Vehicle engine light came on. Took car into mechanic and found out a code points to a problem with the timing chain/cam position sensor. Prior to the engine light coming on car previously had (2) ransom issues that now after getting the diagnosis makes sense why the car was at times making a flutter sound when starting along with the engine randomly at times acting like to was going to stop running while driving the vehicle. I told Ford and the mechanic about it previously but they both said as long as there's no alarms keep driving it. The vehicle still drives good, but I was advised not to drive it until repairs made. The repair is $4,000. 00 and putting that kind of money into a vehicle that is currently valued at $8 to 10k with 136,000 based off my research is not prudent considering other things that will eventually need expensive repairs. I have taken good care of the vehicle along with keeping up on all services. Discussed with a couple experienced Ford mechanics and this repair is unfortunately very common. I bought the extended warranty when the car was new for your information. I hope Ford can stand behind this mechanical failure that apparently is a know issue and accommodate me for my loss of equity in a vehicle that should not be having this kind of well known breakdown. 1. Vehicle is available for inspection 2. Safety at risk when engine loses power and almost stops running 3. Yes, yesterday I was at the local Ford dealership met there top "heavy end" mechanic who was very familiar with the problem along with (2) independent expert mechanics familiar with the diagnosis. 4. The manufacturer yesterday saw the vehicle, after talking to the head mechanic, based off the code and systems I decided it was not prudent to throw money away on getting an official diagnosis based off my comfort level from the discussions with the mechanics. 5. Yes, the check engine light came on and I had the car promptly inspected by a mechanic.

I had took my truck to a nearby Ford dealership for a recall with the toe link to be repaired and yesterday on 01/30/2021 I was driving and the engine and steering wheel started shaking engine sounds like it's about to drop this happened while driving on a city street and once I hit the highway and I started to drive over 50 miles it made it worst, my truck was driving perfectly fine before I took it in to have that recall repaired.
This particular problem has occurred on more than one occasion, most recently today (January 30, 2021). While driving and then accelerating, the car sputtered and almost died. We were pulling into oncoming traffic and needed to accelerate. We pushed on the accelerator and the car made a sound as if it would speed up, instead it stalled. (a message flashed on the screen, but it was too quick for me to read. ) we were almost hit by a car before we were able to pull into a parking lot. We turned off the car and drove around for a few minutes. We went to pull back out onto the street and accelerate when it sputtered and stalled. We turned the car off and sat. We were lucky we were not on a highway or busier street.

Steering wheel shakes and engine sounds as it is going to stall at speeds between, 35 and 45 mph. Ford had vehicle for two weeks total and confirmed issues. They did not know how tp fix. They said vehicle is within specifications'.
2020 Ford Explorer st with approximately 1,927 miles. I started the vehicle and put it into drive and it started to roll forward even though my foot was on the brake. Regardless of how hard I pushed the brake, the car continued to inch forward until I fully depressed/repressed the brake. I shut off the vehicle, waited a few minutes, and attempted to restart. Upon the attempted restart, all lights on the dashboard began flashing and the engine failed to turnover. The in-dash display then began beeping, flashing service/hazard/warning indicators, and cycling through the following error messages: -park brake fault service now; -pre-collision assist not available; -service advancetrac; -driver door ajar; -steering assist fault service required; -check park aid; -see manual; -front camera fault service required; -full accessory power active; I turned off the vehicle and attempted a few more restarts ranging in intervals from an immediate start/stop, 1 minute, 5 minutes, and 10 minutes without success (same error messages displayed as described above). There were also no alert messages/notification in the Fordpass mobile app indicating the above failures. My next attempt was a few hours later and the vehicle started without error, but did not give any indication that the vehicle had failed to start the previous time. I stopped/restarted the vehicle again without error and put it into reverse and then drive and there did not appear to be any failure of the brake pedal. I took the vehicle for a test drive around my neighborhood and noticed that 1st and 2nd gear appeared to shift just fine, 3rd gear made a loud grinding/vibrating noise and took longer to shift than normal, and then the vehicle did a hard shift into 4th gear. I only got up to about 35 miles per hour, but the vehicle never shifted out of 4th gear, but appeared to hold the rpms higher than normal.

On March 2nd 2019 Ford Explorer sport with 1,800 miles was towed to thomassen Ford in charles town wv leaving owner stranded. Complained of strong fuel/gasoline odor inside the vehicle. Fuel/gasoline was leaking badly out of the vehicle onto the exhaust pipe. On March 4th notification was provided from service writer that none of the fuel lines or clamps were attached properly from the factory. Vehicle sat at thomassen Ford until March 27th when repairs were complete. April 9th 2019 some form of fluid leaked out of the parked vehicle for 8 hours after a 7 minute drive. Vehicle was taken to jerry's Ford in leesburg va "unable to duplicate" therefore no action was taken. There are photos of this issue. April 18th 2019 a strange noise coming from the steering column when driving. Vehicle was taken back to jerry's Ford in leesburg va "unable to duplicate" therefore again no action was taken. To this day the vehicle still makes the noise which has gotten progressively worse. There is video of this issue.

Won't turn off when turn off button is pushed to turn vehicle off, we have to keep pressing button on gear shift and it has taken 35 minutes to turn it off which just happend today oct. 30, 2018 it has raised the driver seat twice all by iteself while the vehicle has been turned off and no one is in the vehicle when this has happened. It makes odd noises inside the dash when vehicle is turned off.
There is a strong smell of what I could only at first describe as natural gas or propane (rotten eggs) entering the cabin. It was compounded when I put turned the cabin heat on. With winter upon us the smell enters the heating ducts making it nearly unbearable. Furthermore while driving under normal acceleration on a minor road there was an audible pop (as if a hose beneath the engine came off) and a fluttering noise with loss of power. I am assuming a turbo or waste gate hose came off on its own. Once the hose popped off the smell was undeniably singed motor oil. After 30 years of doing oil changes I can assure you it is the smell of burning motor oil. I have seen many such odor complaints on the 3. 5 litre eco boost turbo. There is definitely a problem affecting many if not all turbo eco boost engines. Please investigate this dangerous noxious singed oil odor. I purchased this vehicle in may 2017 as a certified used car, it is currently in the dealership for repair. I am available to assist in any way to help with the investigation. I am an owner of a vehicle with the takata recall, this condition and nauseating smell is far far worse. Please help.

Husband was driving the vehicle was about to accelerate to get up a hill on a city street and engine sounded like transmission or other major part just "dropped". Steering wheel froze, car idled violently, could not move vehicle, started to roll backwards until emergency brake was applied. Acceleration went to literally zero,SUV would not move. Orange wrench light came on, stated to see manual. Placed car in park shut off engine and waited and started at back up again. Scarry stuff, 2 children 2 and younger in vehicle. Won't let me input on next page, approximately 25-30 miles an hour, SUV has 5,500 miles on it.

I had just exited a major highway & began driving on the rural roads in my neighborhood when my vehicle suddenly decelerated and wasn't able to go over 25 mph. The wrench icon then appeared. I was able to make it to the beginning of my driveway about 5 miles away. The engine then began malfunctioning, making noise & shaking.
We bought our vehicle used in 2015 with less than 40k miles on it. It is our main, family vehicle. The first issues started with paint chipping on the hood. The Ford store we bought it from never stated this was a problem. We did notice it after having it at home and it has gradually become worse. I have had usaa inspect it and they said it looks like "someone drove it where there was high sulfur present"---near water or etc. The second issue is with the engine. On several occasions our vehicle has failed to turn over at the first start. Will sit there and make noises like it is trying but fail and turn off. One instance happened while we were driving on a street road. Car had trouble starting and then shut off randomly. We have contacted usaa and taken the vehicle to our local Ford dealership but they cannot seem to help resolve either issues. Upon conducting our own research I see that these are re-occurring issues with other owners, across the us and Ford has yet to resolve. Vehicle is unsafe.
Submission from constituent re a filed complaint with Ford motor company and would like to be reimburse for all the cost by Ford. The consumer stated when he attempted to start the vehicle, it would not crank. He replaced the battery, but the vehicle still would not start. The vehicle was towed to a local garage. The next day, the consumer was informed, the engine had seized. There was no warning from the dash indicators, no engine sounds, and the oil was at the proper level. It cost $3,669. 98 to replace the engine.

I was driving on a two lane road with a speed limit of 55mph. I was behind a slow moving vehicle and wanted to pass it. There was another vehicle approaching in the oncoming lane and I thought I had enough distance to pass. As I turned into the oncoming lane and began to accelerate to pass this vehicle, I heard a strange noise like a "poof" and my vehicle lost power and slowed. Fortunately, there was enough distance between me and the oncoming vehicle and the oncoming vehicle had a wide shoulder . After that, I noticed the vehicle seemed to have less power on acceleration. About two months later it started leaking oil on the left front side. It is a sport model.
Driving at 45 mph ,transmisson shifted with a jerky motion ,first started then. When you first take off it jerks and makes a noise. When you back up it jerks hard enough it wips you body back. Had it checked at a transmisson place. They tore it down and found nothing ( $400). Still jerks and shifts rough. Don't know how long it's going to last.

My 2002 Ford Explorer has blown the timing chains in the engine. Plastic parts that wear out easy and caused the chains to fail. Now I am looking for a replacement engine. The engine is v6 and it only had 95,000 miles on it. This truck has been well cared for and this should never have happened. Ford is using faulty parts and causing this damage to their product and now the consumer will have to pay big bucks for repairs due to their cheap and shoty parts used by Ford. The truck started making noise and thought that it was the converter and a very short time after that first noise the engine froze and stopped running. Their really was not alot of time from noise to failure of engine. The oil was changed every 3,000 miles, so it was not from failing to change the oil, it was changed regularly. I love this truck, it drives great, comfortable and for me not bad on gas at all. I will replace the engine somehow. The cost of any new truck is out of my range, so I have no choice but to try and fix it. Does anyone have anything to offer me on this subject? thanks.

I own a 2002 Ford Explorer and for the second time 5 months the same spark plug that was repaired by the Ford dealership has blown out of the engine. There was a loud pop and very loud repetitive engine noise. There was a very strong smell of gasoline, and loss of power. Ford says that this is a common problem and refuses to fix the problem. This is an outrage!!!!!!.
Front brakes has a rubbing, screaming sound, louder when turning or applying brakes, sometimes the steering wheel is hard to turn when this is happening, not for sure if the noise is coming from the front, middle or the back it is so loud, we have 4 years of the sound on tapes. Thought the tapping would help Ford motor company at bluebonnet find the problem, instead we were laughed at and treated rudely. The gear shift has been replaced twice by Ford and still has sticking problem, we even had the Ford corp involved, no solution of the matter has been resolved as of today, Ford corp office offered us a employee rate, but when speaking with a salesperson from blue bonnett Ford, we would
loose the $10,000. 00 we put down, I have a vehicle we refuse to drive long distance, in fact we rent a vehicle to go out of town, because Ford could not tell me if it is safe or unsafe, we has owner feel it is dangerous.

I was only about 1 mile from home, the vehicle had no previous problems, I heard a strange sound then the vehicle was not running properly, I could smell fuel or some sort of odor, as I attempted to pull the vehicle over, there was no brakes or steering, I also could see smoke coming from the engine, I managed to get the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was also starting to fill with smoke inside very quickly. I was able to get out of the car. It would not engage in park, and rolled while I was trying to exit. I called 911, but the vehicle was already entirely engulfed in flames.
Driving and heard engine noise engine stalled wouldn't start in the middle of rush hour traffic. . . I was going downhill and able to roll to the side out of traffic and to safety. Engine froze while driving with no warning, no signs. . . In the middle of traffic endangering myself and my daughter. My car sat 2 weeks at the Ford dealer as they received 5 cars with engines frozen and couldn't get to my car until 7/8/05 cause they had to replace engines. When engine was torn down I was advised a valve spring broke and dropped into the cylinder tearing up the engine and now I need a new engine. Ford motor will not back up their product.
Driving on the expressway, when we got off & we tried to stop my husband heard a revving noise the car did not want to come to a complete stop. He shut the car off and the problem continued. The car was accelerating on its own. We had to shut the car off & coast to a stop because the brakes were not working either. We were lucky not to rear-end someone & that no one in the car including my 2 small children were hurt. The same thing happened 4 days earlier. I was also thankful my husband was driving. The car had to be towed. I have taken this car in 5 other times for related problems. They can never seem to find a problem. This is a lease car & I have had it for 1yr 9mths. It was first serviced 1 month after I got it for a related problem. I do not feel safe driving my family or self anymore in this car, it is so unpredictable.
Front end shakes and the vehicle floats. Vehicle wanders in between lanes. Dealer replaced front shocks, but the loose feeling is still there. The vehicle was vibrating due to bent rim. The brake failed at 6000 miles. There was engine noise and the cause was not known. The tires were on recall and were replaced by firestone. The shcock absorbers also failed.

Windshield wipers replaced once. Also, two different descriptions of engine noise.
Engine noise noticed on second day of ownership. Noise happens when accelerating from a stop or low speed. Also, a metal flapping sound coming from under the hood when driving at high speeds. Dealer has been contacted. My Explorer has been in the shop 3 times for this problem. The first time they ha it overnight and said that they didn't hear the noise. The second time Ford issued a service bulletin and we were called by the dealer to bring it in again. This time they said they heard the noise and were going to come up with a fix or replace the engine, and they would notify me within 90 days as to what they were going to do. I had to call the dealer in 90 days and they said Ford will not fix the problem because it will not affect the longevity or performance of the engine. Is there any information on this. Please advise.
