36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2008

I own a 2004 Ford F-150 4 door. I have had to replace all four power window regulators. Two were still under warranty and the other two came out of my pocket. The dealership is aware of the problem but nothing has been done to help the customer. Also, the transmission has a kicking problem at certain speeds.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

I'm driving my truck when all of a sudden it will start vibrating horribly, like driving over a washboard type of road. The only way to get it to stop is to pull over to the side of the highway, put it in park, wait, and then try to resume driving. But this does not always work. You sometimes have to stop and change to park, or reverse, a couple of times, before driving again so that the vibration goes away. I have complained about this before, and I see hundreds of complaints for the same issue on "Ford owner websites", and everybody is pissed. Nobody can get an answer from Ford service as to what is wrong. Many people have replaced many different things (I. E. Transmission, clutch pads, bearings, u-joints, emergency brake cable or pads), all to no avail. They have wasted their time and money, and Ford refuses to live up to this awful and very dangerous problem. Apparently, Ford knows this is a big problem with 2004 F-150 trucks, especially, but will not acknowledge it. Someone wrote on the web that Ford knows they had a retooling problem with these trucks, and let the trucks go out for sale anyway. I am now having this problem more often, and I am afraid to drive it. I do not have any money to fix my truck, since our economy is so bad and have been unemployed for years. Make Ford take ownership of this recall problem!.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2008

Severe shuddering from rear end during low speed turns.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2008

Bought a used vehicle 2004 Ford f150 has a shudder/vibration in the rear axle. Took it to a Ford dealer for service. It is a known problem and they will fix it to "lessen the concern," not completely get rid of it. My aftermarket warranty will cover it after deductible and taxes. But I don't like the sound of lessen the concern. And it seems to be a recurring problem with this vehicle.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2006

: the contact stated while in the idle position for 30 or more seconds, the vehicle drifted into reverse when the consumer began to accelerate from idle position. There were no warnings prior to the incident. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer who determined that the vehicle was performing normally. However, the central computer needed to be reset. The manufacturer was notified. Updated 12/12/2006 -.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

(summer, 2007, 28k) at highway speed (60 mph) huge grinding noise and vibration, light in dash came on by itself showing, "4x4" turned on, slowed to 20 mph, huge clunk as 4 wheel drive system engaged without drivers requesting it to engage. Ford roadside assistance was contacted and Ford towed vehicle to Ford dealer, Ford dealer "reprogramed" something, said it had moisture in a sensor, causing the 4x4 to try to engage. (September 12, 2011, 69,980 miles) at highway speed, (58 mph) during mild acceleration, 1500 - 1800 rpm, a mild grinding sound from under front end, by taking foot off gas peddle then reapplying gas the grinding sound stops. Contacted Ford dealer, they said drive it in, contacted Ford customer satisfaction department, they said to have dealer check it out, Ford dealer investigated and said there is a problem with volume of vaccume that is necessary to prevent the 4x4 system from engaging while driving on the highway at highway speeds. Ford dealer indicated that it maybe unsafe to drive like this and that this is normal for the vaccume system to fail like this, representative at Ford customer satisfaction department said that their dealer knows how to diagnose and cure problems best, and since the vehicle has more than 36k it is not a concern to Ford. My concern is that steel gears that are suggested to be engaged at a walking pace on soft pavement are automatically forcing themselves to lock together on dry pavement at 60 mph, and Ford and the Ford dealer show little concern for this condition since the vehicle has more than 36k and since no extended warranty purchased from the dealership.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2004

The vehicle was parked when it began to roll across a parking lot. The driver managed to unlock the door, jump into the vehicle and put the brake on before it rolled onto a main street. Vehicle was only 20 days old and would not restart. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership only to find from the service manager that the clip to bracket from the factory was missing. When the consumer called in to complain she was told by a sales representative that it's not their fault they did not build the truck. No loaner cars available. The consumers name was not put into the system for roadside assistance.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2004

There is a vibration from rear can be felt through out truck seat ,/steering wheel /bed shakes when driven at highway speeds40-65.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2004

Vehicle has a shimmy (vibration) at or above 45 mph, increases when loaded and feels unsafe to drive.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2004

When using passing gear at 45-65 mph you get a very strong vibration until you go into overdrive. When you use the od shut off button at 65 - 50 mph you get the same vibration. (1) Ford sent letter in janurary from 1st complaint in oct 04 saying it was the tires and would only warranty them for 3 year not replace them now. (2) may both front steel rims. Now at this point vibration is only between 50 - 65. (3) truck was in shop from 31 may to 10 Jun 05. Replaced (a insulator asy - engine support), (drive shat assemby -rear) removed and installed. (insulator - powertrain rear support) replaced. I do not have old parts, dealer kept them. Vibration is still there. The mechanic told me that this problem is only in 373 rear ends. My brother in TX (san angelo, was helping me, his best friend is the service mgr at the Ford dealer there and they have the same problem). A friend told me her father in al has the same problem and Ford can not fix it. My service mgr bryan and I drove a 2005 identicile to my truck and the vibration was worse then mine. My concern is what in the lon term will it have on us who will be towing campers and going up and down mountaing and using the lower gear for power and braking. What will that vibration do to the drive train? who lives will be put in at risk because of this. Thank you for your help.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2004

I purchased the truck less than 30 days ago. Vibration in the drive train started within the first 1000 miles. Dealer says that the vibration is "normal" operation for the vehicle. Vibration could represent a safety issue if not corrected.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2004

Have a 2004 fx4 supercrew 4x4. Have two problems. First, the speedo reads 4 to 5 mph fast, have had in shop twice still no fix, was told that was the best they could do. Second, when taking off from dead stop rear end makes 2 slipping clunks, was told from dealer it is the leaf springs so they greased them. Problem went away for a day maybe and is back louder then ever. Only 5000 miles on truck. Wish Ford would step up to the plate and take care of some of these "known" problems.
