F150 stalls out randomly causing a hazard for other drivers and myself. Happens while in gear driving, reverse, etc.
Cam phazer is out leaning out the timing, causing the motor to knock and idle at 500 rpms causing the vehicle to completely stop in traffic or at a stop light. I am told at minimum a timing chain kit, phaser, might fix the problem if not I would need a new engine at 5000. 00 dollars this needs to be a recall fix my truck only has 116454. Miles on it and should not need this kink of repairs yet. Or should be covered by Ford through a malfunction of equipment that was installed and there for malfunctioned prematurely.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning and was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The dealer diagnosed that the air conditioning compressor and plenum kit needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
Most recently,(not including rear end replaced, reverse band on trans replaced, blown spark plug out of engine block) my truck has started to stall out for no reason that I can fathom,1st time was at 65 mph on a major highway, now more recently at lower speeds, coming to a stop at stop signs lights ect , turning street corners at lower speeds, or coming to a stop in my driveway. I see many complaints of this same problem in forums with no cause or repair that seems to be a root cause. Please help !.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle stalled without any warnings. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the left and lower cam sensors needed to be replaced. The failure recurred. The dealer stated that the vehicle could not be repaired since the failure was a manufacturer defect and suggested that the failure might be a direct result of a defective engine. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who filed a report and did not offer any additional assistance. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 129,000.
Spark plugs failing. Ford say they should be changed even though they are rated for 100,000 miles. Cost starts at $300 and can go up to thousands of dollars. The fault is that Ford installed spark plugs that can gaul or react with the al block. This means the plugs might break on removal leaving park of the spark plug in the block. The block would then need to be drilled out to remove the remaining part of the spark plug. It is also a known fact that some of the spark plugs are blowing out of the block on their own.
I purchased this vehicle used from my brother in law when it was 2 or 3 years old. All maintenance has been done timely. The 5. 4 triton engine started running very rough. I immediately went to my mechanics shop. It was late so he gave me a ride home. On the following Monday he called to say that he ran a scope and found that the piston was gone and it would not be cost effective to repair. He looked at buying a used engine from reputable dealers who specialize in used engines only to be told that they won't buy that particular engine because their defective and they've yet to see a good one. I've been waiting in the hopes of buying a used wreck with low mileage. A rebuilt engine runs $5,905. 00 installed with a 3 year 100k warranty. In my conversation with jasper the woman immediately told me that this engine was rebuilt with the upgrades to the weak timing chain problem that Ford had designed into the engine. I called Ford and of course this was the first they had ever heard of such a problem. My mechanic says that year truck and engine are "dropping like flies". He had one in is lot already and saw an add in the local paper of an 04 F-150 for sale with blown motor. He thought it was me but someone else has the same truck and problem. I don't know if this is the right place to discuss this issue but I was wondering if you have heard of anyone else with this problem? if so, how many and what does it take to force a company to remedy a problems they created? my maintenance of my vehicles is second to none. The 97 chevy truck I'm currently driving was purchased new buy me in may of 97. I just turned 358k miles yesterday and it's the same engine with no major repairs. I've never gotten less than 250k out of a vehicle because of my maintenance.
Engine started to idle rough and loose acceleration while driving up hill. Stalled a couple times while stopped and idling. The engine would lag while accelerating from a stop. I took the truck to a local Ford dealer and for the first 3 times, they couldn't find a problem. Upon the fourth time at the dealer, they said it was the cam phaser and that the engine needs replaced, at 72,000 miles. When asked about this being Ford's problem, they stated that "it hasn't affected 1 million vehicles, so no, not their problem". This was a very critical safety issue, as I would loose accelerating power while driving.
I have a 2004 Ford f150 that dies, stalls, or surges at stop light or at low speed. It is an intermittent problem that doesn't send any error codes to the computer. The pickup will just die during while turning or stopping. I have been to the dealer and the problem is still not corrected. I have had numerous close calls due to dying during turning.
2004 Ford f150 with 4. 6 engine. 140,616 miles. #2 spark plug blew out of head. Had to have heli-coil insert installed.
Own 2004 f150 while taking off from stop in traffic herd load pop and power loss. Blew out number #3 spark plug. Took to dealership for repair they told me they see this alot installed insert for repair 534. 00 told me not to use truck for towing anything anymore. Called Ford about problem was told that this was a service problem. Found over 1000 complaints on line for same thing someone is going to get killed if this is not resolved a loss of power like this or fire from fuel blowing out of the cylinder and NHTSA calling this not a safety problem. Someone needs to wake up!.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. The contact stated that the sparks plugs split into three pieces when removing them from the engine block. He took his vehicle to a repair shop and the spark plugs split into pieces when the mechanic attempted to install new spark plugs. Ford's TSB number 08-7-6 was referenced. The contact will call the Ford manufacturer regarding this issue. The failure mileage was 85,000. 4/01/09 updated 04/07/09.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. The contact took the vehicle in for a routine tune-up in 2007. A few months later, he had to replace the motor. On March 9, 2008, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. He took the vehicle to a repair shop and the diagnostic indicated that the timing chain slipped and caused the metal clips to fail. The manufacturer stated that because a Ford dealer did not replace the motor, they would not assist with the repairs. The vehicle was repaired at the cost of $1,893 at an independent repair shop. The failure mileage was 94,000 and current mileage was 95,000. Updated 0424/09. Updated 04/27/09.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. When driving 35 mph the vehicle stalled and was driving hard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the spark plugs were replaced. The dealer stated that the spark plug in cylinder five was broken in half. The current mileage was 53504 and the failure mileage 53500. The engine size, and power-train were unknown. The consumer stated that he didn't understand how this defect could happen. He contacted the dealer about repairs but was informed by the dealer not perform the repairs himself because he would not be able to do it. The consumer stated while trying to perform the repairs on the truck spark plug #5 was broken and the more he tried to fix the truck the more trouble he had. The consumer stated he had to take the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired and that a price was agreed upon. The consumer stated that his confidence had been shaken with Ford and an investigation should be done. The consumer provided the repair invoice. Updated 07/23/07.
2004 Ford F-150 fx4 stalls while driving; it is as if the gas pedal no longer works. Had vehicle towed to dealership. They have had the vehicle for four days and state that they cannot find anything wrong with it. They state that the computer shows that it was run on "lean fuel", however it had a full tank of gas. Runs okay during test driving by dealership. However, stalling presents a safety concern. 8jb.
Dt: the consumer bought a used 2004 Ford f150 and has been experiencing a problem with the engine dying when applying brake pressure. This occurs in high traffic areas and at slower speeds in stop and go traffic. Took to a dealer and they performed eec diagnostic quick test and pinpoint test diagnostic ignition tests as well. As a result of those tests they replaced a mass airflow sensor assembly and reprogrammed the pcm. Has been to dealer on 4 occasions for this problem and dealer claims they can not find anything wrong with it. Contacted Ford manufacturer they had "joystick"or test stick installed in vehicle for 5 days in which consumer was unable to duplicate the problem at that time. This has happened 1 time since. Also on the dash there is a 4x4 high/lo light that illuminates on the dash when this occurs but the vehicle does not have 4 wheel drive. Dealer said they were unable to reset the pcm to correct this particular problem. This is still a problem, no recent repairs. Dealer can not duplicate the problem at this time.
I purchased a new 2004 F-150 VIN 1ftpw12524kd42894 in Aug 2004. The safety issue I have is that we began having a problem with the vehicle stalling while it was being driven and for some reason when the vehicle was turning left. It was not a constant thing when we were drivng the truck. However after a few occassions over a couple months we took it to the dealer. We took in on Feb. 1 2005. The vehicle had 2600 miles on it at this time. The dealer concurred with the problem and the dealer contacted Ford motor company for assistance on how to correct the problem. The dealer did as they were instructed by Ford and did checks and inspections of several systems. They thought they had it resolved. But a month to six weeks later it began stalling again. Only a couple of times at low speed. Then some time pasted it did it again then a week later it shuttered while entering traffic. Then 3 days later it stalled in the middle of a three lane expressway blocking traffic for more than an hour. In the past everytime it stalled it would restart. This time it would not crank over but it had a hot battery. It was towed to the dealer they diagnosed it as a bad mircoprocessor I believe. This was replaced ,it did not cure the problem. The current milage on the vehicle is 4700 miles. My safety concern is that as many times as this vehicle has stalled I have not been hit by another vehicle. But my luck may run out. Have others had simular problems, have there been recalls in this problem or service bullents. I emailed Ford and it was confirmed that they recieved my email but they did not respond for the second time. The dealer is very understanding buy if Ford has data that will help they need to convey it to the dealer. I need a resolution and an assurance that the problem is solved. Its no different from driving a vehicle that the steering may break at any time. When it stalls I loses power brakes and power steering plus the danger of approaching traffic.
2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck stalls when slowing to a stop. The truck has done this over 20 times in the last 4 months.
Vehicle experienced sudden stalling at low speeds. Taken to the dealer for check up.
While driving 40 mph vehicle stalled intermittently. Consumer managed to restart the vehicle. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Truck continues to stall/engine dies when driving. Usually stops when slowing down or starting from a stop. Commonly dies at intersections/stop sings etc. Has stoped on highway when slowing down making it very difficult to control.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford f150. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, the vehicle would stall. The failure also occurred when turning the vehicle at less than 5 mph. The rpms would drop to zero before the vehicle stalled and jerked as if it were attempting to proceed forward. The dealer could not duplicate the failures. The contact discovered that by placing a higher grade of fuel into the vehicle, the failures would temporarily cease for a few months. The failure mileage was 17,000 and current mileage was 103,000.
