I was on the highway when the passenger side exterior a-pillar applique trim had detached from the SUV. There was a car behind me, not close at all, and the thing almost hit that car. No one got hurt but the driver and myself both were visibly upset. No police or emergency services were needed. As stated in my previous complaint, I have horrible anxiety issues. When that happened, I had an anxiety attack. I thought consumers were supposed to feel protected and safe in there vehicles. I am in the process of retaining legal counsel to address this safety defect and its impact that its had, twice now, on other drivers as well as myself. Kind regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I am filing an official safety complaint regarding my 2015 Ford Explorer sport 3. 5l due to a dangerous and sudden power-steering failure that occurred while I was driving with my children in the vehicle. There were no warning lights, alerts, or symptoms leading up to the failure. The power steering went out instantly and without any indication that something was wrong. The moment it failed, the steering wheel locked up and became extremely difficult to turn, nearly causing multiple accidents. I had children in the car at the time, and this situation created an immediate and severe safety hazard for everyone in my vehicle and on the road. After this happened, I contacted (by phone) Ford directly. Without any inspection, hesitation, or further explanation, I was immediately told that the vehicle “needs a new steering rack and pinion. ” the quoted repair cost exceeds $3,000, on a vehicle I am still paying $500 a month for. I have since discovered that there are thousands of other Ford Explorer owners reporting the exact same issue, with the same model years, same sudden failure, and the same required repair. This is clearly not an isolated incident. This pattern strongly indicates a widespread manufacturing or component defect that poses a significant risk of injury or death. I am deeply concerned that Ford has not issued a formal recall for a problem that can cause an immediate loss of steering control at highway speeds and in everyday driving conditions. The number of publicly documented complaints online demonstrates that this is a systemic and dangerous failure that should not be ignored. I am requesting that NHTSA fully investigate this issue and require Ford motor company to issue a recall for the defective steering rack/power steering system in the 2015 Ford Explorer sport 3. 5l ecoboost w/o park assist, as well as any related model years or trims using the same components. Vehicle is available for inspection.
There is a recall out for Ford vehicles for the pillars outside of the windshield, mine flew off the windshield while driving in the interstate. I called Ford trying to schedule an appointment because the same thing happened to my boyfriend’s grandma and she told me there was a recall. I was informed that my VIN was not apart of the safety recall for whatever reason. The car is available for inspection upon request. I feel as if my car repair should be covered because it clearly is not a safe model of the 2015 Ford Explorer and the same thing is happening with other vehicles that are covered under the recall.
The odometer has been tampered with. Per the carfax the last reported odometer reading was at 218,737, and now it reads 160,000. We just bought the car today and are figuring this out afterwards. We have all the evidence. Please contact me as this has never happened to us and we do not know what to do.
When accelerating and braking, motor rocks forward and backwards. Rpms jump erratically when this happens and when sitting stationary at a light or stop sign. Which causes the entire vehicle to vibrate. Oddly enough, fuel injector cleaner seems to help with the vehicle shaking somewhat.
Rear camera not working properly, dashboard screen starts rapidly flickering when vehicle put in reverse. Unable to see if anything is behind vehicle.
I see they are recalling backup cameras on Ford Explorers mine has not worked properly for years. When backing up the camera shows objects on the left side of car on the right and vice versa. Example if im backing up and a car is coming from the passenger side of car in parking lot it shows it coming from the drivers side. It also stays on while driving and sometimes shows and black screen and distorted images. The date below is just this report date because I can't submit without.
Rear back up camera is glitching in and out and at times goes completely black or won’t come in at all once put in reverse.
My backup camera keeps going out and now it’s gone completely out. If it does come up it’s backwards with no assist line and constantly beeping. There are recalls for this same situation with almost all other Fords 2015-2019 I think and immune is doing the same exact thing and no recalls???.
1. Component/system failure: the water pump on my 2016 Ford Explorer failed, causing a significant antifreeze leak. The component is available for inspection upon request. 2. Safety risk: the failure creates a risk of engine seizure while driving. Loss of engine coolant can cause the engine to overheat suddenly, potentially leading to a dangerous situation on the road that could harm myself or other drivers. 3. Confirmation of problem: the problem has been confirmed by the dealer service department during inspection. The water pump leak was observed and diagnosed by a certified Ford service technician. 4. Inspections: the vehicle has been inspected by the dealer. I have also documented prior repairs to the vehicle, including a timing chain replacement two years ago. The water pump issue has not yet been inspected by Ford corporate. 5. Warning lamps/symptoms: prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps on the dashboard. I noticed coolant leaking from the water pump area, and the temperature gauge began to rise. The leak was first observed Aug 15.
While driving with the ac on you can smell exhaust fumes in the cabin and it's worse towards the rear carbin of the vehicle. I've gotten nauseated and sleepy from the fumes and have had several headaches in addition to the other symptoms. Ford needs to recall this issue. Also I have an active recall for the window pillars and the dealership says they still dont have the parts to fix it, and it's been over a year, what's the hold up Ford??!!.
Backup camera not functioning properly (goes black in the middle of backing up and says “contact dealership”). I saw an article online that my car may have been affected by the backup camera recall. I brought my car to the dealership and they said my VIN was not affected but I have the problems listed. I contacted Ford and reported this with customer care department (case #: cxh-05669623-j5p1m4). They said that’s all I can do. I have small children all under the age of 5 and fear backing up in my driveway.
Backup camera picture is distorted if it works at all. There is a recall on this part (25v695). Contacted dealership and said that it only pertains to a mustang for this month.
My backup camera is reversing or going blank intermittently . It even turned upside down one time. Ford says I am not included in the recent recall, yet I have the same problem that is being recalled.
The back up camera works on and off. I nearly hit a person when the camera suddenly stopped working. Thank goodness I was backing up very slowly and the guy knocked in my rear window.
Drivers side a post windshield trim piece came flying off vehicle while driving on the highway. I just learned that Ford came out with a recall on this part almost 1 & 1/2 years ago and they have still not fixed or remedied this condition. Totally unacceptable. I am now worried that the passenger side trim piece will come off next, potentially causing an accident or additional hazard on the roadway. I went to my local Ford dealer and was told by the service department that there is nothing they can do, due to not having any parts available and to check back in late summer.
My backup camera is malfunctioning. 1st incident I was backing out of a parking spot, and the camera screen just blacked out, and 2 pedestrians were walking behind my car, and the 2 seconds later the car started beeping, warning me of the pedestrians, I almost hit them. 2nd time I was backing out of my parking spot at work, and a coworker was walking behind my car, the camera gave me a warning that the camera was malfunctioning, and then started beeping like crazy, but the camera did not turn on. 3rd time I was backing out at a store, and a car just flew by narrowly missing me, and the camera did not turn on, my camera has been malfunctioning off and on now.
My back up camera doesn't work all the time. It is very intermittent.
The current recall of Ford backup cameras including this year but not this vehicle type almost exactly matches what happens with this rear view camera. Either is blacks out completely or when it is on it shows the lines curving when in fact you are going straight and the picture can be extremely blurry as well.
My back up camera will work then it stops working as im backing up and says unavailable contact dealer.
The back up camera on my Explorer has been experiencing intermittent failure for about the past month. It started by occasionally losing the parking lines while I was in reverse, and has progressed to a black screen while I'm in the process of backing up. Sometimes it's just a glitchy image, and sometimes it goes in and out while in reverse. The component has not yet been inspected. There were no indications of a problem before the issue began. This is concerning because the height of the vehicle does not allow me to see objects that are directly behind the vehicle, such as the neighborhood children running around. I experienced this failure on a rainy day with low visibility and backed into a mailbox.
The rear backup camera is either a blank black screen, or has distorted display. The directional guides do not display combined with a reverse presentation. Sometimes displays, system is malfunctioning, contact your manufacturer.
The back up camera only works occasionally because of the height of vehicle it is difficult to back up safely . Sometimes the camera works and other times it sends a message to contact the dealer.
Recall number 25s42 should include 2015 Ford Explorers. The rearview camera goes blank or is distorted. It causes the driver the inability to see anything behind the vehicle if the object cannot be seen using the mirrors.
Reverse camera intermittently fails to operate properly, if at all.
Shifter (not transmission) intermittently fails to acknowledge when transmission is in park. This problem is becoming more frequent than before. Attached pictures show error when door is open and transmission is not in park only when the transmission is also not in park. The "p" on the instrument panel does not light up when I shift to park. It takes up to a minute for the shifter to acknowledge that the transmission is in park. If I shut the engine off before the shifter acknowledges this, I get an error that the transmission is not in park when it in fact is. I do not remember when this problem started, only that it has been doing this for at least a year. I can tell that the transmission is in park, even if the shifter (computer) doesn't acknowledge this.
Rear backup camera doesn't work anymore its been 2 years it hasn't been working please look into it and hope there's a recall for it.
Rear backup camera malfunctioning for the second. Backup camera goes black and the following message appears: camera is unavailable. Please contact your dealership. Rear backup camera was replaced at my expense of $513. 16 on 1/3/2022 by Ford dealership. This is presenting a safety issue and I don't feel that I should be responsible for a second replacement when recalls have been issued on other model years but not the 2015.
We received the February 2024 notice but not the July 2025 recall notice stating the parts were available. We took our vehicle in for other work during August 2024 and helena motors took our a-pillar appliqué trim off without notifying us. They said it was loose but we hadn’t notice that. In fact, my spouse cleaned the windshield and pillars the day before are appointment and the a-pillar trim was tight. They said they didn’t have the parts for replacement but would order them and contact us. We contacted them in September and they said the part wasn’t ordered but they would order it and let us know when it was in. This behavior has continued and we still don’t have the replacement part on the spot where they removed the part. We have been getting the runaround from helena motors for six and half months. Employees that are suppose to be getting the parts don’t return calls.
The vehicle stopped while I was driving and wouldn’t accelerate when trying to push the gas pedal. The warning wrench light then appeared and said power train. Once I pulled over and cut the car off and back on it drove normal for a few miles and broke down again. My safety was impacted because the vehicle literally stopped while I was driving on a busy road.
On July 8th while driving to work my car just shut off and the brakes locked up. This scenario happened again several other times even after being worked on at a Ford dealership. Please see attachment for specific dates & details. Fuel pump driver module was replaced first time then the fuel pump the last time. Explorer was inspected by the sandy sansing Ford dealership in daphne, alabama. Only time warnings/codes appeared was when it shut off. I attached a screen shot of what the dash showed.
Car shutting off while driving. Then got it fixed @Ford dealer. Drove for a while then cut off while driving again a few weeks later. Back in the shop. Supposedly fixed then the issue was it not starting at all when I go to get in the car. These types of situations happened 4 times since July and they keep replacing parts but not resolving the issue! I am tired of spending my money for no resolution. They are doing nothing but taking my money and changing parts that were potentially fine! I am a repeat Ford buyer and only have 107,235 miles this should not be happening. But the safety of myself and my family are making me rethink a 3rd purchase ever going forward! this is my 2nd time filing a report I have heard nothing on the previous one filed on 11/22/24. The 2015 Explorers' need to be inc in the recall!.
Exterior a-pillar molding.
This has happened multiple dates. I can't enter that on the next screen. Probably started 9+ months ago. My backup camera goes blank and then back on sporadically. Sometimes, when I put in reverse and sometimes when I'm in the middle of reversing. Sometimes for a couple of seconds (or more) and sometimes until I change gears and go back to reverse. I see there is a recall for some Ford Explorer years and was wondering why the 2015 wasn't included. My issues sound similar to the recalled years. Putting in notice in case there are more 2015s like me experiencing likewise issues. Thank you for taking the time to review my issue. Backup camera does not work.
