3 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2020

Steering fault light came on twice in two days, both instances happened after taking off from a stoplight. Took the vehicle in the dealership where they read the codes and it came back the steering assembly was failing. They proceeded to tell me that the steering could go out any minute. The vehicle only has 57k miles on it but of course isn't covered under power train warranty. After googling the issue, it seems as though this is a very common problem and the dealership conveniently had the a steering assembly in stock. Not sure what the hold up is for Ford to issue a recall! this could kill someone.

6 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2019

My vehicle intermittently displayed steering fault. Service now message on my dashboard. Unfortunately at first, I didn't think much of it since it happened so infrequently and the steering wasn't too noticeable. Had I known then what I know now, I would have recorded it the first time it occurred. It wasn't until I hit around 25,000 miles that the steering was slightly difficult. I was driving through my town and found it noticeably harder to turn the steering wheel around corners. The same warning appeared on the dash, to which I scheduled an appointment. When I took it in to be serviced for the previous recall, I requested for them to look into the message. Turns out I have a faulty epas in my vehicle, estimating around $2,200 to replace. When I contacted Ford customer service, they reviewed my case and denied any coverage for this replacement.

7 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

I was parked, when a loud sound came from the motor area of my 2016 Ford Explorer. The service advance track and the steering failure light came on about. I brought the car to dealer and they said that the rack and pinion is leaking, evan that only had 32, 000 miles is not covered by warranty because expires a few months ago, and is going to cost $2,230. 00 for the parts and labor. The day before I was with all my family having fun and driving around, I'm thinking if this part breaks while we was at interstate 70, that the speed limits is 70mph, and you lose control of the vehicle, it will be a really bad or fatal accident. There being a lot of reports with this issue. What Ford and the NHTSA are waiting to take accion, that more incident ocurred or people died to do a recall. Like they are doing with the air bags after a many people died. Please take action today, don't wait until is to late.

8 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

This will be the second time in a couple of years that my steering on my car has just quit while I was driving it. I was, luckily, sitting in a parking lot, parked. When I put my car in drive and turned my wheel my steering ability was suddenly was gone and I had the "hill assist disabled" light to come on, "advance trac control light" flashed, and the steering loss light came on. I had no capability to turn my wheel without putting enormous effort. It's as if all my power steering died. This is the second time this has happened.

9 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

The steering failure light came on about 2 weeks ago and I brought to dealer. They said it was not the steering but the battery putting out the wrong voltage and caused the sensor to come on. Today I actually lost steering on the vehicle while driving about 30 miles on a local street. The street curved and I could not turn the wheel. The steering fault light came on and car said that the terrain assist and hill assist was disabled (was not using). I was able to put my hazards on, and struggle with the steering to pull over. I only have 42000 miles on this vehicle and have had numerous electrical problems with this car, including replacing the apim. I have a 16 year old, that just started driving with me in this car, and I do not think it is safe. I truly believe there is some wiring problem or electrical problem that Ford is ignoring. I see many people posting this same dangerous steering fault issue, and it not getting fixed.

13 Power Steering Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2018

Bought the 2016 Explorer limited with roughly 28,000 miles on it. Ran great for about 2,000 miles and then started noticing a pop/clunk noise when turning the wheel to the right going 5mph or less. Mainly happened when pulling into and out of parking spaces. Would also randomly do this while parked. Took into 2 Ford dealerships and surprise, they couldn't replicate the problem. Was told to keep driving it and if it gets worse to bring it back in. Drove it for another few thousand miles with it happening intermittently. Finally after hearing the noise more consistently and even feeling the steering slightly jerk to the side on one occasion , I took it back into a Ford dealership. They were finally able to duplicate the sound this time and said it needed a new steering rack. This includes the whole rack and pinion. So far so good. My issue is I've been reading about all these Explorers with similar issues (most of them worse than my case) and can't figure out why they're hasn't been a recall? some Explorers steering literally locks up while driving based on all the complaints I've read. I feel I was one of the lucky ones catching the problem before it got worse. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the problem doesn't come up again like I've heard also happens. Obviously something is faulty with the steering assembly. How does this happen to a car this new?.
