37 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

On a night with light rain, after traveling 1. 5 hrs with cruise control on, I pulled off interstate exit to make a phone call. I did not turn engine off. After call I proceeded to get back on interstate, while merging back onto interstate I accelerated hard to attain merging speed, when I merged safely in front of semi the engine shook violently and lost power. To avoid being hit, I jerked vehicle into emergency lane. The check engine light was flashing and the car placed in limp mode. I turned the vehicle completely of and restarted the engine and every thing appeared to have returned to normal. I later read that night that the f150 with same engine was having similar problems. I took the vehicle to Ford the following Monday. The service advisor informed me that Ford has been having the same problem with my engine that is in the Ford f150 in humid areas. He stated that large amounts of condensation forms in the intercooler when driving for long periods without utilizing turbo, then next time you accelerate hard the turbos suck all the condensation into the engine causing a misfire and puts engine into limp mode. After a week of them contacting Ford engineers and running test, they told me they cannot repeat problem and the engine did not store any codes in the ecm from the problem. Ford also told the dealer that I'm the only person with a 2013 Explorer with the 3. 5 ecoboost engine that has ever reported problem. Since then I have read about two lawsuits which have been filed against Ford involving the ecoboost engine and included the 2013 Ford Explorer sport. Apparently this statement is not true. This is a very serious safety issue for me and my family. The Ford company is apparently denying the issue exist, leaving me to drive a vehicle that can potentially put my family others with the same vehicle in harms way. Thank you, fred williams.

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

While driving, the vehicle just shut off. I had no control of the vehicle once it shut off, except to utilize the emergency brake to get me stopped. Once stopped, I put it in park and it started up first try. No check engine light came on. Same thing happens on a regular bases. Usually happens while braking or turning at speeds lower than 30mph, then engine just stalls and everything turns off. This to me is a major safety concern, because without total control of the vehicle and vehicle lighting at night, it could seriously injure or kill someone. I highly recommend investigating this further so we can all continue to be safe. Thanks!.

48 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/19/2007

We have a 2004 Ford Explorer eddie bauer, originally purchased in may 20'06 with approximately 30,000 miles . At approximately 36,000 miles in August 2006 we were told that the harmonic balancer needed to be replaced. That was about $500. My husband drove it to work on 3-19-07 and everything was fine. He took it to lunch, everything was still fine, and when he came out, he tried to start the vehiclem and it would not start. There were no check engine lights, no noises, nothing out-of-the-ordinary at all. We had it towed to a Ford dealership, who ran some tests, and initially could not figure it out. They ran more tests, and came to the conclusion that the cams are not working. They told us that the engine needs to be replaced. $5,600. 00 to replace the engine with 46,000 miles. Ford is not offering us any help. They refuse to stand behind their product. They said if we had the extended warranty it would be covered. But the point is that it has 46,000 miles. I need someone to help me before I explode!.

52 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/13/2005

We purchased a 2006 Ford Explorer a few years ago and ever since we go it, we have been having issues with the wrench light coming on. When this light turns on the car starts jerking and we cant step on the gas any more because the car hesitates to go. We have to pull over turn the car off, wait a while then turn it back on and the car is ok again, but the engine light stays on sometimes for a few hours and sometimes for a few days. When we 1st had the problem we took it back to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong. We took it back a few more times and they kept telling us the same thing. Well that dealer closed, we took it to other Ford dealers and they would tell us the same thing, there is nothing wrong with the car. Well at 1st it would happen like once ever 2 to three weeks, then it would do it like once a day, well now it does it everyday more than once a day. Two days ago I was on the freeway going 70 miles an hour it happened to me. I always have my 8 year old daughter with me so im usually on carpool. Well when this happened I had to get out of car pool crossing the yellow lines just so that I can get to the other side to pull over, and I cant step on the gas. So I turned the car off, waited a while and then turned it back on and continued. Then it happened again not 2 times, 6 times total that day while traffic is moving at 70 miles an hour, we almost crashed. I am tired of taking it to the dealer just for them to say nothing is wrong. I emailed Ford corporate and all they can say is take it and have it diagnosed. I told them we have done that many times and they tell us the same thing. I got mad so I called to speak to a manager, which was no help. She said for me to have it diagnosed again. I asked her if they found something wrong with the car, is Ford going to have it fixed and she said no. I looked in to this and there seems to be lots of people with this same dangerous problem with their 2006 Ford Explorer.

53 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/20/2005

On 20 Mar 2005 while driving my 2000 Ford Explorer the check engine light came on. I pulled to the side to check the problems, everything seemed normal except it was idling rough. I called the dealer the next day to bring it in. I brought it to the Ford dealer on 21 Mar 2005. I was told that afternoon, that it was the cylinder head gasket. I called the dealer on 22 Mar to check and see when I could pick it up and was told that it would not be ready because they found the cylinder head had a crack. I called on 23 Mar to check and was told both cylinder heads were cracked and there is a possibility that the engine may have to be replaced. I was also told that they were waiting for an adjuster from Ford to make a determination to see if the engine needs to be replaced or just the cylinder heads. It is now the afternoon of 29 Mar and I was told by the dealer that the cylinder heads are on back order and they do not know when my car will be ready. I called Ford (800-392-3673) and basically was told sorry nothing we can do the cylinder heads are on "national back order". If that is true, there is a great demand for Ford 4 liter engine cylinder heads. Iis that a result of a defect with the engine or the cylinder heads. Has anyone looked into this? also, do not what can be done to get Ford moving on my problem?.

59 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/27/2004

Bought car in January 2003, was a dealer vehicle. We had 54,000 miles on it when I was driving it home from work and the check engine light came on the same time the Explorer started almost bucking. The front end of the vehicle was shaking so bad that I immediately pulled over as best as I could. I called aaa and as they had me turn the vehicle around so it could be put on the truck the engine stopped all together, and the vehicle would not turn over. After bringing it to my mechanic I was told that the engine had seized up. I called my local Ford dealer where I had purchased the vehicle and was told that it would not be covered because my warranty was for 36,000. I have had the oil changed always on time and also had the vehicle in for its full maitence check just months before. Come to find out, the valve spring in the motor broke and caused the engine to seize. I had to order a new engine from Ford and between the engine and labor it cost me close to $3,900. When I called the Ford company, because I got nowheres with my local Ford dealer I was told that they could not do anything for me. If a recall was to ever come about then I should save my receipts. I have pictures of the engine to prove what had happened if I ever need them. The way I look at it, I have more miles, because of my job, than others do on a 2002. It's just a matter of time until others have this happen. My local Ford company says its a fluke. Nice reason hah? to me a $3,900. Fluke is nothing to laugh about!.

60 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

I purchased this car on October 8,2003. Three days after I bought it the check engine light came on. I brought the car back four times back to back. The first time they said nothing was wrong. The second and third time the same thing. On the fourth attempt, they had me take it to one of "their" mechanics. He said it was a bad switch in the system. Not even a whole week later, the check guage light came on. The car lot where I bought it from said they were not going to look at my car because out of the kindness of their heart they've already looked at it. So I took it to a Ford dealership, they fixed it and said it was a problem with transmission, and the steering wheel. They car lot said it was not their problem. I had to pay out of my pocket for some problems that are still under warranty. Then the first time the check engine light came on I later found out that a sales person who was not certified mechanic, tried to fix the car when they said they were sending it to a mechanic. I'm still having problems and it seems like there just getting worse!.

62 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 09/15/2003

The first time I had a problem is when my car wouldn?t start on my way to work, and the check engine light came on. It was a few days after I gotten it. So I took it in and they said they checked the engine and turned off the light. They told me I should have it serviced. So I did. The other time I took it in, it had died on me while driving down my uncles apartment hill. They said they were getting some weird codes from the computer or something. They said they would get me an appointment with Ford. Then they call later that day and tell me they will bring someone in to look at the car who specializes in Ford models. I needed a car so I had to rent a car while they had my car in the shop so that I could take my son to the sitters and have a way to work. Only to find out when I got my car back, that unfortunately they didn?t have the tools to fix the problem so they will be sending my car to Ford. So far its been about a week, they have not called me with a confirmed date on when I can take my car in to fix. Yesterday, (Nov. 11) the engine would lug, once in a while my car will die out. When I started it up again about 5 minutes later, my check engine light wouldn?t go off. I called it in when I got to work. They told me that I could still drive it if it doesn?t seem different from before. I am still driving it, mostly because if I take it in, I won?t have any way to work and back home. They said they don?t give out loaners. I?ve been told that the car has multiple problems, and most of them different every time I go in. One time it was some kind of code stating that it thinks it?s a stolen car, now it some kind of timer. The first time it was cause I needed a service. It seems like the longer I drive my car the worse it?s getting. But really I have no choice. They won?t give me a loaner. I am paying major bucks to rent a car since I?m only 19. It cost me $65 the time I rented one cause I wouldn?t have a way to work.

63 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/05/2003

Vehicle started losing power. Was told it needed a tune up. Also was told that the spark plug wires were broken and frayed. They were replaced along with all the filters and new fluids as well as a fuel system cleaner. When this did not work I was informed that the car needed to go to a Ford dealer as the car was "throwing out all of these different codes". It was towed to a Ford dealership and I was told by the service adviser that the car was fixed and running in tip top shape. Since then I have encountered stalling and still no power and the vehicle is running rougher. The engine light came on right after I picked it up from the dealership. It has cost me $1,000 so far and am afraid what it will finally cost to remedy this situation. I do not feel safe in this vehicle.
