general problems of the 1997 Ford F-150 - part 2

I was experiencing my vehicle pulling to the right so I slowed down to about 65 mph. I then heard a loud noise and felt my truck jump. I pulled to the side of the road. I saw that my tread was completely removed from the crown of the tire. The tread coming off caused damage to my vehicle. I am waiting to hear from general about fixing my truck. After seeing my tire fall apart, my first thoughts were of firestone. My tire did exactly what firestone had done! thank you! (tiresize: 235r70-16)( dot number: tire size: 235r70-16 ).

2 tires already seperated,have 1 seperating on truck now-all the same make and size the one now is the third tire that seperated( dot number: w208 tire size: p235/70r16 ).

-right rear tire tread seperated; approx. 24 inches in length by 4 inches in width; tread seperated from the inner most load bearing area( dot number: tire size: 235/70r16 ).

8/10/00 '97 Ford f150 4x2 supercab w/firestone wilderness ht p235/70r16ol inspected by firestone @ 5417 mcardle in cc texas found 1 tire w/thread separation. Told this tire was not under recall notice & questioning why not. This is the number on the bad tire u9766exbm08945-3 these are the numbers for the other tires including spare: u9762exbm08945-3; 25324gx8m08945-3; u9988exbm12656 (this one made in canada all others made in USA) firestone dealer only would give me any adjustment for the one bad tire & said this was in no way connected with the present firestone tire recall. Was told not to worry about these ht tires. Have always checked psi @ 32 to 35 & rotated tires every 6000 miles & as a owner of a Ford vehicle w/firestone wilderness ht tires this problem should be investigated further. Pe00-020; original equipment on 1997, Ford f150 with 50,000 miles, p 235/70r16 and dot # w208pt1247. Two front tires were coming apart, tread was pulling apart. Consumer can stick hand into the tire that was pulling apart.

During vacation 2 tires had tread separation during trip over mtn passes in CO after being in ar & TX. Tires were removed before any incident. Still have tires. This is the 3rd set of original style of tires that this has happened to since buying the truck new in 1996. ( dot number: w208 tire size: 235/70r16 ).

Heading south on i75, tire started feeling rough. Slowed to 68 mph. Tire exploded leaving trail of black smoke near macon. Took it to nearest firestone dealer on 08/11/00. Told me it wasn't one of the tires in current recall. Would order replacement to arrive in 6 days. No status. Tire is still in bed of my truck. Vehicle has firestone wilderness tires where every day consumer has to put air in.

The inside of the right front tire was pulling away from the tire itself.

While driving between 70 - 75 mph tread on the passenger's side right rear tire came completely off. There were five passenger's in the vehicle. Driver was able to control vehicle, and no one was injured. The truck is a 97, f150, VIN # [xxx]. Tire size p2357016. The tire was not sold on the truck. Vehicle expereinced two tire failures, tread separating from casing both on r/r. First occurred at 31,000 miles, second occurred at 38000 miles. ( dot number: tire size: p23570r 16 ).

At 31,500 the right rear tire developed a large blister where the tread was separating from the casing. I replaced the tire. Less than 7000 miles later the tread on the rplacement tire separated from the casing. ( dot number: tire size: 16 ).

Tires peel off also on my p235/70r16 I turn them into firestone centers store # 029386 which cause me an accident on I-75 accident report no #00-03-0004964 fhp. ( dot number: 864180 tire size: p235/75r16 ).

Entire tread/belt separated from tire which damaged the fender and exhaust system upon its departure from the vehicle. ( dot number: a308443416 tire size: p235/70r16 ).

Failure was sudden and catastrophic. By the time I regained control of the vehicle and got to the side of the road there wasnt any tire left. I did not hit anything visible on the road and I was paying attention as I was passing a semi. ( dot number: not known tire size: p235/70r16 ).

I had complete tread separation on one front tire and the beginnings of tread separation on the other front tire on 02/15/00 while traaveling west on I-30 to dallas, texas. The following day both tires were replaced at the Ford dealership at my expense. Joe cambell the service advisor took me back when the truck was up on the rack and showed me the tires. He said, "boy, you were driving on air the last 20 miles! I am surprised you didn't die in a crash from a blow-out. " ( dot number: 027471 tire size: p235/70r16 ).

Ford dealer informed me that tires were seperating. I replaced all four tires. Spare is still same tires as original. Spare has w208 code ( dot number: w208 tire size: p23570r16 ).

While driving at 25 mph front passenger's side tire came off, and consumer lost control. Vehicle skidded and hit a telephone pole.

Initial tire seperated and caused loss of control on hwy between ft. Stoketon, TX and carlsbad, nm. Replaced with spare. Two tires partial seperated on or shortly after trip back to san antonio. All five tires replaced with michelin ( dot number: tire size: oem ).

One tire delaminated at high speed. Filed claim with firesrtone for replacing tire & repair of trck damage. They did so under firestone incident #018399. While claim beng processed, about a week later we noticed two more tires with metal wires poking thru sides of tread. Tok truck to irestone store tucson, az. Emplyee aware of my prior claim, and at that point he relaced 3 more tires (the 2 with metal showing + other one then in use. We had no injury, I got no hassle from firestone. Only recently was I aware of extent of firestone tire problems. The point of my report is to alert you that sixteen " tires, (we had p235/70rx16sl tires) are also a problem. I recetly reported this to Ford motors. Reply from them was general in nature, but they told me to be sure tires are properly inflated. I maintain these tires as I have other in the 50 years I have owned vehicles and never before have I experienced a tire delaimnation as we did with these firestone wilderness tires. A concern we now have is the tires were replaced with other wlderness "ht" tires. Ee. ( dot number: ).

All 4 tires were found separated the next day after a trip from mesa az to austin TX. In June. ( dot number: w208lpt806 tire size: p23570r16 ).

Firestone wilderness at tires p235/70r16 caused the vehicle to vibrate while driving, after the tires were replaced the vehicle expereinced no further vibration, consumer request reimbursement. Nlm.

The crack is growing daily and will eventually damage the door so that it cannot be opened in am emergency.

Right front and right rear firestone wilderness ht (p235/70r16) tires failed. Nlm.

Left front tire fell off while driving under 5 mph when making a turn, and an accident occurred. Dealer is not aware of the problem.

While these are 16" tires and h/t's they failed much like the stories about the tires on the Ford explorer. We were traveling at 75 mph or more when the lf front tire thread suddenly ripped off and then the tire failed completely. The road was straight, traffic light so we made it to the side safely. The firestone dealer told me that it had to be a road hazard. And that there was no way it could have been the fault of the tire. I had to shell out for the replacement tire and he sold me road hazard insurance on all of them tires. I bet there are alot of other folks like me who trusted their dealer and did not file any complaints!! Ford explorers( dot number: ? tire size: p235/70r16 ).

While driving the truck at 68 mph, the right front tire on the passenger's side separated from the axle. Driver lost control of the truck and crashed into the side of a tracker trailer. The dealer/manufacturer have been notified about the prolbem. The truck has not been repaired.

While driving the right front tire came off, cause unknown. Please provide any details.

Consumer replaced original firestone tires due to splitting, consumer requesting reimbursement.

All 4 oem tires were replaced at firestone dealer suggestion within 15-18k miles. Visual cracks in tread body and 1 premature midbody road failure with no observable road hazard. Within the next 15-18k the next set of 4 replacement ht's were replaced. Now with approx. 35k on the third set of ht's an independent shop (non-firestone) has diagnosised a significant pull to the right as "tire pull" indicating possible cord to body slippage. All failures and replacements have been in west texas with high ambient temperatures. ( dot number: tire size: p235/70r16 ).

Wrong type of tires installed on vehicle, causing vehicle to shift from side to side.
