I was driving on the highway and when I began to turn off the exit I began hearing a loud grinding sound coming from my steering column. It was also extremely difficult to turn the wheel. Iam grateful that my young children were not with me at the time because the grinding was super lound and I was abosultely terrified that I was going to crash. I immediately took the truck to my local mechanic where he said that I should not be driving thr truck at all because I could definitely crash an kill myself or any others around me. Also that it is going to cost $2500. 00 to fix the problem. I just purchase this truck from autofair Ford in July 2020 for 20k and 6 months later am forced to dump 2. 5k into it when money is tight and my family is struggling as it is. . . I am extremely upset that this happened and to learn that this has happened to thousands of people, yet there is no recall for this issue. Aomething should be dont to help me and my family by Ford motor company this is not acceptable to be going broke because of this issue and the car is just 5 years old.
While going to back out of my driveway, I'm in reverse and moving and go to turn the steering wheel and it is locked and I get a "hill start assist not available, service advancetrac" now mine you this car is only 4yrs old with 25k miles on it. According to all the other complai ts I've read I've gotten off easy in the fact I was in my own driveway and not driving anyways with my children in the car, which is the main vehicle they would be in. Had towed to local Ford dealer and told its the pinion in the steering column not covered under my 5yr, 60,000 miles warranty and will cost $2,247 pkus tax to fix. Absolutely ridiculous. 4 years old barely driven at 25k miles to have this crazy expensive fix that I cannot afford! where is the recall on this known problem? are we waiting for someone to die? is that what it takes? if it happened while taking NY kids to school who knows what could have happened. Please do the right thing.

I went on vacation with my family for a week. We took my car to airport and parked it from 11/8-11/16. I had no problems on the drive to the airport, but when we came home, almost immediately, while pulling out of the parking space (still stationary) I heard a rubbing nose coming from what sounded like the steering column. Due to my son's always being in the vehicle I didn't want to chance anything since it seemed to be steering related. I took it to a mechanic who ended up telling me that it was my steering rack. He also informed me that on the year's before mine they had to issue a recall due to similar issues as mine. I've noticed that there are a lot of people with the same year and model that still have this problem even though it isn't a recall anymore for some reason. Luckily I caught mine before it cause a serious issue, being that people have said this causes their steering to completely lock up.
At approx 65k miles I noticed the steering wheel becoming stiff and a noise of plastic rubbing in the steering column. Today at 67k miles I took vehicle into Ford dealer for another recall to be told the rack is bad. Seeing as this is such an abundant issue with these vehicles, I'm trying to understand how this isn't a safety recall. If this part fails while driving it could lead to a catastrophic crash. Honestly I'm afraid to have the dealer replace it with an identical part since there is obviously an issue with the part is it is currently being produced.
Issues started with several electrical glitches that occurred and still occur consistently with no resolution. Battery was "fried" and replaced, sync module was replaced, now the glitches include a frozen steering column while driving and a "charging system service now" light that comes on and off while stationary and driving. Also passenger side view mirror gets stuck outwards, interior electrical malfunctions. Truck is no longer under warranty and I am tired of paying $150 diagnostic fees with no resolution.

Brought truck in for diagnosis, problem with power steering. We were told the steering column or rack is failing as well as the gearbox. The truck is only two and half years old should not be happening it only has under 108k miles on it. The repair would cost nearly $2,200. Unacceptable! I already have a rebuilt transmission.
I have had this used car 2 months and it only has 25k on it, the steering column is grinding and feels very tight when driving, almost like your driving on a flat . Dealership offered to fix it for $2000. 00 . Are you kidding? should be a recall like older years are.
