Transmission Failure problems of the 1997 Ford F-150

Eight problems related to transmission failure have been reported for the 1997 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2004

Automatic transmission failure of overdrive. Overdrive will go out all at once, loosing speed and becoming a hazard in middle of road.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2004

Recall 97v147000,transmission failed to shift out of park after vehicle was started. This was due to ta defect in the transmission shift cable. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

Transmission failed to shift into reverse after vehicle was serviced. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2000

Consumer noticed a 1/2 inch crack on the outside door of the driver & passenger side. Metal was shearing. Delear said that it was out of warranty & they had to have permission from Ford. Also the transmission failed.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/03/1997

Automatic transmission failed.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/07/1996

Transmission valve failed.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Transmission is failing.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Total transmission failure while in operation, vehicle left inoperative. Dealer notified, and informed that repairs would be at consumer's cost.
