Lost power steering while operating vehicle. Advancetrac and power steering assist codes both came on. Very dangerous and steering gear box has been recalled in prior and later models but not the 2014 model. Cost of repair close to 2000 dollars for a vehicle part they have clearly had issues with.
Lose of power steering in cold weather; needs 50 degrees or more for power steering to work. No warning lights when power steering is lost.
Lost power steering while driving down the highway doing over 55mph. Took to a Ford dealership for repair, they fixed it, they replaced the power steering rack. . . Worked for 3 weeks and now it is not working again. Again while driving the car on the road the power steering went out.
Lost power steering while driving on a local street. Power steering came back the next day and lasted 3 days before going out again.
Our 2014 Ford Explorer sport has suddenly lost its power steering making it very difficult to drive and has a tendency to jerk the wheel left and right when driving. This I'm told is not under warranty and will cost approximately $1800 to fix. I believe the three years prior to mine had the same problem and were recalled. The Explorer has not been in any accidents and has 73k miles. The airbag light also came on when the steering issue started however the Ford service department said that it was unrelated and that would be another expense after the steering was repaired.
Luckily we were coming to a stop anyway when we lost power steering. Loud warning beeps with a message saying "power steering assist faulty" appeared. We were able to stop and start the engine to reset this, but this is a serious safety issue. We took our new 2014 Ford to our cullman, alabama eckenrod Ford dealer and they are stumped. Come to find out (thanks to google) this problem has been around since the 2011 model. We no longer feel safe driving this vehicle as we commute 45 miles to work and 45 miles home everyday.
