The contact owns a 2018 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the engine overheated. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the failure was due to the water pump and fan. The water pump was replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,200.
The contact owns 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated they had taken their vehicle to a local dealer for a crack in the water pump which the dealer repaired, after the repair the contact noticed a burning abnormal odor when turning on their heat from their a/c unit, which caused the contact and his passenger to become light headed and dizzy while driving. The contact drove to a local hospital where they was told the reason the contact was light headed due to high level of carbon monoxide levels . The contact called the local dealer about the abnormal odor but the dealer inform the contact they would not be able to fix the issue and inform the contact to reach out to manufacturer for the failure. The contact decided to take the vehicle independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as small oil leaks around the engine that contribute the odor coming into the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.

My wife and I took a trip for a baby shower, it was about a 2. 5 hr drive. On the way there, the check engine light turned on. There were no other warnings or indications of an issue. We made it fine to our destination, drove around town a little bit, and stayed the night. The next day we headed home (another 2. 5 hr trip). The check engine light was on the entire time, but there were no abnormal noises or odors, or any other indication that there was an issue. When we got home, we parked the car, turned it off, unloaded, then turned it on to back it into the garage and turn it off again. After sitting in the garage for 10 -15 minutes, the car exploded, shaking the house and catching the engine bay on fire. The engine bay was engulfed in flames, causing fire/smoke damage to our garage and everything in it. An independent investigator stated that the cooling fan had failed, which caused the check engine light, however that seems like not a sufficient reason to why the engine exploded. We are unsure what the root cause was, but something had to have gone very wrong for the car to explode in the garage, ignition off, and stationary and the only indication being a check engine light even if the cooling fan did fail. This all happened just over a week after an oil change at a Ford dealership. This could have been a very dangerous situation that could have very likely ended up in injury or death.
Cooling fan shut down noise, since new the engine cooling fan makes a lot of noise when "spinning down" at the fan comes to a stop/shutting down engine. Fan is working, but for how long?.

Radiator cooling fan squeals loudly when car is idle or driving slowly. Car has already been in the shop to replace the fan once. New fan began squealing again within 30 minutes of driving after repair. Car only has 4000 miles on it. Have read other complaints of faulty cooling fan bearings. Afraid fan will stop working and cause fire or overheating.
My 2016 Ford Explorer is making a high pitch sound when the vehicle is being cut off. The sound has been diagnosed as a bad cooling fan bearing. I'm not sure of the extent but this cannot be a good thing if the bearing is bad for the cooling fan. A bad bearing could lead to other issues if it is already bad and the car is only 4 months old. My vehicle has been in the shop multiple (6) times for just the fan itself. The dealership could not fix it and enlisted the assistance of the manufacturers tech line and still no resolution. My vehicle is currently in the shop and I had to involve the better business bureau's autoline because the vehicle has violated my states lemon law. I wanted to make sure to report this issue so that something can be done. This is definently a defect in the manufacturing of the fan and I have had 3 fans in my vehicle and each one has the defect. The first date I reported this issue was on 01/07/2016.
Cooling fans failed, engine overheated ran rough and then stopped running. 3/4 gallons of anti-freeze boiled out of overflow and on to engine.

Excessive engine cooling fan noise upon morning first use. If you let the car sit overnight and then startup the car, back up out of the driveway, and accelerate normally down the residential street, the cooling fan sounds like an airplane propeller chopping the air. The performance of the vehicle (a v8) seems sluggish as the engine fights to spin the fan at every increasing engine rpm. The noise is excessive and unnerving. Once you come to a stop sign and the engine slows to idle, the fan resumes normal operating mode and no longer spins at engine rpm speeds. This is a very repeatable event. 3 out 5 mornings I have to deal with this. Ford motor customer service says they cannot do anything until the dealer identifies the problem. The car has been at the dealer for several days and they are unable to experience the problem. There is only one thing that can be wrong here is the fan clutch. But until the problem stays broken, and it wont as it goes away once you go to idle, they will not repair the problem under warranty. My concern is multifold. I am concerned for the safety of others as it is unnatural for the cooling fan to be spinning at engine rpm. If the fan were to disintegrate, who will be in the way of the high speed fragments? I am concerned about the damage that would occur to the vehicle if the fan were to let loose. I am concerned that the fan's life is being reduced and will suffer premature failure. The dealer refuses to review TSB 17163 -- excessive engine cooling fan noise. (NHTSA id #10004057) until they experience the problem. The dealer seems to be uncooperative and chooses to ignore the customer's complaint.
