I am having some issues with my 2013 Ford Explorer and Ford dealership. . In the nut shelf apparently they have been some issued already recorded about the smell of exhaust in the cabin especially on the highway if you trying to get on or pass someone etc. . � I have been telling Ford in tallassee (where we purchased the car) and long lewis in prattville the same thing� they told me that they never heard of such and that there was nothing wrong with my car� anyway my car is back in tallassee at the Ford dealership� now they said yes it is an issue but my extended warranty won't cover it b/c it's an update and not a part that needs to be fixed� the update is $1300� needless to say I don't have the money to pay for it right now. . The main issue is that of course, Ford is aware of the problem but won't issue a recall� the muffler exhaust goes inside the cabin I/o outside which is why the smell is so bad�. Me and my family have been breathing carbon monoxide every time we get in the car. . Especially long ride, we all get headaches�. Couple years ago I started being with headaches and migraines and have been put on meds� I never had migraines before we got the car� coincidence??? don't think so.

I noticed a yellow fluid leaking from the thermostat housing. I took it to a mechanic and he said that the antifreeze was leaking from somewhere in the manifold, probably the thermostat housing. We replaced the thermostat housing and brand new o-rings and added silicone sealant around the affected areas. We are still seeing the leaking. I have seen this complaint numerous times and it is time that Ford take responsibility for the plastic parts that are connected to the engine. Ford must use metal parts to replace these for me because plastic warps in the heat of florida. The affected parts are the thermostat housing and it's connection to the engine. I have a 2006 Ford Explorer eddie bauer 4. 0 with 55k mileage. Good maintenance always, oil changed regularly, fluids checked and maintained regularly. Ford must fix this!.

The problem is a sudden cracking of the intake manifold causing slow coolant loss. When the intake fails the engine coolant pours out and the engine quickly overheats.

I was leaking antifreeze. Brought to mechanic. He changed the intake manifold. A tune up was also done. Now periodic smell of antifreeze and oil at different times. Very potent. Mechanic is aware of these problems, but cannot find anything wrong after doing many pressure tests and flushes.

This is to add information to a previous complaint. Odi number 10207581. There was a sudden failure of the engine that resulted in sudden lockup of the engine, resulting in complete loss of power and control. This happened on a residential street at low speed. However a very busy intersection with high speed traffic had just been navigated. If the failure had happened at that intersection, the failure would have probably resulted in severe injuries or loss of life. The engine failure was sudden and without warning. By sudden, my wife described the noise as rattle, crunch, bang with everything locking up in less than 5 seconds. The engine was running perfectly up to the time of failure. The car began smoking from the exhaust immediately after the failure and my wife feared the vehicle was catching on fire. When the vehicle was towed, a large quantity (1 to 2 quarts)of engine coolant drained from the muffler. This indicates to me that a sudden failure of an internal engine seal, gasket, manifold, etc. If a part fails this suddenly, the part was either defective, improperly designed, or improperly assembled.
I had to replace the intake manifold of the 1996 Ford Explorer at mile number 163400 on March 30, 2007. It was leaking at #1 cylinder. There was a 'ecret warranty' in effect. I beleived for Explorer's 10 years old and younger. Mine was just over the 10 year mark.

2000 Explorer XLT with approximately 55000 miles. Taken to dealer to be served c for stalling and failure to restart with high temperature. Dealer reported that engine hds coolant and oil mixing and will have to be replaced, $3500 cost. When I objected, dealer then stated that the lower intake manifold gasket failed, and that the engine will need to be torn down to fix , 2,000. . I objected again, and dealer decided to replace gasket, flush oil, coolant systems, and return to the road , $1100. Dealer informed me that they could not be held responsible for future engine failure due to coolant in engine. I investigated, and found secret warranty service bulletin , nets number 616816. When I attempted to recover cost of repair under sb, dealer refused, claiming that sb extension was over , ended December 2006. This vehicle had less than the limited mileage under the warranty, and obvious driving rates less than expected under the warranty , original and secret extension. . Customers have not been made aware of this secret warranty extension. Engine gaskets, including head gaskets and manifold gaskets were not owner serviced items, and were expected to live as long as the power plant. I expected Ford to live up to their product hype and fix this vehicle for free, including complete engine replacement if required.

Dt:1998 Ford Explorer. While driving the vehicle shut off and was almost involved in a wreck this was the first time this happened. The consumer took the vehicle to dealership, who informed the consumer there were recalls 00m12 and 01m01, but the recalls expired, dealership said they were not official recalls. Ford m said it was the intake manifold gasket.
The tailpipe on the 2005 Ford Explorer had burned the left side of the bumper. The tailpipe was found to be too flexible. The dealerships final conclusion was that the problem was due to driver error.

When the automobile(Ford Explorer 1999 sohc v6) is in cold weather and you start it it seems to misfire or act like there is an air leak. I have read several post on the internet and people seem to see this problem alot on certain year Ford Explorers. The have said that it is caused by an air leak around the exhaust manafold that only shows up when the engine is cold because the part is shrunk and does not fit but once the car warms up the part expands and acts as if there is no problems. When starting the car in warm weather you never see this problem. I have not had this fixed on my car since I park in a garage I rarely see this.

My 1997 Ford Explorer has an intake manifold failure. I understand by reading many message boards and other complaints on the internet that Ford has recalled this item on some vehicles but not all. I really can't believe that Ford would actually use a plastic intake on anything. I believe it is a break down in judgement and Ford should be responsible for the replacement of this part.

2000 Ford Explorer motor skips and races when started up. ** answer required***. The vehicle ran rough and the gas mileage was poor. The vehicle was taken tot he dealer. The dealer cleaned the manifold but this did not rectify the problem. The vehicle was taken back to and independent mechanic who ran a diagnostic test. The test concluded that the fuel pressure regulator needed to be replaced and the manifold needed to be removed and cleaned. It appeared that the dealer never cleaned the manifold as they stated.
While driving engine reached high temperatures due to intake manifold failure. Coolant went inside the engine.
Engine surging when cold. I have had the codes read and will not tell what the problem is. Poor gas mileage. Valves rattling when start up of engine for several secounds and then stops rattling. Black sutt in exhaust pipe.
Front end felt loose and vehicle was veering to the right due to cracked ball joints. Engine check light appeared, and a red brown liquid was leaking from driver's side because power steering rack was defective. Also, dealer replaced timing gear, and upper and lower intake manifolds.
2002 Ford Explorer 4. 6 v8, approx. 78000 miles. While driving my spark plug (unknown number - second in on drivers side), blew out. Was able to replace it. No more then 30 minutes of driving same plug was spit out again. This time unable to replace it.
"check engine" light came, but car appeared to run/perform normally. When the light came on, I was low on fuel. Had dealer check, reported taht I needed new fuel pump, there were leaks at intake gaskets & cost to repair would be about $1,200. Second scan by another auto shop could not get the same computer "codes" as dealer. "check engine" light was reset. On 1/24/2002, when fuel tank was very low, "check engine" came on again. Not convinced what the problem is! I am certain that water in the fuel is part of the problem. I am not convinced that a new fuel pump is needed.

Consumer was informed by dealer that the chain tensioner broke and the engine needed replaced, consumer had used engine put in vehicle, consumer received a letter (o00m12) extending the warranty on the camshaft chain tensioner (00m12) and lower intake manifold gaskets, if any repairs were performed because of a faulty camshaft chain prior to December of 2000, Ford would give a full reimbursement, the used engine that was installed has the same defect and consumer is requesting a new engine be installed plus refund of the used engine, Ford stated they would not replace the engine, only give reimbursement for the used engine.
Intake manifold and the exhaust gas sensors had to be replaced prematuraly.
Started vehicle in mornings, and it ran rough. Also, motor stalled. Contacted dealer. Dealer indicated that intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced. Was told by dealer that they were on national backorder.
Was smelling fumes inside vehicle. Noticed fuel from exhaust pipe. Parked vehicle & checked underneath & saw the leakage. Have taken vehicle to dealer. Was informed fuel injectors were open. This was causing the leakage problem.
