At any speed exhaust fumes get into passenger compartment. With vehicle idling and climate control to off position, I let it idle 5 min. Then turned climate control to on position and nothing but fumes come out thru air vents. I bought this Explorer 10/23/12 and it has been in the shop since 12/12/12. Ford sent a fix for this Explorer and it didn't work. Fmc needs to call me ASAP. This is looking more and more like a buy back.

I had to have the heater blend door replaced on my Ford Explorer. The cost was over $1000. 00. The entire dashboard had to be removed. I know that a TSB was issued by Ford on this problem, many owners have had the same problem as I did. This is an engineering/manufacturing defect that is not only costly to repair, but in my opinion can cause the windshield to fog up while driving because you can not control the heater function. This can lead to a poor or non visibility situation and could cause an accident. Please look into this problem to avoid any possible accidents. I have read numerous reports from other owners online regarding this problem. Please contact Ford about this potentially hazardous problem and issue a recall notice. The blend door is not strong enough to withstand the blowers air pressure. Thank you for your help in this matter.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the air conditioner functioned but the heat did not. The contact replaced the thermostat and stated that there were no leaks in the heating coil. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the reactor could have been the cause of failure. The current and failure mileages were 133,700.

I have had the door blender plastic piece changed on my car three times! each time the season changes. I now have to replace it again. I currently have a radiator leak and will have to replace the radiator and plastic holder as well. I also currently have a transmission slippage problem and I will have to get that fixed as well. This is horrible. I purchased the Ford Explorer because I thought it was dependable. This is depressing and I can not afford it!.

I have a 2008 Ford Explorer and the rear defroster wire that was attached to the rear glass door fell off. It is only held on the window by a small weld the size of an eraser head. I called my dealership weisleder Ford in point pleasant NJ, said they could not replace it because they said we pulled it off and its not under my extended warranty. I cannot believe that anyone in this country has not had this problem. I was told it will cost over a thousand dollars to fix! I didn"t break it! I called Ford and they said they could not do anything for me. Im am upset that nothing can be done for me from Ford, and I would like you to check into if anyone else has had this problem to see if it is a problem so it can be corrected because when it gets cold im going to need my defroster! my family has bought over 8 vehicle from this dealership and we our loyal Ford customers, also this car did have 20000 miles on it when I bought it, so this problem might have been there already! I would like this fixed and would like to get some feed back from you on this problem. Thank you.

While trying to turn on the air conditioning, a clicking can be heard and the air flow does not change over. Then during cooler days the heat is inoperative, (it stays on cold air) the clicking is persistent.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Explorer. The glass for the rear lift gate has developed cracks in it. The rear defroster was also inoperative. He notified the dealer, and a technician stated that it would cost $500. 00 to replace the component. The technician also added that they were aware of the failure. No repairs were made. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. He has pictures of multiple vehicles with the same model type, including his vehicle, with identical failures. The failure mileage was 55,000. The current mileage was 65,000.
While out of town, vacationing and touring for fall colors, I lost all power to the climate control system after a short coffee stop. When I started my Explorer I notice I had no heat, fans, defroster or power to the climate control system. Thinking I had blown a fuse, I opened the owners manual and checked the fuse diagram pages for the system that was not working. I checked all the fuses indicated but, I found none of them had blown. After detouring and heading for the local small town, I purchased an emergency fuse replacement and tester kit as it was now getting dark, trying to continue re-checking any fuses (while in the confined and most awkward place to install a fuse control panel under the dash board on the drivers side) was going to have to wait till daylight. On my return to my campsite I change the head lighting from auto to manual and pulled out on the knob to turn on the fog light system. As I did this all power to my climate control system returned and was working normal again. This could have been a real problem as the next morning I woke up to frost and 0` temperature and overcast for the day.
Ford Explorer 2001 blend door needs replaced. Car is in great condition except for this problem which is a safety issue I found out early one morning on a cold day when the windshield would not defrost and I could not see threw it while I was on the highway. I kept pulling over to wipe the windows and headed back home. I have made an appointment with Ford service and I know it's going to cost alot. After researching on the web I learned that this is a very common problem. I feel this should be a recall because it is a real safety issue and it is so common of a problem. Thank you, christine.

The blend door behind the glove compartment won't close. This prevents proper defrosting, heating and cooling regardless of the weather. In the winter freezing air blows through, chilling all passengers. In the summer, all the heat from the roads comes through. Our Ford dealer says they can fix it for over $1000!! there are too many of these defects on the road and Ford knew of the defect at least 2 years before my SUV was even made.
: the contact stated due to the heater being inoperable, the defroster did not operate. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, who determined the blend door needed to be replaced.
: the contact stated in an attempt to defrost the windshield, no heat was produced. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, who determined the blend door needed to be replaced.
Bought Explorer in the summer of 2006, went to turn on the heat only blows cold air unable to defrost windows. This is a 1997 Explorer that after talking to three different dealerships told me that they all do break and that Ford has made a stronger blend door to replace the defective one and they would be happy to replace for a cost of 1200. 00. After speaking to five or six different repair shops and finding the article by larry hammer of mighty auto parts I believe that Ford has a responsibility for its admitted factory design flaw.
The blend door on my 1997 Ford Explorer failed. This failure did not allow proper DE-fogging of the windshield.
The blend door, inside the heater plenum on the dash board of my 2000 Ford Explorer, failed. This is an extraordinarily expensive repair, and the history of this failure on this model is astounding. Once this failure occurs, there is no heat available in the cabin, especially dangerous when defrosting of glass is required.

Temperature out of control, defogging/defrosting challenged on a 1997 Ford Explorer. Was told it will it is due to defect in the air blend door. I can't defrost the windows which could be an accident waiting to happen.
Contact stated while using the defroster system the windshield cracked from the outside to the inside. Vehicle had not been to a service dealer, but was scheduled to be taken in this week.
Blend door on the heat and ac broken, cannot warm up interior of vehicle to defrost windows, it just blows cold air(maybe outside air). Has not been fixed yet.

The air conditioning blend door on my car is stuck and will not defrost the windshield even on cold winter and ice days, including during ice storms. This is a huge safety issue because we cannot get the ice off the windshield. We have been trying to get this problem resolved and fixed by Ford motor company for a long time now with no results. Now that its summer, the blend door is stuck on hot and its only blowing completely hot air - this is due to a known design and material defect with the blend door and has been reported by thousands of owners for all 1995 - 1999 Ford Explorers and still Ford refuses to fix it and to provide coverage to its consumers to fix it. In the winters this is a very serious safety issue because of the car's inability to defrost/defog the windshield.

The blend door is broken on my heater. . . Ever try to defrost a window when it is minus 5 with the air conditioner on. . ? this needs to be addressed in a recall campaign it is poorly designed and dangerous!.
Heater/ac temperature control. Temperature control door is stuck in the position for heat. Have talked to dealer they say inexpensive part, labor for repair is about 7 hours to be charged for. This dealer has had other complaints and fixed some. Checked with other dealers in area, they gave same answer as to cost and complaints. I am told this is a plastic bracket on door assembly that breaks when servo moves door to control hot or cool air flow.
Temperature control blend door does not work properly. Stuck on cold. Unable to defrost and defog windows.
Invalid design of plenum door leads to part failure resulting in inability to control temperature setting. Condition causes inability to control inside air temperature and possibly failure of defrost/defogging system (safety issue). Cost to repair is prohibitive ($500 to $1000) due to the need to remove the dashboard and the replacement of the entire air channel (because plenum door itself cannot be purchased/installed alone).
1997 Ford Explorer equipped with an electronic automatic temperature control system. The plastic air blend door in the heater plenum has broken, preventing the system from regulating the temperature.
The lend door is broken. . . Ford knows that they put faulty blend doors in and will not replace them! how do I defrost my winshield with a/c???? is a frosted winshield not a hazard???? this happens every day!.
With heater failure frost builds up on the windshield causing serious driving hazard. Dt.
From what I have read this is a common problem that Ford should have to fix via recall. This failure could be quite dangerous during winter conditions. It is apparent that Ford knows of this and has made changes in the way this door is constructed. Dt.
Heater blend door broken, Ford is aware of it in 1995 to about 1999-2000 Ford Explorers, with blend door broken there is not a proper flow of heat to the windshield, and the cost from Ford is $1000. 00 dollars to replace, and they state there is no recall or warranty.

The temperature control failed to regulate temperature I researched and found the blend door to be broken leaving me without the ability to defrost the winshield or regulate heat /cool this is a safety issue since I live in a climate that has snow /ice and cold as well as hot temperatures. This is a known problem and is dangerous and requires a nearly $1000. 00 fix to replace the blend door it was explained to me they had to remove the dash etc. This appears to be a Ford design issue and a known safety issue.
