15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2015

All I know is I was at a neighbors for around 1 1/2 hours and we hear a loud boom. We ran out side and my truck hood was on fire, it burned everything visible on top of the motor and toward the driver firewall . It busted the driver side tire and completely burned everything visible under the hood. The dash components as far as the eye can see are not bad, unknown of internal damage. I'm not sure what caused the problem. I did go to the recall site to see if there may have been something I did find this control switch for speed recall and not sure if it applies to mine. Even though it brought it up when I entered my VIN #. I did receive a recall on the gas tank straps but did not replace them they were in great shape. But I did not receive on on this. I do have pictures if you need them. Thanks.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

Woke up this morning to a couple of loud "booms". My husband went to check it out and discovered his truck (which we just purchased in may) was on fire. The fire destroyed the truck, melted the siding on our house and garage, and even cracked three of our neighbor's windows. We are so grateful the firefighters arrived when they did or this fire would've kept burning our house. The truck hadn't moved since last night. . . Don't know what happened but we will not be purchasing a Ford again.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

Turned into a grocery store parking lot and truck started to smoke. I thought it was over heating but when I parked I got out and the truck started having black smoke then flames came from the driver side of the hood over the tire. I called 911. When the fire trucks arrived the hood was in flames and the front of the truck was burned. I am the original owner of the truck and have took very good care of it. Someone that works with my son had an f150 that burned 6 months ago. After we looked up the information about this I found out this has happened alot. I also found a recall on a part for the cruise control but I was never informed of this. How are people informed of recalls? I lived a the same address for 7 years and had the same phone number. The dealer I bought the truck from palmetto Ford in charleston SC has been around for a long time. I don't understand why I was not informed. If I had not got out I would have burned with the truck. Is it the owner responsibility to check for recalls. I would understand if I was not the original owner but I am.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2012

The truck started on fire while sitting in the driveway hours after being parked. By the time we realized it was on fire, it was totally out of control and the truck well beyond saving. It burned so hot it melted the tires, the siding of the house and destroyed part of a privacy fence. We kept water on the fire until it went out about an hour and a half later. The fire started under the hood and the whole front of the truck is almost unrecognizable. The owner ( [xxx] ) is an auto mechanic and has been for forty plus years. We run an auto repair business. We had heard vague things about Fords and fires but did not look into it until after the incident. We purchased the truck this winter and never got any recall notices for the cruise control switch problem. The prior owner says he did not either. We have not yet contacted Ford because of reading all the horror stories of how they refuse responsibility. We had liability insurance only. The anger is letting up a bit and the shock has worn off and now we are figuring out the next step. Reporting the incident to you seems to be it. I will contact Ford on Monday. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

I was getting on the interstate this am and heard a noise, the truck lost power and started running extremely rough. I turned around and barely made it home (only a few miles). When I raised the hood, a spark plug was laying on top of the engine. The coil pack was also broken when the spark plug blew out. There was a very strong smell of gas. I researched the internet and found that this is a major problem with Ford engines built from 1997 - 2003. If I had been in a center or left lane, being rush hour traffic, this could have caused a major wreck. This problem should not be ignored and should become a recall for Ford.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2011

Spark plug blow out caused excessive damage to engine. Engine had to be replaced at a cost of $6200. 00. This is a known problem for 1999 to 2005 engines.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2011

I was driving to work and heard a loud pop and stopped the truck and called the tow truck. The mechanic informed me that a spark plug blew out of the head of the engine and it was going to cost $550. 00 to fix, he also said that it would be a temporary fix and that I would need a new engine because of the damage. I did some research and found that this has been a problem for some time with these engines because of the aluminum heads and there were only 3-4 threads actually holding the spark plug. A Ford motor CO. Warranty inspector says the Ford triton v-8 engines are "dropping like flies" because of blown spark plugs. I would like to address the Ford spark plug blowout issue. Ford triton engines from 1997 to 2003 had a problem where spark plugs would randomly fly out the cylinder head. This appears to be due to a few issues (engineering design flaw), first there are insufficient threads (3-4) in the head to properly hold the spark plug. Second the threads in the head are not inserted, in other words the threads are in the aluminum and are not very strong. Spark plug ejection is dangerous because fuel vapor starts coming out the spark plug hole, which is clearly a serious safety issue. The fuel vapor can be ignited by the loose spark plug - and in fact there have been a small number of cases reported of engine fires due to spark plug ejection/blowout. Ford needs to be held responsible for the repairs of spark plug blow out and should extend the warranty regardless of age on the spark plug blow out issue, they also should be forced to pay a fair amount of labor time, because most of the repairs cost thousands of dollars. Ford has been aware of this serious issue of an engineering-design flaw and needs to recall 17 million vehicles from 1997-2003.
