Failure Date: 12/17/2020

Very loud noise from the engine was told it was the supercharger but it sounds like a constant clicking. We took it back and dealership told us it was fixed. 2 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 02/18/2020

For weeks now the car has been deciding what to do. The air conditioner randomly turns off or won't turn on. The window won't roll up or down. Lights in the dashboard randomly go on and off all the time. Sometimes there is just a loud noise but no lights. Then recently when I was driving on the highway going 55 mph with my 3 children the car shut its self off. The lights went crazy then shut off. There was no gas or brakes as I was going 55 mph. Once the car came to a rolling stop. It did not turn back on. Once towed to the dealership, they cannot find anything wrong.

10 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 1996 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I own a 1996 Ford Explorer sport 4x4, 4. 0 liter v6 with 5 speed manual transmission. This is a motor made in germany and the truck, in the louisville, ky. Ford plant. Rodents took up residence in the heating system, and filled the heater blower assembly and ducting with scavenged materials, which took up approx. 1 cubic foot of space, once extracted. Much to my benefit, the material just so happened to be fire resistant stuffing from my archery target, stored in the same building. I started my vehicle and immediately upon turning on the heater, I heard a terrible noise which ended abruptly. My heater stopped when the noise stopped. In an effort to diagnose the problem I inspected the engine compartment. I then noticed a burnt smell, but saw no smoke. Upon replacing my blower motor I inspected the old one, which has charred remnants of the foreign material inside and wrapped around the electrical components. The only opening to the inner components of the blower motor is about 1" in diameter and has a rubber tube plugged into it. It appeared undisturbed and was connected when I first serviced it. I also discovered an opening on the lower side of the blower fan housing, near the firewall. This unobstructed opening facilitated the rodents' entry to the heating system. It is of my opinion this is unsafe, and had the foreign material not been flame resistant, I'm convinced my vehicle would have burned. I entered my VIN number into Ford's official web site, and was returned zero results for recalls of any sort. I did not find any recalls related to heater blowers for similar models either. I have repaired the heating system but am at a loss for how to prevent this in the future, as this opening still exists and I'm unaware of any sanctioned remedies.

11 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer

This is a known transmission problem yet no Ford recall. Unacceptable!!!.

13 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/26/2010

I backed SUV out of garage and put in park, got out of vehicle while still running (to close garage door), closed the SUV door, turned around and saw that SUV was moving forward into my garage. I opened the SUV door while it was moving and jumped in the drivers seat, pushed on the brake and SUV did not stop, I was looking down at the floor to see why SUV did not stop, pulled up my foot and placed it back down on the brake. SUV still did not stop. It then made a loud noise like the engine was reeving up and then the SUV took off forward, ran through the back of my garage, ran through my back yard, ran over a tree in the yard, ran through my back yard fence and my neighbor's fence and crashed into the back side of neighbor's house. All while this was occurring, I was inside of the vehicle with my left leg sticking out of the car (since I jumped in the SUV in a hurry, I didn't realize that my leg was still out of the SUV), I continually attempted to step on the brakes (each time lifting my foot up so that I could place it directly on the brake), the engine reeved up again while going through the yard. The only thing that stopped the SUV was the tall concrete foundation of my neighbor's house that it ran into. I jumped out of the SUV, fell to the ground and laid there for a few seconds before I realized that my SUV was still running, then I jumped back into the SUV and turned the ignition off.

15 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/11/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Explorer. While driving 25 mph, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle continued to drive, but the noise did not stop. He pulled the vehicle over and shut off the engine because he began to smell fuel. The contact discovered that the number three spark plug on the passenger side of the engine failed. The vehicle had the original spark plugs. When he attempted to replace and rethread the spark plug, it would not grip and tighten. The vehicle was towed to a shop and the contact was informed that it was a common failure. The repair shop performed a quick repair by Ford, but it did not correct the failure. Ford stated that they were aware of the failure, but there were no recalls and could not assist. The vehicle is currently at the shop and has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 86,214.

16 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/11/2008

I was driving my eddie bauer Ford Explorer 4. 6l v8 when I heard a large explosion sound coming from the engine. I immediately pulled off the road and called for help. I had my car towed to a shop where they told me the spark plug shot out of the engine and this should never happen. Apparently the coil where it threads into was manufactured incorrectly so it never sat all the way on like it should. Over time this is the result. I now need a new cylinder head costing $1800, and maybe a 2nd one down the road. That's $4,000 for Ford's mistake! Ford said they can't help. There is no recall. I was stranded on the side of a busy road in traffic risking my safety for their defective product! this is highway robbery! (literally).
