1 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 2016 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

End of March 2019 after driving home from work on a Friday evening the car smelled like exhaust fumes (rotten eggs) when I parked the car in the garage. I called dealer and made an appointment to take the car in. Over the weekend both inside and outside the car the smell was terrible. Took car to Ford dealer for repair. They suggested I needed a new battery (9 months old battery - was told battery causing smell). Picked up car and drove home. Once again upon parking car still smelled like exhaust. Car was returned to dealer. Dealer replaced pcv valve. Picked up car - drove home - car still smells like exhaust fumes. Car has gone into dealer 4 times for same problem. Can no longer park car inside of garage at home due to exhaust smell and potential safety issues. Dealer says they have done everything pursuant to Ford's instruction and their hands are tied. Dealer admits the car smells of exhaust fumes outside of car. Inside the car I am keeping the recycled air on to try to prevent the exhaust from coming in the car. Car needs to be fixed by Ford as the exhaust smell is a safety hazard and should not be happening to a 3 yr. Old car.

3 Crankcase (pcv) problem of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 07/03/2005

1997 Ford Explorer, 5. 0 l engine, automatic transmission. The car's engine unexpectedly races to the point that its brakes will not hold it back. This sometimes happens when backing from a cold start and sometimes when braking for a stop at an intersection. The only way to stop the vehicle is to shift into park and turn off the engine. The effect is like being slammed into by a large vehicle. It almost killed my pregnant daughter and me earlier this month when it happened as I was braking for a traffic light. It felt like we had been hit from the rear, but it was the engine pulling its old trick again. The local Ford dealer has been unable to diagnose and repair the problem. One year ago he said that it was the pcv valve and he replaced the valve. The car then behaved for about one year. Then, without warning, with my wife at the wheel, the car, in reverse, raced out of our garage into the street. It was unstopable. Later it did the same thing, while in drive, at intersections. I returned it to the dealer who could find nothing wrong. It then happened to me and my daughter and I returned it to the dealer who tested it for a week without results.

Failure Date: 01/14/2002

While driving, throttle/ air bypass valve malfunctions which causes accelerator pedal to stick, and pedal goes nearly to the floor. Also pedal has to be pumped before it releases. The dealer said they can fix the problem, but the vehicle still hesitates and there is rough idle, the lower ball joints failed, and were replaced.
