Seven problems related to wheel have been reported for the 1999 Ford F-150. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
At the time this happen the wife and I were on the way back from another town went to eat out of our town we lived in, on a main highway I heard something that sounded like we were hit from behind, but when I looked in my rear-view mirror I could not believe what I was seeing, thank the good lord above no-one was behind us, all I saw at first were sparks flying from my spare tire and then the tire slide on it's side onto the shoulder of the highway, I picked up the metal pieces and other parts I could find and placed my tire and the metal parts in the bed of my truck, we have always checked for the tire underneath the back of my 1999 Ford f- 150 XLT when we get our tires rotated or balanced or changed, when we change the motor oil too. If a car had been behind us that tire could have killed someone, I believe you need the dealers to place another safety bar to keep the tire from coming loose again. Now I tell anyone I see that has a truck with the spare underneath to have it checked out, before someone gets hurt or killed by a spare tire coming off. If you need the VIN I have to get it off my insurance policy, I've had this truck still running, big v-8 engine over 226,000 still going same engine.
Upon returning home from work on 9/15/14, a hitch wire was noticed dragging on the ground. When I crawled under the truck to tuck it back under, I noticed the spare tire was gone and the cable that once held it in place via a retaining bracket had snapped and was frayed. The tire and bracket holding the tire were both gone. I had no knowledge of the loss until that point and am horrified at the thought of the accident or injury it could have/ may have caused, breaking free somewhere on the road while driving.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the front driver side rim fractured due to rust. The contact stated he tried to clean the rims, as the salt from the roads caused the rust. Later the contact noticed that the rear driver side tire was also completely rusted. The contact replaced all of the rims and tires on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 168,000 and the current mileage was 170,000.
1999 Ford f150 left rear wheel became detached from the vehicle and crossed the median and struck another vehicle. According to the police report, the left rear wheel lug nut broke off. Ohio traffic crash report # 10285367.
I was driving through a residential neighborhood at approximately 25-30 mph when the right front wheel came off of my 1999 F-150, causing me to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a vehicale parked on the side of the street. The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle I struck and severe damage to my truck and causing physical and emotional injury to myself.
My husband, joe, was involved in an accident on 12/18/00. According to my husband everything happened so quickly but he claims the wheel (driver side) came off prior to hitting the other vehicle. The other vehicle sustained minimal damage. The wheel came off. The wheel came off at the shaft. Nothing appears broken and the threads are not damaged (shaft). The wheel is still inflated, lug nuts and brake assembly still attached.
I collided with a smaller vehicle(Chevrolet beretta) at a low speed. My wheel fell off and I ran over it. The reporting police officer shared my disbelief that this occurred with minimal damage from the collision to the other vehicle. I think that the wheel may have broken loose just prior to the actual collision.
