The vehicle failed the inspection related to recall 25c42. Since owning the vehicle, I have experienced repeated intermittent failures of multiple safety and driver-assistance systems, which raise serious safety concerns. The pre-collision assist system has activated without any apparent reason on four separate occasions, including situations where there were no vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles present. These unexpected activations are alarming and could increase the risk of a collision. I fear for my safety when driving the vehicle due to these unpredictable safety system activations. Additionally, the rear cross traffic alert system functions intermittently and does not activate consistently when vehicles are present, further reducing confidence in the vehicle’s safety systems. While driving, the vehicle’s phone connectivity system has disconnected unexpectedly, and during these events the gps/navigation system became unavailable, preventing the use of turn-by-turn directions. These failures occur while the vehicle is in motion and contribute to driver distraction and safety concerns. The vehicle was inspected for recall 25c42, and I was informed that the required repair cannot be completed because the replacement part is on backorder until June. As a result, the vehicle continues to be operated with known and unresolved safety-related defects for an extended period of time. These issues occur intermittently and without warning, making them difficult to reproduce or diagnose. Due to the ongoing malfunction of critical safety systems and the delay in recall repairs, I fear for my safety while driving this vehicle.

The backup camera is not working which is already a known defect. The sensors in the back of the vehicle also intermittently sound an alert when nothing is behind the vehicle.

Backup camera doesn't always work. It displays a black screen alot of times.
Rear camera not working properly, dashboard screen starts rapidly flickering when vehicle put in reverse. Unable to see if anything is behind vehicle.
I see they are recalling backup cameras on Ford Explorers mine has not worked properly for years. When backing up the camera shows objects on the left side of car on the right and vice versa. Example if im backing up and a car is coming from the passenger side of car in parking lot it shows it coming from the drivers side. It also stays on while driving and sometimes shows and black screen and distorted images. The date below is just this report date because I can't submit without.
The back up camera works only intermittently. It's fine sometimes and other times I just get a black screen. This has been going on for a year or more.
The rear traffic warning did not alert timely, resulting in a fender bender in a parking lot. I have dash cam footage with audio supporting that it did not beep until it was too late.

Backup camera doesn’t come on when in reverse. Works maybe 20% of the time. Other maybe 80%, the screen doesn’t do anything or says error.
My rear view camera goes to a dark blue or gray s screen with the words “check surroundings for safety” & “camera is unavailable” and it does not work. This is the same recall issue that is on 1,900+ plus vehicles from a recall. I have called and filled a complain with Ford and have visited 3 dealers in our area and that is what they tell me. I have photos and I need this repair done ASAP because I travel with an [xxx] I’ve called Ford four different times since July and I keep getting the run around and visit different t dealers that tell me that it is the same problem as the recall but the Explorers are not yet part of the recall. I need your help please thank you [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The reverse camera does not work, when the car is in reverse. There is no visual on the monitor, which makes it unsafe when the car is in reverse, took the car to the dealer, was told that this car is not in recall.
When the car is put into reverse. The reverse camera display is delayed in showing or shows a blue screen in lieu of the rear view. It started to happen around the 26 or 28,000 mile mark.
I own a 2018 Ford Explorer there has been an issue when it’s cold out the apim is not responding and turning on the reverse camera when vehicle is put into reverse. When it is above 70 degrees fahrenheit the apim works intermittently. The problem with this is out of the blue when it decides to work at times it turns the radio on with volume at max level this has startled me not knowing it’s going to come on and it won’t let you turn the radio down or power it off. Ford says there is no recall on the issue.

The backup camera and related system on the 2022 Ford Explorer st has malfunctioned and failed to show any images. I'd had the vehicle to the dealer on 3 occasions, whereby I've just learned the issue was improperly diagnosed by another dealer as a faulty camera, but the real problem of a faulty processor was diagnosed and therefore not replaced. This issue puts me, other vehicles and pedestrians in particular risk as there is not rear camera image being projected. The problem has been confirmed by two dealers, diagnosed and now indication is to repair it. This is clearly part of the broader issues Ford is having with rear camera back-up systems.
Screen is blue by reverse.

Every 6 months, the rear cameras, cross traffic sensors and blind spot warning go out and completely stop functioning. I take it to the dealer tland they keep it for 1-2 weeks and eventually replace a fuse and send it home. This has happened four times. No one will actually correct the root cause ti the issue. It's going on its third week in the shop this time.
The camera system does not work and disables the reverse braking and other safety features while reversing. This is a safety concern as while backing up to a trailer I have hit it 2 times, as the image will freeze and seems as if there is still room to continue backing up. I have taken this 4 times for recalls (since 2020) and none of them resolved it.

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request??the issue pertains to a water leak in the rear liftgate area and/or water accumulation in the spare tire area, potentially accompanied by a lack of audio functionality in my 2020 Ford explore st as outlined in TSB 24-2044 (NHTSA 102514). The affected component is the rear liftgate structure and associated seals, which allow water ingress, particularly noticeable after car washes or rainfall. The entire sound system to include any collision and impact warnings have failed to chime. 2. ?the water leak in the rear liftgate and spare tire area poses potential safety risks. Accumulated water can damage electrical components, such as wiring or audio systems, which may lead to malfunctions in critical vehicle systems. For example, water ingress could affect rear lighting, sensors, or other electronic modules, potentially compromising visibility or functionality during operation. Additionally, water accumulation may contribute to corrosion or mold growth, posing long-term structural or health risks for occupants. These issues could reduce vehicle reliability and increase the risk of accidents, especially in adverse weather conditions. 3. The issue has been acknowledged by Ford in TSB 24-2044, which provides a service procedure to identify and address the leak path. The bill currie Ford dealership in tampa, FL has inspected my vehicle on several occasions, recently July 15, 2025 and confirmed water leakage in the rear liftgate area consistent with TSB 24-2044. The dealer will not repair unless I pay over $2200 for the repair, which I refuse for a manufacture defect. 4. To date, the vehicle has not been inspected by the police or insurance representatives, but the issue align with the TSB report. 5. Water observed in the spare tire & tailgate area every time since purchase. A loss of audio back in July 2023 and numerous occasions since complete failure as of January 3 2024.
The back up camera fails basically 1 out of 5 times it's engaged between skipping or just straight blue/black screen. The screen is out and causes blind spots while backing up.
Rear cross traffic alert stopped working . No warning signs. Out of warranty 2015 Ford Explorer. When backing up and someone walks behind vehicle audible alert does not work. Only 35,000 miles on vehicle, original owner. Dashboard screen still works. First time occurance. Screen menu shows alert is turned on.
Rear camera is faulty. Screen will “roll” like bad movie film. Sometimes it’s a black screen. Sometimes the screen doesn’t change at all and says to contact dealer.
I am reporting countless incidences of my backup camera screen going to black or blue when the gear shift is selected to reverse. This has happened multiple times a day, week, month, etc. And is extremely frustrating. I am reporting in hopes to do anything I can to get the software fix expedited because it has been occurring for too long without a fix. T=the only "fix" (if you can even call it that) for this problem is to stop what you are doing, put your car in park, turn the car off, open the driver's door to "reset", and then turn your car back on again in hopes that the backup camera / 360 view is back to functioning within normal limits. That is unacceptable!!! it is not safe and anyone experiencing this issue should not have to stop their car, open a door, and restart it just to get the backup camera to work. I have contacted my dealership, Ford corporate offices, and now you guys in hopes to get this process going and the software to be fixed. Thank you - please contact for any questions or more information.
The rear camera has not worked since the vehicle was purchased in spring of 2021. It has now been "repaired" 3 times based on open recalls. However the issue is a known issue and can not be fixed. We have now been told they will. Nees to replace the camera which is on indefinite backorder. This is a huge vehicle safety issue Ford is aware of and yet not one of their alleged recalls actually resolves this serious issue.
The rear view camera system will intermittently display a blue screen. Dealer service has downloaded new software updates with no success.
Rear backup camera stopped working a year ago. The rear of the car is a huge blind spot and have had a few close calls with pedestrians and other vehicles' when backing out of parking spots. My son also has a 2013 Explorer and his rear camera stopped working several years ago.
Apim module failure at 148 miles on a brand new 2022 Explorer XLT. Sync display went black. No response to touch. No warning lamps or alerts. Radio still plays and can be controlled by steering wheel controls. Contacted dealer and they said to disconnect negative battery terminal for more than 30 minutes. Performed requested action. Display is still dark. No reverse camera or safety (adas) functions. Took it to dealer again and they ran diagnostics to determine apim module failure. So now I have a brand new Explorer with reduced safety features and no center console display. I cannot control any adas or radio features. Dealer has no estimated timeline for repair. Dealer also stated that they are getting apim module failures daily.
The Ford Explorer st when shifting into reverse, sporadically, the backup camera presents a blue screen, preventing all visibility while attempting to drive in reverse. It appears that none of the warning signals are operational when getting close to people or objects when the camera isn't working, thus presenting a hazardous condition as all safety features do not function. Apparently, there are similar recalls on some Explorer models but my particular vehicle is one that is not included in the previous pool of vehicles that are eligible for the recall repair.
Rear back up camera only works intermittently.

The entire main console screen/information center went black one day. It was unable to be manually reset. Occasionally, on very hot days, the screen would work for the first start up. There are major safety issues associated with this: 1- inability to enable calling for help/911. There is a remote on the steering wheel to make phone calls, however, when the carplay is active and the phone is connected, you must only use the screen, the steering wheel feature is automatically disabled 2- the backup camera system is inoperable when the screen is black. This is dangerous as you cannot see hazards behind you including children, other vehicles, etc. When I contacted Ford's it department to first report it, they said this has been an ongoing issue with updates that they were aware of, but unable to fix. Skalnek Ford in lake orion attempted to diagnose the safety issue for weeks and ultimately the apim needed replacement.
When reversing the rear camera display turns blue and I'm not able to see anything behind me using the safety camera feature. I rely on the camera to assist with detecting people or objects in my blind spots while reversing and intermittently the display turns blue. There was a recall for this make and model and manufacture date, but the vehicle is not included in the recall. Recall information - rearview camera recall 21c09. The dealership can't reproduce the issue because it's intermittent and there are no error codes, so they won't replace the camera. They've tried several software fixes but the problem continues. No warning messages displayed when the issue occurs. Thanks.
Recall 21v735000 was performed by sakelaris Ford of rolla, missouri on December 9, 2021. On February 28, 2022 the problem of the "blue screen" backup camera display again occurred and has been occurring regularly ever since. I have not yet contacted the dealer to reschedule a follow up pending correspondence from the NHTSA.
I purchased this 2020 Ford Explorer st, used while still under factory warranty. Within a week or two the ipmb module started malfunctioning, this affects all of the safety systems to include reverse brake assist, lane keeping assist, rear view camera and more. I have had the vehicle in two different dealerships over 9 times in the 15 months I have owned this SUV, and within days of the problem being fixed the unit malfunctions again. I have tried to have the vehicle bought back by the dealer through their customer service program and the bbb of michigan, to witch both claims have been denied claiming that the chicle does not fall under the nys lemon law policy for used cars. The issue I have is this problem started within 1-2 weeks if purchasing the vehicle. What are the next steps that can be taken to have Ford motor company but this vehicle from me, as there is recall after recall on the unit in question.
When putting the car in reverse it jerks back if the pedal is touched which has almost caused an accident. It takes about a minute or two to adjust backing up and the rear camera does not show until the clutch has adjusted.
When switched to reverse, the screen turns blue and says rear parking assist disabled.
