windshield suddenly detached and flew off during travel. This actually happened 2 years ago and we replaced the part ($200) and installed it ourselves. Well guess what happened again? the passenger side molding detached and flew off during travel this time. Both times this occurred at freeway speeds. Now I know for sure it's a faulty part and not a fluke. I am super frustrated that I have to cover the cost of this a second time. Also to have pieces of your vehicle flying off and potentially hitting other vehicles who are also traveling freeway speeds is a huge safety risk. Not to mention it makes the vehicle look really ugly. I am filling this form out at work and am unable to upload a photo, but if you google Ford Explorer windshield molding issues you will see exactly what I am reporting is not an uncommon occurrence.

21 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. While driving various speeds, the climate control temperature remained at the high heat setting. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to apple Ford of lynchburg (2113 lakeside dr, lynchburg, va 24501, (434) 385-5012) where it was diagnosed that the front controls interface modules failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: cas223-28019. The failure mileage was approximately 149,121.

22 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2019

I noticed the outside trim around the sides of the windshield appeared loose on the driver but mostly passenger side of my car. A few weeks later when I started driving over 10 mph down the road, I heard a noise like something beating against my windshield. I noticed the rubber seal around the windshield and between the trim and the windshield had come off and was flapping in the wind against my windshield and car. The body trim is now loose as well. I had a little water even leak into the car. It was very distracting and almost caused my wreck. I had to temporarily tape the rubber trim down as it keeps coming loose and gets worse as you drive (which you have no choice when you are not close to home or can't get your vehicle in for repairs until weeks later).

24 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2018

While driving at approximately 35 mph, the rear window shattered spontaneously with no signs of impact. Outside temperature approximately 32 degrees, inside approximately 70 degrees. The tempered glass literally exploded. No other physical damage to the car apparent. After doing a google search, I found this is not unique to me, and that sunroofs and windows often shatter spontaneously due to manufacturer defects that can be latent for years. Specifically noted was Ford; in particular, the f150. This car is a Ford Explorer. The entire window requires replacement.

25 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

26 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

Windshield wipers go off at random on their own or don't work at all.

27 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

While traveling at normal rate of speed, my windshield wipers come on at random, work on their own while positioned on off or not work at all.

28 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2017

Conditions: the vehicle was in motion. I was driving on a highway. There was heavy rain. There is trim molding on the driver's and passenger's side of the windshield of the 2013 Ford Explorer. While driving a few weeks ago, the driver's side molding flew off, leaving exposed a strip of weather stripping, which was covered with a blackish glue. As a result of the molding having flown off, the now unsecured weather stripping was repeatedly hitting the windshield leaving it covered with the sticky residue from the glue. While that on its own may not have been so bad, it was raining and the automatic wipers had engaged. This resulted in the weather stripping getting caught underneath one of the wipers and smearing the glue across the windshield rendering it completely impossible to see. The combination of the glue from the weather stripping completely obscuring my visibility, the wipers being rendered wholly inoperable, and the heavy rain was a devastating combination. I was on a highway, driving at approximately 70 miles per hour, with mild to heavy traffic, while it was raining, and in the span of less than five seconds: (1) the trim to my windshield flew off in traffic; (2) the glue on the weather stripping that was held in place by the trim began repeatedly flapping on the windshield; (3) the wipers, already engaged, got caught on the flapping weather stripping, and smeared the glue across the windshield; and (4) the wipers were left completely inoperable due to the weather stripping that they had gotten caught on. Essentially, in the span of less than five seconds, I went from being able to see and drive without issue to having to drive without being able to see what was in front of me.

29 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. When starting the vehicle, the windshield wipers operated without warning and failed to stop until the vehicle was powered off. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 55,272.

30 Wiper problem

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. While driving 65 mph, the driver's side windshield panel separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

31 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2017

Two things: the window outer pillar mount randomly flies off of the vehicle. My glass guy has even traded out the whole part and again it has flown off. This glass guy is the one who does glass for the Ford dealer here. 2 - the exhaust that comes through the rear air vent not only smells bad but makes me and my kids very ill.

32 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2017

My front windshield wipers will not turn off and it is in the off mode. I was driving.

33 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

This is my third attempt at this. My Explorer has the exhaust problem you are seeing in the news. I have tried to work with the dealership, Ford directly and now one wants to acknowledged. I have been chasing this for a few years. My kids and I are getting ill and with 100 degree temp and below zero climate we have to use the air. They also have a problem with their outer window pillars where they will come lose and randomly fly off on the freeway. Below is my conversation with Ford directly who claim this is rare and does not cause safety risk, to see the dealership who needs to take the car apart at my expense to even try and locate the problem.

34 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2015

Windshield wipers will just come on sometimes when you start the vehicle. If you turn them on to clean windshield and turn them off they will still come on after you have turned them off. Really a pain to deal with.

35 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2001

My rear back up camera display does not work all the time. When I put my car in reverse and the rear camera displays the screen will go black and an error messages appears on the screen. This has been an issue since I purchased the car in 2021.
