Rack and pinion steering has gone bad. Clicking sound when turning and steering unstable. Feels very unsafe at any speed.
Purchased this vehicle and it has a cracked exhaust manifold, exhaust fumes are horrible, have to drive with air on recirculate, and windows cracked. Dealer verified it was a cracked manifold but wouldn't cover it since the catalytic was not throwing a code.
My unit is suffering since day one from the exhaust issue, almost textbook to the typical description in the news; upon acceleration with the a/c on, the exhaust of the vehicle get in presumably through the back of the vehicle, which are then sucked into the a/c by it's suction units on the back and you end up smelling the exhaust gases for a while. The issue is specially present while the day is cold (mornings and nights), on climbs (inclined upwards roads) and specifically upon acceleration; it doesn't have to have the a/c max button on, the road type has no influence and its relative speed is not a factor but rather just acceleration. I took it three times to the dealer, specially after I read about the issue happening to other vehicles and they said with the modifications they did should be corrected (extension of the muffler, re-sealing the trunk door, other procedures), but it didn't!. Now I'm paying for an expensive car which has fouls and probably unhealthy odors getting into the car by its own design and have no recall or real solution to my problem. Please issue a recall or demand a real solution to the problem by Ford. If I would have the time and money I would have filed a lawsuit as I find almost a racket that you pay for a vehicle with such a bad design flaw and no real action to solve it from Ford. Also, it is not the only flaw as have had to repair the links of the front suspension (still under warranty) almost on every oil change visit, three times already, and the vehicle has less than 30k miles. Please help!!!!.
I bought the car in September of 2015 and noticed upon hard acceleration such as entering the interstate or passing a car there is a smell of exhaust that comes into the cabin area and in order to relieve the smell the windows need to be cracked a little bit and this only happens upon hard acceleration. I have not had this experience with any other vehicle. I have also had problems with the transmission but they cannot seem to figure out when accelerating between 20 and 40 miles per hour you feel a shift in the transmission which for a new vehicle is a bit odd. At 10,000 miles I had to have a stabilizer bar in the front and replaced I notice a lot of heavy clunking as I drove my car around and this seems to be the problem. I I have also had issues with the headliner coming out on the driver side front door this is been pushed in and replaced 3 times and it's working on its fourth time. The issues with the transmission and the exhaust fumes in the cab and have yet to be resolved. Bought the vehicle brand new and have had it in for repairs more than 15 times, the dealership says the exhaust is fixed but fumes still emit into cabin.
When accelerating or in motion for a period of time, the cabin gets an exhaust smell. When tested for carbon monoxide, there were 26 ppm with the windows up and the a/c blowing. On 1 occasion, 2 passengers in the back seat became ill. When thy exited the car, they felt immediately better. We have returned this vehicle 3 times to the dealer without successfully fixing the issue. The vehicle must have the windows cracked at all times to keep the exhaust smell out.

There is a reported issue about an exhaust leak inside cabin for Ford Explorer 2011+ and I found a solution for this issue. I tried to report this to Ford but there is no luck, and Ford ignored me. The issue is not from the back door or back of the vehicle, it's actually from the front. There is two issues actually who causing this, one is the hood rubber that located near to fresh air intake, I filled a silicon all over underneath the rubber and the issue almost gone 92%, a also covered the fresh air intake with duct tape and it's completely gone, but the duct tape is not the solution. The other issue is there is a leak from the engine side which causing the exhaust to fill the engine bay and the smell finds a way to leak inside cabin through fresh air intake from the front. Since a alot of Ford Explorers has been reported they have a cracked manifold this explain why this happening. And Ford is still looking in the wrong place to fix this issue I made this video on youtube to explain. . Read more...
